  1. What's new in this game
  2. Name: Valeria Rugatonn Race: Half-orc (basically) Homeland: Westcrown, Cheliax Level: 3 Class: Warpriest Gender: Female Age: 21 Alignment: Neutral Good Deity: Pharasma Role: Melee, Healer Concept: Priestess of Fate Appearance Valeria is a complex mix of various bloodlines, with human as the largest fraction, orcish a strong second, and a smattering of something fey and even a little dragon. The resulting young woman stands 5'6" tall, with a soft, round, face, large expressive red eyes, and short dark hair. Small overgrown lower incisors remind her, and others, of her rough and tumble ancestors. Not one for complexity, Valeria dresses simply. Clothing is black, brown, or otherwise or dark colored, with white highlights, where possible. Personality Valeria's base demeanor is stoic and rather fatalistic, but roiling underneath the controlled surface is a myriad of opinions and emotions waiting to break out, to her credit or detriment. Her opinions on the need for justice and the general public good are strong and would be considered reasonable in any normal part of the world. Given the situation, she keeps her autrustic tendencies quiet. Although a natural caregiver, she is not above emotional outbursts and sharp, unkind words, although these incidents tend to be short and occasional. Background Valeria grew up in a low class, racially mixed slum of Rega Crua, the 'Blood Sector' of Westcrown. A series of misfortunes marred her early life, a strong family unit of seven was whittled down to four over time, by sickness, a working accident and even street violence. The resulting family, such as it was, forced Valeria to tend to her two younger siblings (fraternal twins, one sister and one brother) while her human father swilled his free time away, numbing himself to avoid the grief of his wife's violent death night after night and working the days away on the docks. To his credit, at least he brought in some money. However, it was not enough to quell the growing tension in the family as the young Valeria struggled to hold everything together. As her home life slowly tore at Valeria's psyche, two related events punctuated and defined her life. The first was falling for a seemingly nice boy from a reasonable artisan (blacksmith) family. Although he treated her kindly in their first couple encounters, Valeria got a strong dose of what lay under the surface when she dared at act with affection towards him in public. With his friends egging on her would-be boyfriend, the situation spiraled out of control in mere moments, from verbal abuse to a brutal beating as the young smith washed himself of the implication he had shown interest in a mixed blood lowlife. Somehow, Valeria was rescued after the fact, and even as she recovered, healing of her injuries, she careened through her feelings, from anger to shame. One thing set strongly in her mind - had she been of diabolic blood instead of orc, it was doubtful she would have lived. Feelings of sympathy towards the less fortunate helped quell the worst of the other emotions, as she came to her fist pointed example of how much worse others might have it. In her bed with time to think, she reflected on how awful it must feel to be owned, to be hunted, to be truly destitute. She had it bad, but for others, it was worse. At the same time, she wrestled with fate, death, and her own mortality. Why had she lived when so many others in her family had not? She could see no rhyme nor reason for it. Even before she was fully recovered, Valeria began seeking answers. Social injustice was not something one talked about openly, but a young woman wondering about fate and the whims of the gods was at least somewhat a safe topic. Well, it wasn't outright illegal, anyway. Her poking around, her spiritual search, resulted in a discussion with a wandering priest of Pharasma in the corner of a loud, rowdy bar. To Valeria, the priest was straightforward and honest. Her the priest, the young orc-blood was naturally talented and in great need. A deal was struck, and even though Valeria had only wanted answers, she was offered much more - training in the ways of the goddess, the Lady of Graves. Training wasn't easy. And the traveling priest of Pharasma was a hard man. Blood, sweat and tears were all too common. More than once Valeria told herself that was enough, she was having hard enough a time balancing this new torture with her home life. There was reading, learning the ways of the healer, the killer, and the protecter of those who have passed. Applied training was hard and relentless. But the priest's sincerity and passion kept her going, washing away the doubt and steeling her resolve each time. In the end, the man pronounced her ready to begin her own discovery of the mysteries of fate, and departing from her life as simply as he had entered it, leaving behind a small set of texts and tools to start her own her own journey. Shortly after, Valeria noticed one lock of her hair, towards the back, had turned white. Although partially uplifted by her spiritual awakening, Valeria's home life continued to suffer. The twins, tired of her years of pushy authority, all but kicked her out of the home. With little to her name, she found solace to the north in the form of a community in the Last Stand Inn of Rega Cader, the Dead Sector. Trading her skills in medicine and midwifery, Valeria set up shop in the little enclave of Wescrown's lower class. Even though the dangers outside the walls of the inn, including rampant slavers, nobles hunting prey and even uncontrolled monsters, keep Valeria home at night, at least it is a home. 3. And confirmed. The PC's should be 'well into' level 3. So... I think we're safe to level up. Huzzah. :)
  4. I'm thinking of boning up on the next segment of the adventure over this week. Like Paro, I've not cracked it open yet, so the first thing I'm going to do is make sure our feeling the characters should be level 3 is appropriate. From what I've seen of AP's, it sounds like it should be, but I just want to double check.
