PC SHEET

Name: Ulfgrim Ironhide - Barbarian (Elemental Kin/Drunken Brute)

Clan:  Hvítabiôrning (sigil-white bear)

Age:  23

What do you look like? Ulfgrim Ironhide is a large man of both tall height and thick muscular build.  Long reddish-blonde hair frames a round bearded face which is dominated by his piercing green eyes and a friendly disarming smile. He is wearing fine crafted Lamellar Leather Armor bedecked with ivory and white furs from the northlands and brandishes a plethora of weapons, including a very large well-made ancient axe, a huge club, as well as an assortment of daggers, in addition to the fine leather pack and fancy composite long bow that hang from his back.

What was your childhood like? Ulfgrim grew up as one of youngest children in a very large northern family and, as such, was neither set to inherit nor to lead his kin. This left the lad much to his own devices, which at times had not turned out well for the youth, especially when he was repeatedly caught breaking the rules and consequently punished. Even though he was never formally educated, nonetheless, he grew up in a rough-and-tumble ultracompetitive environment with older brothers and sisters who provided different lessons of a sort. This, combined with his youthful preoccupation with hunting, fishing and trekking about the nearby forests has molded Ulfgrim into the man he is today, goods skills, bad skills, and even including his more deadly skills.

Who are your parents/siblings? Ulfgrim is the fourth eldest son of Ulrick Ironhide, that is in addition to having several older and one younger sister, and also not counting any of his father's known bastards. Ulfgrim's mother, Erika, was taken to Vahalla when Ulfgrim was a baby and, even though he misses his mother, his current stepmother, Sidgurtha, has been more than kind to the lad, as well all of his 'legitimate' siblings. His eldest brother is Uther and is in his early thirties, then next in age come Viggo and Thorin who are both slightly older than Ulfgrin. Plus, his three living sisters, who are Astride age 28 and Lagertha age 25, and finally little Gretil who is only age 10 but already is quite rebellious!

What has your character done since growing up?  Since growing up, Ulfgrim formally left home on good terms with his family and has travelled the region, sometimes hiring out as a sell-sword in a local dispute, as a caravan guard, and even a few times on quests for rewards or riches. Even though Ulfgrim did kill the 'Lion of Satte' who had been plaguing livestock near his home giving the warrior a bit of localized notoriety, nonetheless Ulfgrim Ironhide has not yet to know true fame in his life, which is about the only chance he has for glory and to reach Valhalla.

What is your occupation? Ulfgrim is formally trained as a carpenter, however his skills are rudimentary at best. Oh he can build you a nice barn, but if you ask him to build you a house, well, it's probably going to look like a real nice barn! Regardless, the lad has other skills that he can use to feed himself and has, somehow, always managed to keep his pockets full of silver, well for the most part anyway. However, the current lack of funds brings him to his current predicament.

What is your social class? Even though Ulfgrim hails from a prominent northern family who have accumulated a fair amount of wealth trading in ivory tusks and silver from the north over the years, nonetheless Ulfgrim has no social standing of his own other than as fourth son to Ulrick Ironhide of the Clan Hvítabiôrning. As such, they are entitled to his sword in times of need and he is entitled to wear the sigil of the white bear, nothing more, nothing less. Which, that and four coppers, will get you a cup of poor ale anywhere across the lands!

What motivates you? Many things motivate Ulfgrim, some past, some present and some future. He is motivated by his past to accumulate more power and notoriety than his older brothers and sisters as part of a well ingrained ongoing sibling rivalry. Furthermore, since the warrior is nearly broke at the present time, he is highly motivated to earn some coin, to continue accumulating wealth and to possibly even acquire land someday. However, the most powerful motivation centered on the core of the barbarian's soul has to do with the future everlasting, as evidenced by Ulfgrim's near obsession to earn the fame, glory and honor befitting a warrior destined for Valhalla.

What is your greatest ambition? Even though Ulfgrim craves wealth, fortune and fame for himself, in truth the man secretly desires to have many strong children whose glory, fame and fortune will eclipse his own and that will secure the family's name Ironhide in the everlasting annals of history.

What do you fear most? The thing that Ulfgrim fears the most is dying a coward's death, one unworthy of admission to Valhalla or even any of the other Norse realms of the dead, Folkvangr, Hel or the Realm of Ra'n. Specifically, the warrior is terrified of an eternal existence as a troubled spirit that is separated from his friends and family in the afterlife and is instead forever tied to the material world of men as a ghost.

What is the history and current status of your romantic life? Ulfgrim is not a virgin by any means and as a youth he had his share of girlfriends, but as a grown man with no land, no fame, no wealth and no social position, his choices for a proper partner are virtually non-existent at the present. Nonetheless, the warrior keeps a good attitude, after all his paternal grandmother, Uetra, told him long ago before her passing that, 'True Love will find you when you aren't chasing it,' which essentially translates into being patient for once in his life!

What is your relationship with the gods? Like most folks, while Ulfgrim reveres Odin the most, nonetheless the warrior worships all of the Norse gods and typically calls upon the powers of whichever one seems the most appropriate to the situation at hand. But Ulfgrin is no fool either. He realizes that the gods are fickle; one moment they might favor you and the next moment forget you entirely.

