Bio

T'Loran's was born in the year 2196, daughter of two members of the Vulcan Trade Delegation to Andoria. Her parents attempted to get little T'Loran interested in commerce, but aside from her negotiation skills, little of it stuck. The Call of Science was too strong in the little Vulcan, who spent her childhood on Andoria dreaming of a spot in the Vulcan Science Academy. Which she went on to achieve, studying Xenoanthropology from 2214-2217.

But after graduation, she had something of an issue. If you wanted to do field research as a xenoanthropologist, you needed to get onto a ship. Ideally a Starfleet ship on an exploration mission, if you wanted to discover anything truly unusual. Which meant a return to school - this time, by enrolling at Starfleet Academy on Earth.

When she graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2220, Ensign T'Loran was a model Vulcan. Pacifist, Vegetarian, and ruthlessly logical. Or at least she came across that way. In truth, she was a little too into her research, but that's hardly unique for a Science Officer.

This changed with T'Loran's first fleet assignment. She was placed under the command of Rahil, a Deltan Lieutenant. Rahil got T'Loran to loosen up - to see her colleagues as something other than research specimens, and relax her stances on topics like the consumption of flesh and overt displays of emotion. Over the course of their assignment, the two got close. Close enough to practice their telepathy on one another.

T'Loran would end up trailing Rahil from assignment to assignment, until they ended up as Captain (Rahil) and First Officer of the Ahwahnee, a small survey vessel.

But all things come to an end - in 2250, Rahil decided to retire from active duty and took a job at a research base on a colony called Iridin. T'Loran, naturally, ignored the calls for her to (finally) return to Vulcan and marry her fiancee, and followed Rahil. They were very happy together.

Until 2256.

T'Loran had been visiting family on Vulcan when the Klingons sacked the colony. It wasn't possible for her to even retrieve Rahil's body until after the peace the following year.

Vulcan Grief Conselling was... not great. Mostly just repression. So T'Loran went to Earth instead, and found herself a decent counsellor there. Before she knew it, she'd enrolled in education again...

With no reason to live on Iridin anymore, T'Loran had intended to rejoin Starfleet once she was fully trained. There would doubtless be many others in need of a good counsellor - especially other Vulcans, ill-served by a culture that considered emotions themselves as something to overcome.

What she had failed to account for, however, is that she had retired as a Command Officer with a good 30 years of experience, mostly on survey and exploration vessels... So when she volunteered to return to Starfleet, they didn't start her off as a rookie counsellor - they appointed her as Captain on the USS Franklin.

Not quite the posting she'd been hoping for...
