Description

No Weapons Allowed In This Tavern - Except Kaz's Butterknife.

Kazrir, no family name, is a Half-Orc who is usually a head taller then most everyone else in the room except maybe other Half-Orcs. Even then he still usually has a couple inches at least. It's almost not fair then that he's got the height and muscle that suggests a dumb brute but he's actually not. He's no genius, sure - but he is definitely a creature of the city and can blend in when he has too. Kaz has never had much along the lines of money but he's been able to make do in many ways. Most famously, his "Butterknife" - an Orcish Falchion that looks like just a large chunk of iron where one side has been hammered into something like a sharp edge.

Personality

I'm a simple guy really. I just want a good drink, good food, good friends, and for the little guy to win once in a while, ey?

Kaz looks like he's about to crack open your skull and eat whatever he finds on the inside. Probably not, actually. Used to a degree of self-sufficiency, his neighborhood doubled down on some community building and became a sort of proto-anarchist collective while Kaz was someone who could be counted on to help keep the peace. More likely to consider thieves and prostitutes family then law officers and nobles, Kaz enjoys the simple pleasures and the little things. Secretly appreciates art and worships Shelyn. Granted, usually his "faith" comes in the form of cracking skulls in the name of Love - but it arguably counts. He's not a deep zeolet or fanatic or anything, he just kind of wishes it won more often then it did.

Bio

Alright, I've heard enough. Let's go break something. Ya know, for Justice or something.

Kaz makes more sense when you realize that he's a "City Orc". As in he wasn't raised among the clans and tribes, but among the slums of Pitax i instead. His neighborhood did have a heavy presense of Goblinoid people's like Orcs, but his "tribe" had more in common with a pirate crew then a traditional orc tribe despite possible claims otherwise. Born and raised in a Slum neighborhood where the residents often were left on their own, his own neighborhood banded together to survive and surprisingly it became something kind of nice.

The neighborhood's own watch wasn't strong or anything like that, but a relatively peaceful neighborhood that felt like home. Kaz was an orphan but ended up apprenticing among older orcs and bondsman, leading to his current profession as a Bounty Hunter. Kaz wildly became something of a peacekeeper in his neighborhood, if not one who used anything like the Law. Sometimes who paid for the bounty was whoever passed for the Law in Pitax, but sometimes it was just a rich client who needed someone found and that was okay with Kazrir.

As his reputation as a Bounty Hunter grew, so did his client list. Secretly he loved one of their daughters but she was betrothed and he was wise enough to just keep his distance when it was clear that she wasn't going anywhere. He took jobs that took him further and further out of the city as a result, and the Temple of Shelyn did get more visits. Even some relatively cheap jobs for them if you believe it.

Hearing of a deeper call to adventure, Kazrir really just intends to make some quick gold off of any "adventurers" with criminal histories but funny how Fate and the Gods can have other plans.

Calling In A Favor

Love should Always Win, Sure. Absolutely. Art, Poetry, Music, Romantic Love, Family Love - yeah, all of that. Love Should Always Win, Absolutely.

But here's the thing. If you ask the Clergy of Shelyn about it they'd tell you that usually all they need to do is give a pretty speech that appeals to the listener's better nature, maybe once in a while send out one of their Paladins or Clerics with their gleaming armor and chivalric ideals to go out on grand and glorious quests.

Let's be honest though. One thing Shelyn's domains all have in common is a tendency to get messier then they care to admit. Sometimes, sure - the situation needs an impassioned speech by someone good with words and pure of heart. And sure, sometimes the situation needs a knight-in-shining-armor and solid of faith to save the day. Sometimes though, what is needed is something a little more along the lines of a big scary dude waiting in an alley with a shank for a local bigot or sexual predator.

Kaz tucked away in the shadows. This wasn't an officially church sanctioned thing, obviously. Hells, when he does show up for an occasional service someone usually assumes he's lost. Can't entirely blame them. Not much about him says "Beauty", not on the outside. He wore simple dark clothing, was a head taller then most others with a facial scar over one eye, and his "Butterknife" wasn't the most graceful weapon. It's been called an "Orcish Falchion". A nice way of saying that it looked like he literially stole a hunk of iron about the size of a bastard sword and hammered on it until one end was a handle and one side had a relatively sharper edge. But when you're as strong as Kaz is, the definition of what is a "Shank" gets a bit more flexible.

So why was he out here? Because there was something Kazrir and the Church of Shelyn agreed on completely. Love should Win. Love should always Win. He's known it enough to know that, it was too good for this world otherwise.

This wasn't a paid job, this was someone calling in a favor who called in a favor. He was a Bounty Hunter by trade and one of the secrets of the profession was that sometimes the best strategy was to just find somewhere you knew the mark was going to be at some point and just - wait. Quietly. Patiently. Silently. Half-Orcs had a reputation for not being very stealthy and quiet, but that wasn't right really. Actually, they could be very quiet if they wanted to be. Just that they didn't do anything like that for fun.

A human with a chunk taken out of one of his ears enters the alley, just as promised. Even a little earlier then Kaz expected. A real prize this guy. A local bigot *and* sexual predator, had a thing for mixed-race couples. Especially ones where it was a female human and a male non-human. The pretty speeches didn't work, and he was smart enough to leave when he saw a hint of shining armor after the first run in. Enough of a pattern that a warning wasn't really nessecary.

Half-Orcs, can be way more stealthy and quiet then most people think. His "butterknife" he lets out of it's wrappings as the human with the chunk out of his ear goes by. Kaz could hit him from the front, it would be more honorable. Nah, from behind is more effective. He can't help but drop a line though.

"Hey, Steo. Shoulda listened to the first two guys, idjet."

The real reason is because I didn't know about the setting to know how far about they are, just found an interactive map and it is rather dramatic. Willing to tweek that part, just need something with a slummy hive of villainy vibe and if you know of somewhere closer that also works I'm definitely listening.

In-Universe? Could be that he's been hired to track down someone that he has a personal grudge with, especially if the church of Shelyn is paying.

What do you think of Kazrir?

In terms of a slummy hive of villainy, these are plenty and scattered all over the world really. Pretty much pick any river kingdom and you'll find one. Pitax is a good example.

That said, minus some exceptions, Golarion's pantheon are pretty tight ass. Sheyln isn't really the kind to keep assassins really. Maybe inquisitors?

Pitax is way better, I'll change the app. Thank you.

And I don't picture it as an official thing. More like Kazrir is a Bounty Hunter on his own that sometimes when the local Shelyn church would find that skillset handy someone goes "you know, I know a guy who is surprisingly tolerable considering..."

No problem. The reference is here. Knowledge (local) is not a background skill by the way they've been split.