  5. That was what I was thinking. I think we just went with WBL for 2nd as well. Downtime is up to us and/or Aura. But story-wise it is flexible either way.
  6. I guess the resale value doesn’t really matter if we are balancing to 3000 though right? We don’t need to track extra inventory then. How much downtime would we have? I’d like for Elias to do some scribing if possible.
  7. I am okay with that since we are appearing to take an IC break off camera for the leveling up and GM switch. Sort of makes more sense this way to get on par. But could go with 50% resale value instead of 100%.
  8. are we going to use the LPF rules where we dont really care about the transactions as long as our listed WBL is 3000?

  11. Akina Tsura - Kitsune Rogue Akina Tsura Gender/Race: Female Kitsune Age: 19 Concept: Tricky female that is willing to do what is necessary to get done what she thinks needs to be done for the good of Westcrown Role: Skirmisher/trapfinder and Face Description In human form, Akina is a slender woman and not very tall, reflecting the traces of her Tian-Min heritage from a few of her ancestors on her father's side. Her green eyes are pretty, and her lips are full. Long strands of brown hair hang down her back, about halfway to her waist. Her eyebrows are pronounced, and she has an attractive exotic look about her features. She has little left in the way of her wardrobe and typically only wears her studded leather armor around now. She has black trousers and leather ankle boots with a low heel. Personality Akina is a secretive woman, not easily trusting of people when she first meets them. She can be polite and friendly as necessary, but she remains wary until she gets to know people. She is not above using her looks and gender to get her way, but prefers to use her wits instead. She has no qualms about using deceit or threats of intimidation either, being pragmatic. She can be extremely vengeful when scorned and is not afraid to use violence to accomplish her goals. Not really trusting in the laws of man or morality, she tends to just be herself and instead of worrying about the conflicts between good and evil. Background Felicia was born in Westcrown and traveled around with her family on trading ships. They kept their heritage mostly secret from business partners and customers. Her father owned a three-masted, square-rigged merchantman and kept his wife and daughter on board with him as they voyaged along the sea lanes going from port to port. Eventually they made enough money to buy a manor house in Westcrown and her mother remained ashore to continue raising their daughter on land. Her father continued his business, but found a trustworthy sailing master to run half the voyages to allow him to spend more time with his family. However, when Akina was still a teenager, her father's ship was lost at sea during one of the voyages he was captain. Her mother sold the manor house to move into an apartment, saving money and used the proceeds to partner with the sailing master in splitting the cost of a new ship. The share of the new business was enough to provide for the mother and daughter for a few years, at least until Akina was old enough to provide for herself. At least that was what Akina thought. Shortly after turning 18 years old, corrupt officials had closed in the shipping business and the debts were called in. Her mother's business partner had ruined the business by carrying more debt than he should and not paying off the right people. He was found hanging from a rafter in his stable just before creditor closed in. He likely had help in committing suicide, but it could not be proven nor were Guardsmen interested in alternate theories. Akina's mother tried to appeal to magistrates and recover some money, but she found she was responsible for the debts as well. While she looked to call in favors from some that she used to have influence with, someone outed her as kitsune she was facing accusations of being a charlatan and being false in business dealings. A few weeks later, her body was found stabbed to death in an alley. Guardsmen claimed she was mugged after curfew, but Akina suspected it was more than that. Whoever had managed to ruin the family business obviously had more sway with the local officials than her mother. Akina knew that corruption in the city was likely to be the cause of her family's fall from prosperity and the death of her mother. She wanted to do something about it, she just wasn't sure exactly what... yet. After publicly mentioning her desires, she was approached by a female human named Janiven who offered a potential proposal that Akina might be amenable to hearing out for consideration. Janiven told her to come to a place called Vizio's Tavern for an early dinner with some other like-minded individuals. 13. Thanks, FJ. But maybe we don't need to keep that current inventory into the next module. I actually found the comments at the end of the first module that I had not read yet. :p It recommends being well into 3rd level before starting the next module. I suggest we all level up and be allowed to take care of some off-line shopping for gear to bring us on par with the 3000gp WBL. The notes suggest some side adventures if necessary to level up or rolling right into the next module. So, we could very well have completed so off-line adventuring to bring our XP & GP to where it should be.
