That's a mere blink of an for a long lived race, but a job for life? Now you're talking. Unfortunately what this also means is that even when you're a graduate from the prestigious Elysium Academy of Culinary Excellence it is very hard to find a job, they're all taken and the people that have them aren't going to be going anywhere any time soon. Which is why Vesper found himself striking out from his elvish homeland to the kingdom of Entree where he had managed to wrangle himself a position in the household of who he had been lead to believe was a prestigious lord. By the time he got there said lord was no longer in residence, off to fight the Demon King, but as long as he had a job Vesper wasn't particularly worried, there'd be plenty of time for him to get to know his new employer. Then Haxenspargilis showed up and it certainly wouldn't do to have his Lord's manor destroyed by a dragon while he was away...
