Satisfied from his empathic reading that Quagmire wasn't being nefarious, just greedy, Junbaari didn't interject. Still, when Kokuten produced a wand, he was momentarily distracted. It wasn't the wand that had his interest, however, but rather the means by which it had been deployed. "You're going to have to show me how you managed to do that," he said with genuine interest coloring his voice as Quagmire examined the offering. To Davin he added, "you might need to be a little firm with him, he seems the sort to try and get as much out of us as possible if we let him."

Spell Combat: This functions much like two-weapon fighting, but the off-hand weapon is a spell that is being cast. As a full-round action, he can make all of his attacks with his melee weapon at a –2 penalty and can also cast any spell from the magus spell list with a casting time of 1 standard action (any attack roll made as part of this spell also takes this penalty). If he casts this spell defensively, he can decide to take an additional penalty on his attack rolls, up to his Intelligence bonus, and add the same amount as a circumstance bonus on his concentration check. If the check fails, the spell is wasted, but the attacks still take the penalty. A magus can choose to cast the spell first or make the weapon attacks first, but if he has more than one attack, he cannot cast the spell between weapon attacks.

Instead of the free melee touch attack normally allowed to deliver the spell, a magus can make one free melee attack with his weapon (at his highest base attack bonus) as part of casting this spell. If successful, this melee attack deals its normal damage as well as the effects of the spell. If the magus makes this attack in concert with spell combat, this melee attack takes all the penalties accrued by spell combat melee attacks. This attack uses the weapon’s critical range (20, 19–20, or 18–20 and modified by the keen weapon property or similar effects), but the spell effect only deals ×2 damage on a successful critical hit, while the weapon damage uses its own critical modifier.

The swordsman turned to Junbaari and nodded, a slightly brighter expression on his face. "I will gladly discuss this. This item is one of my new favorite things. It has been quite excellent to minimize unnecessary movements in combat." He listened attentively to Davin's negotiation, interested in how this would end up. The wand cost a decent amount of money, but it was a cheap price even if he didnt get it back - to ensure the security of the gate.

The mephit crawled around the room a bit more looking around before looking back at Davin. It tilted its head.

<Contract then....>

It snapped out its hand and claws were visible. It lifted its other arm out straight and ran a sharp claw down it along the length from the wrist to partway down the forearm. A black ichor like ooze seeped from the mephit's fresh cut.

"Just protecting both of us Quagmire. You've been a pleasure to deal with and speak to." he grimaced. Blood oaths. He took his dagger and pricked his finger, wincing at the pain. A small globe of red liquid seeped out.

"Agreed" he said extending his hand to seal the deal.

The black ichor like blood of the mephit and Devin's red crimson mixed and twisted. The blood contract sealed and for an instant, the black blood trailed up around Devin's wrist and flashed like a manacle. The same with the red around Quagmire's. Then they both faded.

Kokuten knelt down and extended the wand over to the mephit. "Take good care of it, please." He said, knowing it wouldnt understand, then nodded and straightened, walking over to rejoin the others. "There's only one thing I didnt understand from what you translated, Davin. The mephit's name is Quagmire, and he knows what a Gateway is, and that its here. What is 'Tohaa'?"
