No, that is +1 to hit with it. 🙂

So why does it say damage is 1d8+2 where is the extra + coming from?

the Noble in our group also has a long sword his says -2 and 1d8-2 for damage yet he has a str of 12 (+0) I am just  trying to figure out the mechanics

oh ok I added to my post why does the noble have a -2 but a +0 for his str score. is it because of his lucky sign?

No idea. From what I can see it should be +0 to hit and damage. Could be a mistake. Copied from another post and just not corrected. Have to ask the DM.

Nope, it's just a sword. It's about the best you can hope for at level 0.

but game rules wise why is one long sword 1d8-2 ( The characters str is +0) and the other sword is 1d8+2 (+1 Str +1 Lucky sign) just trying to wrap my head around the rules and how they work

I think it has something to do with all zero-level characters only knowing one weapon. I'll have to look it up. I'm new to the system as well.
