Jikjak Whiptail

"Spores!"spacer.png

Jikjak grabbed the extendable hood on his clothing and stretched it over his face, double-checking to ensure it was secured properly.

"Alright. Unsecured compound. Looks like it's been abandoned - or well-disguised as abandoned to dissuade nosy Azholes or lizards."

Hopping out of the APC, the ysoki does a quick check on his laser rifle, and pauses to go through his collection of holy symbols, raising a few of them to his lips to kiss them through the transparent barrier shielding him from the environment.

"My recommendation? Shawkra takes point. Phelar and I follow up. Nils brings up the rear."

spacer.pngSealing his armor, Nils grabbed his rifle and moved over to follow the others. He was frankly not optimistic anymore but some shelter would be better than none. They would have to do something about the spores before moving everyone inside of it though.

"I've got the rear," He confirmed.

While Phelar coughs, the rest of you get your EP up and move in. As soon as you enter the spore cloud, an alarm goes off in your armor warning that your EP is being drained at three times the normal rate. While this is concerning, its not immediately pressing as it still means you have a full day of protections (everyone is in level 3 armor with EP duration in days = armor item level). It does however, speak to the potency of whatever these spores are.

With that little more information, you can attempt to identify what they are.

Identify spores - Life Science or Survival DC 25

These appear to be the narcotic spores from a Feeder Fungus. A type of ambulatory mushroom, though you haven't seen any. And the amount of spores in the area is concerning. Feed Fungi are typically not groups big enough for this concentration of spores.

The spores can typically be harvested to create tier 2 sedatives but requires doing so from a dead or helpless plant.

Further in, Shawkra finds there's only one way to go, as the corridor to the west is collapsed in a heap of concreate and thick, fungal roots. To the east, the passage continues another 15 feet before ending at another door.

Spores hang heavy in the air, each footstep crunching lightly as you leave prints in the fine layer of particulates on the floor. The door is similar to the one at the top of the stairs but is unlocked and untrapped, opening automatically on proximity. The motion of the door kicks up yet more spores, though it has no additional effect so long as you keep your helmets on.

The room appears to be some kind of lab with several work tables in the center of the room, monitors lining the walls, a set of terminals along the northern wall, and a large broken glass cylinder.

The screens on the terminals are blank and don't respond to any keystrokes.

Examine Terminals - Engineering DC 20

The terminals aren't getting power. Opening the panel beneath you find several bioluminescent fungi (surprising no one) growing on the connection between two power conduits. Removing the fungi and reconnecting the cables should restore power to the terminal.

Previous Engineering DC 25+

The fungi have also caused a short circuit, which would shock anyone that went to use the terminal after restoring its power. You correct this malfunction as part of this check.

Examine Cylinder - Perception DC 15

The cylinder was some of holding device, which was obvious before your examination. What's more important is that you believe it could hold a small sized creature and that it was shattered from the inside.

Previous Perception DC 20+

There is some kind of charred plant remains among the shards of the cylinder. There isn't much to go off of other than "crispy plant remains" though some proper scientific equipment might be able to get more details.

Your protections continue their warning about being over taxed all the while.

(Theatre of the mind for the time being)

Phelar Morilla

spacer.png"Spores...!" Phelar said as she began coughing up a storm. "There's...<cough>...nothing....<cough>...else...<cough>...attached to...<cough>...the keypad."

She'll try to enact environmental protections on her armor before entering the building with the others. She'll do her best to identify what the spores are incase they poisoned her or something. "They are narcotic spores from a Feeder Fungus, but they're usual not found in a large enough concentration to create this many spores. They can be used to make a sedative, but they'd have to be harvested from a dead or helpless plant."

When that's out of the way she will move on and join the others. First examining the cylinder, then moving to one of the terminals to access the system.

spacer.png"What have we got?" Nils said as he joined the others in the room. Moving up the cylinder he squinted at in in the light from his armor. "Looks like there was some king of plant matter in there. Was this some sort of botany lab?"

He did not like the idea of the Azlanti toying around with the local plant life. He was no survival specialist, much preferring the inside of a vehicle to trudging through trackless wilderness, but he grew up on this planet. The flora and fauna were bad enough without someone messing with them and making matters worse. Everyone has some kind of story about a spore related illness or something getting under the wall and dragging away a friend of a friend.

In Nils' case, it was a little more personal than a 'friend of a friend'.

T Shawkra

ShawkraL2HvyArmor_token.png.27f8f8f0a31b7b4db4c0509e34d07496.pngShawkra will look around, including the cylinder and try to help Phelar with the terminals. “Looks like if we clean these connectors, we might be able to power the terminals”

Looking around “Should we collect some of these spores if they can be used for medicinals? Or is there some mutation going on that would make it moot? Seems like someone was examining the local flora and it got out of hand. Always a good plan to piss off the local beings when they seem clearly in control of the environment” (with an eye roll)

Phelar stands PERFECTLY still for several minutes before she starts coughing and is able to get her protections online and follow along. She successfully identifies the spores and then moves to work on getting the consoles live while Shawkra and Nils search the glass tube.

