Detailed Description

Clippety-cloppety, bold Jonstan the Rover
Rides misty-eyed down to the Dales again
Into forests and fields, rare beauty all over,
Land of his true loves—Aldee, Imthra, and Luthane,
Elda and Myrta, Chalantha and Araine.

Will he find yet another? Or be welcomed back?
Long lasses aplenty catch his winking eye.
Is it kisses he’ll taste soon? Or scorn everlasting?
Love and laughter and soon away Jonstan will fly—
Gone again over threshold and under dawn sky.

Far across Faerûn, a rover adventures free
’Til the Dales call his heart home again
To Jhaele, Sharune, Aleese and Rythree—
Warm arms and hearth and a roof ’gainst rain
’Til his wandering feet bear him away again.

Climbing far mountains, riding in high clover
To Waterdeep and the shores of the Shining Sea—
“Hark! Comes now bold Jonstan the Rover?
Will he, oh will he ever come back to me?”
The Dales call back the man wedded but free.

Clippety-cloppety, bold Jonstan the Rover
Comes riding down into the Dales again.
Their forests and fields, rare beauty all over,
His true love more than all the maidens in pain.
My man is riding mist-eyed to the Dales again.

Jaladha Tshamryl,
Minstrel of Battledale,
“Jonstan the Rover”

