By Mal, I always draw from "Firefly" episode where River says Mal means (Bad, Evil, Rotten) in Latin, That's why most of my morally dubious characters (usually warlocks) are named Malus. I think it is kinda cool, little-known thing. That's why the name is usually spelled Malcolm, kinda warding off bad things, while your is Malcom, which is more inviting.