Power reconnected, our resident Technomancer reaches for the keyboard and is given a loud and bright ZAAAAAAAAP. She's is thrown back and bounces off the metal tables in the middle of the room.

@Kyper007Need a DC 14 Reflex Save for Half

And because I forgot to describe it in the last post there is another door in this room identical to the last, in the Northern wall. It is likewise unlocked and untrapped, leading into yet another hallway. The hall leads 20ft to the North, where it turns West and continues around the corner. At this corner, on the Eastern wall is another door.

Phelar Morilla

spacer.png"Ouch...!" Phelar said as she tried to pick herself up off of the floor after that jolt passed through her. Coughing up a bit of blood as she staggers there for a moment. Then makes her way over to the console. "...short, somewhere..." Phelar was not in good shape, at all.

She would look over the system, then follow along the lines to where the issue was. "...found it." Came her pained voice as she began to work on the short, fixing it.

Jikjak Whiptail

"Laoshufayathaa!"spacer.png

Jikjak ran over, pulling out his credstick and glaring at it like it had just insulted his ancestry.

179 credits.

He sighed, and worked his hands, before gripping the temporal strands once more, working them with a look of intense concentration, like he was tying some complex knot. Then, as if he was performing some sleight of hand trick for children, he opened his hand, revealing an ampuole of red liquid, before looking at his stick again.

129 credits.

"Here. It's not much, but it'll be a while and a few extra credsticks before I can buy something stronger."

He handed over the ampuole with a cheeky grin.

"And if they're still alive, there's some bloke in Atuity who's looking at their accounts and going nuts."

Jikjak uses timey-wimey stuff to get some healing for Phe, who pulls herself over to the console and fixes the now very obvious fungi-induced short in the console.

That fixed, the computer itself is unsecured and is easily accessed. An Azlanti logo spins slowly in the upper right corner of the screen with the words "Resource Node 07" written next to it. Within, you find 3 modules in various states of functionality behind separate firewalls. Accessing each is a separate check.

Facility Controls (Computers DC 19)

This module controls this facility's main power, lights, and environmental controls, including air filtration.

FILTRATION: OFFLINE - INSUFFICENT POWER

EMERGENCY LIGHTING: ONLINE - BATTERY ONLY

MAIN GENERATOR: ERROR - STATUS UNKNOWN

BACKUP BATTERY: LOW POWER MODE 3% RESERVES

Firestorm (Computers DC 30)

WARNING: ⚠️CONTAINMENT BREACH DETECTED⚠️

EVACUATTION ADVISED - SITE SANITATION PROTOCOLS RECCOMENDED

Almost all of the data in this module is corrupted but you are able to find the words "armor" and "resources" among the scrambled data. It also includes a 3D wireframe "gif" of sorts showing a model of a beaked, worm-like creature.

ARSA-03 (Computers DC 25)

This module contains a set of coordinates to something listed as ARSA-03. Along side this is a list of names though the context of each appears to be corrupted:

  • RN-03a
  • RN-03b
  • ARSA-03 LFD Controller-A
  • ARSA-03 RL-A
  • ARSA-03 PMF-A

Alternatively, you could remove the data core from the console with an Engineering DC 19 check. This would allow you to access these modules at a different time when connected to another device (such as a datapad or computer)

You also have the hallway to the north to explore.

  • 2 weeks later...
Phelar Morilla

spacer.png"Heh, thank you Jicky." Phelar said offering the Ysoki a soft smile. Then she drank the offered potion.

After that she would look at the terminal again, considering. "For now I am going to just try to access the facility controls. Then I'll pull the data core so we can look at the other contents later. Unless you wish me to try and look at them now." Phelar said as she began to work on accessing the controls.

"...well that explains the spores. Filtration is offline. Emergency lighting is online, but not for much longer because the place is running on battery power and those are currently at 3% reserves." Then she got a concerned look before stating the last thing. "Main generator is throwing an error. Status is unknown it says. We need to either find it, and get it running again so we can get the Filtration system going again, or we need to find an alternate power source for the Filtration system"

She then turns and looks towards the others a moment, waiting to see if they want her to try the other two modules, or wait.

spacer.png"Go ahead and pull the core. I'd rather have it on hand if we need to bail out of here in a hurry," Nils said, "Then let's locate that generator and see if we can't get it back online. We'll need to get filtration back online if this place is going to serve as anything like a shelter."