  1. What's new in this game
  2. Wood Elf, Ranger Seeing as the fey has chosen not to speak up, Rodin hopes the little beast either moved on or has decided to leave them alone this time. He carefully moves toward the passage to the right trying to slip past the pool. He is ready to dive for cover if the little demon shows up again. OOC Elven Lowlight vision, so he can see 40' as if full light rather than the normal 20 of the torch. Will take 10 on Spot and Listen checks for a total of 15 each when not in combat. It gets a +3 bonus if any of those are applied to Drow or large spiders. Rodin is still borrowing Auriel's bow. The serpent tongue arrows do both slashing and piercing damage. They are designed to use to cut ropes and break things more effectively. AppearanceRodin stands at 6 feet tall and appears a bit more muscular than the average elf. His skin has a light brownish tan look to it. His hair is brown with streaks of copper highlights through it and hangs down to just touch his shoulders. It normally has a bit of a wild windblown look to it. His eyes are a medium green which reminds most people of the color of leaves. He wears studded leather armor that has been dyed a camouflage pattern of browns and greens. His cloak is held closed by a brooch the shape of a silver arrow with green fletching. Aside from his dagger on his belt, the only weapon he carries is his longbow, which looks a bit thicker and sturdier than most bows.
  3. Leaving the kobold and bee hives behind, you carefully make the climb back up to the meadow outside the ruin of Galath's Roost. The humming sounds fade behind you and soon you're back in the ruin and heading down the worn and almost sloped stair down beneath the ruin again, towards the cruel fey pool. As you inch downward however, no sound or speech greats you... OOC Note 1: PC Spells: [For sake of clarity, any reference to cardinal directions in posts will assume that North is Top of Map as posted, unless a Compass Rose is visible.]
  4. Morn Tallstag AC: 15 HP: 7/7 Morn follows along, his weapon drawn and eyes open for danger. OOC
  5. Jessie nods her assent to making one more attempt to bypass the water devil who nearly killed Rodin yesterday, but personally feels that pinning the acid spitter to the bottom of the pool is much more likely to succeed. Nonetheless, the Halfling was small and not in charge, so that was that. Whispering to the others, the rogue says, "If we're doing this, then let me lead the way like usual when I scout forward at the front edge of our torch light." Quietly moving slightly ahead of the others with her loaded short bow in hand, the diminutive burglar watches and listens for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual in the immediate area as she carefully leads the group to the water devil, stopping short of its chamber to organize the meet-and-greet! Jessie's Mind N/A OOC Free Action: Swift Action: Move Equivalent Action: Standard Action: Move: Full Round Action: Jessie Tosscobble III's AppearanceJessie is small standing at 2 foot 8 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. As such, the lass intentionally keeps her brown hair long to cover her halfling features, which allows the rogue to pass herself off as a small humanoid or even young human or half-elven child when convenient or necessary. Dressed dark purple clothing, which is overlaid with attractive black leather accoutrements, Jessie keeps the paraphernalia of her 'profession' secreted upon her person, and especially the authorities, except when in use. Her friendly blue eyes and warm, sincere smile are disarming and allow the lass to paint a picture of a young girl who is completely unintimidating by all appearances, an assumption often made by others which suits her well and which she actively cultivates. To promote this look of youth or innocence, most of Jessie's weapons, alchemical doodads, pack, and other equipment are kept hidden under her clothing and also by her large heavy dark green cloak. CONTINUING EFFECTS: None
  6. If I don't hear otherwise shortly, will assume you're all heading back down the stair in ruin with Rodin taking the lead...
  7. Wood Elf, Ranger If someone else wants to negotiate with the thing then by all means, please give it a try. I admit I hold a grudge too. After all, it attacked first. I was merely walking past it. But I have realized that as things stand right now, I do not think this group can manage to defeat it. So other means of getting past it must be taken. 8. Bochs (BlackHammer) Shield Dwarf, Paladin "Mayhaps you might no be the best one to be talking to the sprite?" growled Bochs, "He might'in be holdin' a grudge..." OOC OOC stuff AppearanceMeet Bochs, the Shield dwarf with a name as strong as his spirit. Standing slightly taller than his peers, he commands attention with his well-muscled physique and meticulously maintained beard, armor, and equipment. A captivating detail that catches the eye is the small, glimmering adamantium medallion adorning his neck, proudly displaying the symbol of Moradin. This precious relic holds immense sentimental value, as it was one of the two items Bochs received after the tragic loss of his parents during a perilous trade mission fromthe Glen. The second item, a remarkable dwarven Warhammer, is a cherished family heirloom passed down from his father. Bochs carries these tokens with him, a testament to his resilience and unwavering determination.
