Appearance

Hamako is notably broader in the shoulders than most kitsune, with a healthy layer of muscle largely concealed under thick red and white fur. His hair is long, but he keeps it tied back in a loose ponytail to keep it manageable. His eyes are bright yellow in his true form, but fade to pale green on the rare occasions he chooses to pass as a human. In both forms, he's not outrageously attractive, but he's certainly striking. His most signature trait, however, is a booming, baritone voice. He's capable of speaking clearly and loudly enough to be heard from impressive distances and over quite a bit of noise.


Personality
Hamako is loud, boisterous, and given to joviality. He finds it difficult to remain sad or angry for a long time. He also has little care for the subtlety that kitsune are known for, preferring to be up-front with his intentions whenever possible. Though he's not particularly bright, there is no denying his passion for relics and curios. Every single seemingly ordinary scrap of cloth, pebble, or bit of rusty metal has a story behind it, which he will gush over as long as he has an audience.
He isn't completely out of touch with his kitsune heritage, however. He is a faithful follower of Daikitsu, and can often be found going through equipment looking for anything that needs to be repaired or replaced, especially after the rampant neglect he witnesssed in the Celestial Menagerie. He also always makes sure to have some small change on hand in case he comes across a beggar. He can get very touchy over anybody mocking his beliefs, but that's rarely enough to push him into violence.


History

Kitsune, among those who know them, are famous for being cunning tricksters, subtle mystics, and experts at seemlessly blending into whatever community they enter. Hamako (or Harold, as some folks call him) is none of these things. True, he keeps his father's faith and has an intense interest in mysticism, but he took more after his mother, a Chelish opera singer. So it's little surprise that he ran off to join the circus, aiming to put his booming voice to work. Unfortunately for him, he joined the Celestial Menagerie.

Yes, his exotic nature as a kitsune saw him rocket to the forefront in performances, directing crowds with a set of adamantine lungs, but that popularity saw zero translation into pay. Not only that, but Mistress Dusklight took great joy in degrading him for his obsession with seemingly pointless relics and mementos. He also was appalled by her refusal to spend money on basic maintenance, and her callous behavior towards beggars and folks who "couldn't keep up". It reached a boiling point where Dusklight booted him into a rubbish pile, saying that "he could look for more of his worthless trinkets in there." Digging himself out, he used his booming, operatic voice to loudly cuss her out, give as good as he got, and announce that he'd not work for her even at swordpoint. And before taking his leave, he also made sure to take the feather from a tamed crow that she had killed earlier for having a broken wing. After all, crows are symbols of grudges.

For a while, he just made a living off of traveling around and showing off the more valuable, verifiable, and notable of his esoterica - with the jewel of his collection being a scrap of a cloak stained with the blood of the silver dragon Terendelev, martyred in the fall of Kenabres. But he still yearned for the attention and pageantry of the big top. So quite obviously, he was overjoyed when he stumbled across the Circus of Wayward Wonders. It even had other defectors from the Celestial Menagerie! True, it was not as grand a circus as the old one. But there was a camraderie that was absent back them. He had found his new family.

And gods help whoever decides to take them from him.
