Character Name

Inertial Chocolatier-turned-FourierQuartermaster Sergeant

Biography

Raised at the SORA orphanage in BernSwitzerland after his single-parent father ended up in a nursing home following a car accident. Slightly above average pupil - hampered by a lack of ambition and a propensity for laziness rather than having issues with the material - that entered vocational training as baker and confectioner. After coming in second place in the end-of-apprenticeship competition, his instructor and mentor prodded him to continue with a specialist training as Chocolatier.

Mandatory military training was an unwelcome and depressing flashback to life in the orphanage with its rules and regulated routine. Thanks to his profession, Martin spent most of the time in the kitchen, only receiving to most basic military training - but on the flip side, a mandatory promotion (and thus further service time) was a forgone conclusion. To escape the undesirable sandwich position between troops and staff, Martin accepted the proposal of a promotion to Fourier even though that meant both further training and service time.

The new rank proved to be a comfortable one, with mostly administrative duties and only little 'military' demand while still offering that camaraderie seemingly exclusive to military that Martin had come to appreciate and even crave.

Not having enough ambition to further advance, Martin kind of stuck where he ended up, accepting a contract for professional military employment, initially fix-term for one year. However, since seeking a civilian job was such a hassle, Martin allowed the contract to be renewed - ten times, so far.

Physical Description

Z_Lijasd.JPG.7f56832cd7dbe3a587d4fbfcbe1f4048.JPGMartin's propensity for laziness included sports which, together with genetic disposition, made him a heavyset child, his weight only regulated due to the standardised meal size of the orphanage and later, first the forced activity during military training and then the requirements of 'representativeness' for contractual personnel. Even so, he's still solidly on the overweight scale, even accounting for his basic broad frame and size.

Military employment does impose some restrictions, so Martin keeps both hair and beard reasonably short even if not exactly neatly trimmed and his daytime attire is dictated by the regs with no visible customization beyond them. In his spare time, Martin prefers loose and comfortable clothing; jeans and t-shirt with an open shirt, usually white, grey, black or in muted colours.

Martin's an even-tempered, relatively easy-going somewhat introvert person, both in and out of uniform. He learned to be forceful and decisive, if necessary, though those are not native traits. He's reliably and fiercely loyal, if somewhat a stickler for rules (a trait that has been amplified by life in the military). Though very slow to really anger, once he flips, he slips into a vicious rage where all becomes secondary to destroy, even his own well-being.

A lover of science-fiction movies and fantasy books (and never the other way 'round !), Martin spends much of his spare time playing 4X computer games. His social life is rather barren; living on base in two rooms in the barracks offers only the bare minimum of privacy and space.

Apart from his weekly visit to his father and the occasional evening dinner of movie with comrades, he mostly stays by himself. Apart from occasional hookup - off-base and clandestine; inclusiveness and non-discrimination still do differ in theory and practice - Martin doesn't have a love life.
