Declan Jervis, Mad Thief Extraordinaire

History/Background

Declan grew up mostly on the streets, learning to pick pockets and pilfer goods at an early age, under the tutelage and heavy fist of a local crime lord. In his teens, a gang war left his employer and most of his compatriots dead.

This left Declan on his own, with a few former gang members in his employ. He kept honing his skills, graduating to burglary. He did the occasional job for hire, but mostly relished the challenge.

One day, he was asked to steal a golden statuette, a request from one wealthy patron who wanted to get back at another. The statuette, in the shape of a small, grinning creature, was said to hold a spirit of stone kind.

Declan dismissed the warning as superstitious nonsense until his fingers touched the statuette, whereupon the impish spirit leapt into his head and has tormented him there ever since, giggling madly in the back of Declan's head. He is forever struggling to not be driven mad himself, and dreams now of being rid of the damned thong.

All of this is, of course, an internal struggle. Some days, naturally, are better than others. He is prone to odd behavior, but those who don't know him dismiss him as mad. If they only knew...

Role

General sneakiness, trapfinding, and lockpicking, especially on doors.

Appearance

He is a human who looks to be in his early 30s. His wardrobe might once have been a smart combo of functional leathers and urban style, but it appears to be showing signs of neglect. His dark hair is equally unkempt, and he looks like he needs a shave.

Behavior/Personality

He speaks with a guttural accent that hints at his streets-based upbringing. He is overall friendly and easygoing. His past successes as a thief and burglar have bolstered his ego to the point where he might seem cocky, but on his best days he manages to temper himself with a mischievous air that can be charming.

Alas, he exchanges moments of reasonable lucidity with bursts of madness. He has moments where he twitches at an unseen influence, or his eyes dart around, looking for who-knows-what.

Then there's the giggling. Most of the time, he looks like he might be struggling to hold it back, but on occasion the gibbering sound bursts forth, making him seem to be quite mad.

'Improved feint' is a background feat , so you can buy another Background / Background feat.

Yep, you can play around in the "blueroom" before characters are selected if you want. so you can get into character / show off / make friends
