Setting and Lore

Recommended Posts

Setting: The setting is the Multiverse with a capital M. There are many clusters of planes termed as 'multiverses' by their inhabitants, but this is nothing more than a byproduct of limited perspective and scholarly misunderstanding; in truth, even the greatest of these self-contained planar regions are little more than cogs in the greater cosmic machine.

Hub City/Base of Operations: The party's 'base of operations' in between contracts is the Realmwarden's guidhall within the grand extraplanar metropolis known as the Nexus. The Nexus itself is a city of staggering size and could easily engulf many Prime Material Plane worlds with its sheer scope. Its countless avenues are occupied with buildings of design both familiar and alien, while the streets teem with beings of drastically different races, creeds, and planes of origin. An expansive marketplace known as the Sidereal Bazaar at the very edge of the city, where the plane itself begins to dissolve away into a starry astral sea, contains goods from all across the multiverse and nearly anything can be bought or sold within its confines.

Gatewalkers: There are rare individuals throughout the Multiverse that come to possess a spark that resonates with the energies of the planes and allows them to both create temporary gates between worlds and communicate with nearly any being in the multiverse. These individuals are called Gatewalkers and little is certain about how they come about their powers; some are born with it, while others seem to develop them later in life.

The Realmwardens: The Realmwardens is a planar organization of some renown that takes on contracts from a variety of clients across the Multiverse. Clients from across the planes are invited to visit the organization's palatial guildhall within the Nexus and speak directly with a guild agent who will initiate the process of drafting up a formal contract. Higher-ups within the Realmwardens also post requests of their own that deal with matters of planar security and, while rare, offer substantially higher rewards and prestige than those posted by individual clients. The guild has an inordinately high number of Gatewalkers in its employ and goes out of it's way in order to recruit such individuals.
