As a house rule, spell-casting characters using defensive spells like Shield or Mirror Image do not have their spells ruined if they are attacked on their initiative number, as described in the core rule book. This is because spellcasters train to use their spells in battle and trust the power of their magic.

However, if the caster actually takes damage, the spell is lost, per the normal rule. This house rule only applies to unsuccessful attacks.