What are your likes and dislikes?  Ulfgrim is not a complicated man and enjoys a warm fire, deep cup and good food when he is relaxing! However, the barbarian also loves to compete, most especially at individual dances of death found in the natural world, but even the larger strategies underlying the art of war, as well. What Ulfgrim dislikes are people that treat those who are weak or who are unable to defend themselves unfairly or violently, however the one thing that the barbarian will never tolerate is pure evil and he will righteously oppose it with all his being.

What are your quirks and mannerisms?  Outside of the home area where he grew up, Ulfgrim does not have a lot of good friends in the world. However, those that he does call 'friend' will have found someone who is thoughtful, trustworthy, resourceful and, above all else, someone who is a dependable ally in times of need.

This is a bit quirky-weird, but Ulfgrim carries a high-quality Axe made long ago that has been passed down through his family over the decades to those who are big and strong enough to effectively wield the huge weapon. In a sarcastic twist, Ulfgrim nicknamed the Axe, "Kindness."

After all, his stepmother has preached to the boys growing up that it's always much better to kill one's enemies with kindness!

What do you do to pass the time? In addition to martial exercises and training, Ulfgrim likes to eat, drink and make merry. However, the barbarian does have a quieter side that prefers experiencing the simple beauty of the world, the thrill of landing a huge fish, the sanctity and difficulty of the hunt, and above all the luxury of a full cup ale while sharing a good story sitting alongside a warm fire on a cold night. Contrary to what many might assume by looking at him, Ulfgrim does not like to fight unless there is some purpose to it.

How would you like to be remembered? Ulfgrim would like to be fondly recollected by his future children as a strong, kind and loving father, and who is commemorated by his people as a wise, successful and prosperous leader, and who is also memorialized by history for all time as a great warrior who achieved glory and fame far beyond his means and anyone's expectations!

Describe at least two people you would consider your allies: Ulfgrim is absolutely loyal to his father, Ulrick, who has always treated his fourth son as 'special' while the elder skilled the lad in the ways of combat and tactics while growing up in the Ironhide family. They have hunted together, fished together, fought together and killed together and are bound by more than just blood.

Ulfgrim's biggest ally in the world is his sister, Astride, who helped raise Ulfgrim after his mother, Erika, died and was called to Valhalla as a worthy shield maiden and warrior of the Clan. As such, the brother and sister remain extremely close and, above everyone else in the world, Ulfgrim knows for sure that Astride would lay down her life for him and that he would likewise sacrifice his life for her.

Finally, even though she is not technically an ally, Ulfgrim would run through walls and take on an army if anyone threatened his baby sister, Gretil, who is only ten years old but who long ago captured a soft spot in the huge warrior's heart! One of the worst-case scenarios he could imagine is if the barbarian had to choose between his father, his elder sister Astride or his baby sister, Gretil.

Describe at least two people you would consider to be your enemies: Kirstain Bearscar grew up in a nearby village and is only a handful of months younger than Ulfgrim, but his family moved away long ago. In fact, Kirstain one of his father's numerous bastards. However, this particular bastard was conceived when Ulrick lay with Kristain's mother, while Ulfgrim's own mother, Erika, was home alone and then pregnant with the boy.

Thereafter, when his mother, Erika, died in the year following Ulfgrim's birth as a result of lingering complications, Ulfgrim grew to eventually blame Kirstain for the sins of his own father, convincing himself that the bastard was responsible for 'luring' Ulrick away at a time when his own mother needed her husband, thus making the bastard the same as responsible for his mother's death in Ulfgrim's mind.
_______________________

Ulfgrim, along with his entire immediate family, have sworn a blood oath to kill a foul man named Hod Swinsen, who raped one of the warrior's sisters, a sweet innocent girl named Hallie, and then left her for dead about a decade ago. The fourteen-year-old girl lived just long enough to identify her attacker before she succumbed to the hideous wounds, dying less than an honorable death.

Even though Hod had immediately fled the region in disgrace and has not been heard from since, nonetheless the entire clan will always remember the blood sin that Hod Swinsen inflicted upon the Ironhide family and their binding oath that it will be cleansed when possible!

Hey, thanks for applying. Before you get too far, I just wanted to let you know that one of our active characters is a shifter/barbarian who turns into a bear. Having two guys that turn into bears might be a bit much. :D Are you up for changing your concept?

You're welcome. Figured I'd try to save you a lot of work if I could. Look forward to seeing what you come up with. Let me know if you have any questions.

Everything looks pretty good. Just a couple small things to tweak in your gear to better fit the setting. In this setting ink and paper literacy doesn't exist. It's still all runes. Those things will exist in other cultures that you may encounter but are not part of the Jarnheim culture. the ioun torch isn't a great fit either. it's too much of a high magic setting convenience item. I appreciate the appeal from a mechanics standpoint, having light without occupying your hands, but I want magic to be more subtle and less of an everyday convenience, if that makes sense. I'm still trying to feel out exactly where the boundaries are and having to assess on a case by case basis. Otherwise, you're good to go. Oh, one more thing. The party is 5th level now so please level yourself up to 5.