  14. ~ Day 10 , Late-Morning ~ Areal and Janiven express their gratitude for the assistance, particularly since they had not been able to do it themselves and the rest of the group did most of the hard work. The cleric promised, "I will always aid you when I can with my spells, come see me whenever you need any healing of wounds or afflictions, like from the effects of poisons. As long as I know the spell, I will cast it for you, though, I might need some help securing more expensive spell components." "I am even willing to brew potions that I am able to make, as long as you bring me the materials. I will do this for you as long as I live." "It is unlikely we will ever receive any official recognition from the City of Westcrown for defeating the Bastards of Erebus, but in the eyes of the citizens you all are starting to build a reputation as heroes of the city.
  15. Akina Tsura, Kitsune Scout Mini-stats Init +8, Speed 30, Perception +6 (Low-light vision) AC 18, Touch 15, Flat-footed 13 , CMD: 15 Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +1 HP: 17 Current:13 Conditions in Effect: Evasion Weapon in Hand: Shortbow LH Akina had not really needed any of the looted items for herself, except maybe a potion for emergencies. But with some extra gold from selling off some of the items she could potentially upgrade some of her personal gear. "Well, we do have the job of spreading out the truth of the demise of the Bastards so the city's folk know that the New Dawn dealt with them and removed their threat. That takes a bit of talking about the city for a day or two, yeah?" "Some of these other weapons might be of good use to train the rest of the movement's lesser experienced members with."
  16. Correct, only the potions were magical. The magic items escaped with the leader unfortunately.
  17. , human oracle 2 AC: 19 | HP: 17/18 | Spd: 20 feet | Init: +1 Ernelianus has his eye on the breastplate, which seems lighter and better made than his own. "Wealth is ours. Who do we target next? If it is this profitable we may well make an impact." Show Spells and Abilities Spells ~Orisons~ Detect Magic Guidance Resistance Mending Virtue Light Create Water ~First Level~ 5 of 5 used Obscuring Mist Barbed Chains Burning Hands Cure Light Wounds ~Revelations~ Gaze of Flames (Su): Gaze of Flames (Su): You can see through fire, fog, and smoke without penalty as long as the light is sufficient to allow you to see normally. At 7th level, you can gaze through any source of flame within 10 feet per oracle level, as if using clairvoyance. You can use this ability for a number of rounds per day equal to your oracle level, but these rounds do not need to be consecutive. Molten Skin (Ex): You gain resist fire 5. This resistance increases to 10 at 5th level and 20 at 11th level. At 17th level, you gain immunity to fire.
  18. Guys I made a shared inventory sheet in a new thread. Claim what you want, just mark it down! I had Elias take a potion of CLW. Paro, can I assume all of that stuff isn't magical? Once that's done, can we sell off the unneccesary stuff or trade it out at headquarters? I can help figure the math if needed.
  19. I would say, YES!!! :) I posted a transition to show the total loot from the lair and we can all be back at the safe house. Without cracking the second module myself, I cannot say if we need to level up or not to be 3rd level. I am guessing that might need to do that.
  20. ~ Day 10 , Late-Morning ~ Gathering up the loot and carting it up from the underground lair was time consuming. There was Janiven and Areal keeping watch to see if the fled gang leader returned. He had not. The helped carry loot and keep watch for any too nosy observers. Everyone headed to the temple safe house to sort out the weapons and what to do with it all. Total Haul 19 light maces 19 light crossbows with lots of bolts 19 daggers 19 sets of studded leather armor 1 Masterwork Breastplate 2 sets Masterwork Studded Leather armor 1 Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds 2 Potions of Cure Light Wounds 530 gp (from bodies) 50 wooden Mammon coins 600 gp worth of small gems (including one 100 gp pearl) Jewelry probably worth hundreds of gold (800 gp) Masterwork dagger Masterwork rapier Jeweled non-masterwork short sword worth 150 gp
  21. I've been careful to not crack the module until I'm safe - it's safe to start boning up on the next part as a DM, Paro? I'm getting the feeling the answer is yes. :)
  22. . . Valeria, Fate Seeker . . "We'll have to rest up, then think 'bout what to do, next," Valeria casually remarks, shrugging. She seems to be absentmindedly playing with that dagger again, feeling the weight and testing the balance. "Down side... takin' out these 'Bastards' might cause a stir. Stayin' quiet a while might be good."
  23. Bran, who'd been tagging along quietly for the last few minutes, steps up to help pile the weapons and other goodies into the bedding. After thinking over the others' remarks for a moment, he speaks up. "Still, if the Council intends to leave the little folk alone why have the Bastards target us? It surely seems like they were working with the Council's sanction, if not at their instruction." OOCSorry about the plain post. I still haven't had any time to sort through the mechanical side of these forums...
