Celeste stands at 5’ 0 1/2" tall, and she’ll correct anyone who suggests she is only 5'. She is muscular, which makes her heavier than most would expect. Her fiery red hair matches her spirit...or attitude...depending on who you ask. Her storm colored eyes are a clear gift from the god who grants her powers.

Her chainmail and shield are constant companions. Strapped to her back is her crossbow, but in her hand is her warhammer, leaning on her shoulder. The petite cleric is an amusing image, at least until anyone witnesses the wrath she can unleash.

Character Sheet

Personality

Traits:
Too Smart For Her Own Good: She is too self aware. She knows she’s smart, strong and pretty. While other women would use these advantages for their own benefit in subtle ways, Celeste is straightforward and unrefined. The small woman is more likely to do things on her own than ask for assistance. She will correct wrong information and rarely be polite about it.

It’s My Fault: Celeste is still reeling from the death of her father at her own hands. The crew forcefully removed her from the ship, but she would have left on her own had she had the chance. Corvalis’s foolishness of siding with her against the crew of the Wayward Bell, is as much her own fault as it his. She’ll never apologize to him though.

Bonds:
Wayward Bell: The ship where she was born. Her father was the Captain and is the only place she calls home.

Corvalis Syldark: An elf from the north that joined her father’s crew years ago. He’s become a big brother, best friend, constant annoyance...any and all of those.

Ideals:
Hard Work Pays Off: If someone puts forth the effort, they should be rewarded with the boon of their enterprise. That was always the code on the Wayward Bell and how Celeste believes the world, at large, should work.

The Sea Means Freedom: The fresh air and saltwater speak to Celeste’s soul. It connects her to Besmara. Wooden planks of a ship below her feet give her as much comfort as a warm bed does.

Flaws:
Quick to Anger: The wrong word...or glance...in Celeste’s direction can set off the constant fuse that is the fire within her. She is as fast to throw a fist as she is a vicious barb. Besmara’s power is fueled by her anger, all her magic causes some type of pain and needs Celeste’s rage to channel it.

The Bottle is My Best Friend: She works hard and plays hard. Other than the pain her god forces on her, Celeste has lived a good life. Her love of ale is not to drown away any demons, she simply enjoys the taste and the feeling. But she doesn’t know how to stop once she starts...which is when the problems start...or the fun...

Backstory

Born at sea, Celeste has only known a ship as her home.

Her father, Captain Avery Thomas, led the ship and crew of the Wayward Bell. Well liked and respected, no one was surprised when he brought his favorite paid companion on the ship to live, as she was pregnant with his child. He meant to care for them the only way he knew how. While it was never said that Captain Thomas loved the prostitute, he was kind to her. He did however, love his child very much, and grieved for her when the mother perished at sea less than a year after Celeste's birth.

The Captain and crew had no idea how to raise a female child, but did the best they could. They felt the gifts Besmara has blessed her with was a sign of good fortune for the Wayward Bell, would protect them from the vicious pirates who would certainly not harm a vessel of their favored goddess. Whenever at port, Celeste was given many books to read on the subjects of religion and history, hoping her connection to the lawless Besmara could be balanced by knowledge. The training she received on deck though is what she preferred. She liked the hard labor, she liked being useful.

As she grew up, she would join the crew at port for nights out. She learned that working hard allowed you to play hard, and Celeste enjoyed playing hard. She would often come back to the ship quite drunk.

One night, she stumbled back to the ship with an unknown male companion. After giving a very passionate kiss to him, she boarded the ship alone. She was immediately confronted by her father. Captain Thomas had stayed up on deck to watch for his daughter's return. He was already angry at how she had fallen for ale, seeing her kiss a man so publicly and passionately sent him over the edge.

An argument that woke every crew member on board and drew the attention of every passerby, began. In her angry return Celeste accidentally called upon Besmara for assistance, hurtling lightning at her father. While the damage from the bolt did not kill him, the fall did.

The crew had an immediate reaction, no longer was her connection to the Pirate Queen seen as a boon. Now it was an evil omen. Although most had known her her entire life, all they saw now was the murderer of their beloved captain. They did not give her a chance to grieve, throwing her back onto the dock. Much to her surprise, Corvalis, the ship’s Quartermaster, and her closest friend, followed her off the deck.

In the weeks that followed, the pair attempted to find a way to make it in a foreign city. They found it difficult to find work on merchant vessels or naval ships, as word of Captain Thomas's fate had spread, and his daughter was considered a criminal. It was Corvalis's idea to use a different last name and to begin looking at less reputable sea faring options.

Celeste rolled her eyes at his idea, it was the only idea they had. Good fortune smiled on them as her brother-like companion talked their way onto different pirate ships for temporary work. Celeste Jameston and Corvalis Syldark became a common sight on the docks and taverns where the rougher crowds mingled. It wasn't home, but it felt as close as they could get to it.

The Formidably Maid was one of their favorites, but when Corvalis began strumming a tune, reminding her of better days, she left for fresh air. A tall half-orc thought it wise to heckle her short stature. She wasn't sure if he was flirting or simply hoped to pick a fight. Celeste wished it had been both. It seemed it was neither.
