Pact Magic

Otherworldly Patron (Genie)

Eldritch InvocationAgonizing Blast
When you cast eldritch blast, add your Charisma modifier to the damage it deals on a hit...

Genie's VesselBottled Respite. As an action, you can magically vanish and enter your vessel, which remains in the space you left. The interior of the vessel is an extradimensional space in the shape of a 20-foot-radius cylinder, 20 feet high, and resembles your vessel. The interior is appointed with cushions and low tables and is a comfortable temperature. While inside, you can hear the area around your vessel as if you were in its space. You can remain inside the vessel up to a number of hours equal to twice your proficiency bonus. You exit the vessel early if you use a bonus action to leave, if you die, or if the vessel is destroyed. When you exit the vessel, you appear in the unoccupied space closest to it. Any objects left in the vessel remain there until carried out, and if the vessel is destroyed, every object stored there harmlessly appears in the unoccupied spaces closest to the vessel's former space. Once you enter the vessel, you can't enter again until you finish a long rest.
Genie's Wrath. Once during each of your turns when you hit with an attack roll, you can deal extra damage to the target equal to your proficiency bonus. The type of this damage is determined by your patron: bludgeoning (dao), thunder (djinni), fire (efreeti), or cold (marid).
The vessel's AC equals your spell save DC. Its hit points equal your warlock level plus your proficiency bonus, and it is immune to poison and psychic damage.
If the vessel is destroyed or you lose it, you can perform a 1-hour ceremony to receive a replacement from your patron. This ceremony can be performed during a short or long rest, and the previous vessel is destroyed if it still exists. The vessel vanishes in a flare of elemental power when you die.

Background

Far Traveler

Personality: I begin or end my day with small traditional rituals that are unfamiliar to those around me.

Ideals: As someone new to these strange lands, I am cautious and respectful in my dealings.
Bonds: So long as I have this token from my homeland, I can face any adversity in this strange land.

Flaw: I have a weakness for the new intoxicants and other pleasures of this land.

All Eyes on You

Hakim's accent, mannerisms, figures of speech, and perhaps even his an appearance all mark him as foreign. Curious glances are directed his way wherever he goes, which can be a nuisance, but he also gains the friendly interest of scholars and others intrigued by far-off lands, to say nothing of everyday folk who are eager to hear stories of his homeland. He can parley this attention into access to people and places he might not otherwise have, for him and his traveling companions. Noble lords, scholars, and merchant princes, to name a few, might be interested in hearing about his distant homeland and people.

Hakim's attire and mannerisms mark him from Calimport. He is always stoic and unfazed no matter the situation. His calm face often looks like he is musing a thought but occasionally a deep melancholy betrays his usually pristine face.

He is kind hearted and others feel at ease around him. He has an uncanny ability to see other's strengths and will build on those strengths when that person is in need. Even as a foreigner other's find themselves drawn to him and he has made many friends on his long journey. He can be too self sacrificing at times and his gregarious nature has greatly lightened his coin pouch on his journey from Calimport. Throughout his life Hakim has been very people focused and this has led to him struggling with his own identity. This is one of the reasons he volunteered to take this quest as a means of self discovery.

Character Backstory

spacer.png

  • Once as a youth Hakim snuck into a Pasha's palace to steal food. He was a street urchin and an empty belly led him to thievery. He snuck through a basement window and instead of finding food he discovered a vault of artifacts. One of the treasures turned out to be a genie's vessel. Being only a boy his three wishes were quite simple; delicious food to share with the other hungry kids, new toys and for others to like him so he could make friends.
  • When the Pasha discovered the thief he was at first furious but upon learning that the boy had wasted his three wishes on truly innocent things his heart softened and he immediately became fond of the boy. His intuition told him that the genie had also taken interest in the boy. Whatever that meant he was not sure. The Pasha later adopted Hakim into his House.
  • Hakim studied then later became an instructor of physical and mental meditations. He learned to express his emotions through music and dance.
  • Hakim grew up alongside the Pasha's youngest daughter, Dalia. Their childhood friendship blossomed into a hidden romance as Dalia was intended to married a wealthy lord but that couldn't keep the two apart. They were inseparable. Hakim would always love Dalia even if those words never left his lips. Even if his lowly birth meant that he could never have her.
  • Tragically Dalia was murdered one night. She got caught in a fight between a wizard in red and the Pasha's guards when the wizard raided the Pasha's artifacts. Everyone was devastated because Dalia was such a beloved person but none more than Hakim.
  • Hakim pleaded with the Pasha to allow him to leave the palace to retrieve the Pasha's items and to get justice for Dalia. The Pasha being a wise man knew of the love between Hakim and Dalia so he let Hakim go despite thinking he was sending the man to his doom.
  • Hakim keeps a lock of Dalia's hair with him to remember her and hopes to have her resurrected one day even though he knows this is likely futile. This hope is a manifestation of his inability to let Dalia go.

Hakim in the Present

Hakim has been part of the trade caravan going to Greenest for two reasons. The first is to make some coin and the second is his main reason for leaving Calimport. He searches for the wizard in red that killed Dalia. Luckily for him there aren't too many individuals that fit that description so his journey has not been terribly difficult. Unknown to him is that the wizard in red is in fact a Red Wizard of Thay and part of a deeper plot.
