Backstory

 Kai was born to Joseph and Ellie Erwood and had a generally productive and happy childhood. When he hit his teens, Kai fell in love with being a showman. He started doing physical exercise and researching different ways to do stage magic in order to work in Hollywood. And while his teen years caused many a teacher stress (him studying how to pick locks, palm cards, and disappear from plain sight allowing him to cause them no end of trouble). Going to an arts college Kai quickly found that his albinoism was actually causing him more harm than help due to him always standing out. This meant that unless the role specifically called out for an individual to be either an albino or easily physically recognizable, he often couldn't get a role.

 Ironically, it was a villain raid that ruined one of the casting calls he was at that gave him a new focus on life. The man 'Mr. Magik' used a strange technology to make objects float in order to help him rob a bank near the theater. Kai realized that there was a massive amount of actual magic and technology that could supplement TV shows for much cheaper and better than current CGI and stage tech. 

Having heard from a friend that there were 'hundreds' of unexplored villain lairs of captured villains, Kai decided that his new way into Hollywood would be with unmatched stage 'magic'. 

Complications

Motivation: Thrills - The idea of being an actual super thief and being able to do things no one else can is the lifeblood of why Kai does what he does.