  9. Jessie frowns when Rodin says that returning to town to buy supplies was both a defeat and a disgrace! Good thing to have Rhody here to keep these things straight, I thought it was just a day long shopping trip was all, the tiny Halfling thinks to herself. I had no idea. Thereafter, she nods her head affirmatively when Rodin also expresses his desire to remain longer to sweet talk the water-devil this time in an attempt to negotiate a safe way by the acid-spitting critter. Smiling broadly, the diminutive rogue says sincerely, "Maybe it likes honey, which we could trade for safe passage." "I sure do," she adds with a swooning grin at the thought of warm homemade biscuits slathered in fresh butter and sweet clover honey without realizing that her suggestion was likely of no help whatsoever since the group had just retreated from the bees guarding the sweet nectar! Jessie's Mind N/A OOC Free Action: Swift Action: Move Equivalent Action: Standard Action: Move: Full Round Action: Jessie Tosscobble III's AppearanceJessie is small standing at 2 foot 8 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. 10. Wood Elf, Ranger Before I decide to admit defeat and return to town in disgrace, I want to try getting past the fey creature in the water again. This time I am going to try being nice. I will apologize for my previous actions and do a little groveling, from a safe distance, and see if we can come to some agreement where it will let us past its home and down that last passage. If that fails then I agree to return to town so you can spend your money on supplies. It is clear that he does not want to return to town. Mostly because he does not want to leave his family heirloom behind in the hands of kobolds and partly because he has no money to replace his bow or to even get a melee weapon to use. OOC Elven Lowlight vision, so he can see 40' as if full light rather than the normal 20 of the torch. Will take 10 on Spot and Listen checks for a total of 15 each when not in combat. 11. Jessie frowns when the group's last hope of exploring the complex, without having to face a fearsome enemy of some sort or another, is further thwarted by the reality of the age of the ruins, but it was not much different than the tiny Halfling had expected. Thus, when Aeruiel again logically recommends going to town, the diminutive rogue nods her head affirmatively and admits, "Yes, that probably would be a good idea. I wish we had found a wee bit of coin to spend, however." Continuing, Jessie says, "Digging supplies would be good. Plus, if it's cheap, we might be able to find something to cover the small pool below that would trap the acid-spitting creature just long enough for us to quickly move past it's home deeper into the complex." "Maybe chicken wire, lead weights and canvas? Sink it right down on the critter and run past!" Jessie's Mind N/A OOC Free Action: Swift Action: Move Equivalent Action: Standard Action: Move: Full Round Action: Jessie Tosscobble III's AppearanceJessie is small standing at 2 foot 8 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. 12. Aeruiel Moonshadow Half-Moon Elf Barbarian from Ashabenford Aeruiel looks at the rubble blocking their path and says "I guess going back to town to get some proper tools would be a good idea now, yes?" She had suggested it earlier and hopes her companions will take her up on the suggestion now. OoC She has no exploration tools with her. How about everyone else? What's in your bags? AppearanceFemale half-elf, age 17, blonde, blue eyes, fair skin, 5'-7" tall weight about 125 lbs. She is described as a willful and free spirited young woman, who likes playing pranks, and flies into fits of rage when bullied.
  13. After a few moment of searching, Rodin comes up short with any sign of tracks at the entrance to the bee hive. With no other alternative proposed, you backtrack into the narrow corridor behind the crack in the wall in the entry corridor and move towards the rubble choked end of the corridor. An examination of the rubble reveals a couple of worn stairs that likely once led upwards but they are blocked with rubble. You find the rubble all stuck fast. Aside from a face full of dirt and rock dust you're unlikely to find much more here without proper equipment for digging and/or Art to remove or bypass the rubble. OOC Note 1: Search Checks if you desire. PC Spells: [For sake of clarity, any reference to cardinal directions in posts will assume that North is Top of Map as posted, unless a Compass Rose is visible.]
  14. Here is a Nature check to see if he knows anything useful.
  15. The bees seem to be flitting all about the hive, going about their work tending to the hive and packing away pollen they’ve brought from elsewhere. There is no distinction between honey bees and hornets when it comes to giant bees, they are their own breed, giant bees. These ones clearly have a hive full of honey cells. Knowledge (Nature) might reveal more about giant bees, but for all intents, they seem to behave more like honey bees than hornets, so far as you can tell by observation only.
  16. Quick question, are the bees all working on one side of the cavern or does the hive seem to be all around the cavern. Thinking if they are on one side then we might be able to stick to the other side and move on by them without disturbing them. And it ends up I have another question too. Are these honey bees or hornets? The picture looks more like a hornet, but you mentioned us smelling honey which would mean honey bees. I ask because both react differently. Honey bees are less aggressive unless you attack them or their hive. Hornets will attack if you get too close to their nest. They are very territorial.
  17. A reminder to all that when not in danger, you may Take 10 or Take 20 on many skill checks. To keep the game moving and ensure optimal results, I highly encourage you to keep this in mind, especially at lower levels.
  18. Our posts seem to mesh. Rodin is checking for sign/clues. Simultaneously we can think if there is possibly another path. Could be a total dead end. Who knows?
  19. Wood Elf, Ranger No!. They are just minding their own business. As long as we don't do anything threatening we should be fine. Let me look for signs of the kobolds going this way. He squats down and checks the ground for signs of the kobold passage. OOC Elven Lowlight vision, so he can see 40' a if full light rather than the normal 20 of the torch. 20. Jessie once again stops and freezes in place when she hears more bees buzzing in the other corridor as well, silently wishing that the group would have found a way around their nest without disturbing their natural habitat. When Bochs mentions that somebody is telling us that we need to face the bees, the tiny Halfling thinks for a moment and then whispers, "There might be one more possible way around the hive." "At the end of the ghost hallway is a pile of rubble. When we first encountered the Kobolds, some attacked from that direction," she reveals to the newcomers in the same hushed tone of voice. "While not necessarily likely, it is possible that a path or tunnel exists that would allow us to bypass the pile of rubble and explore the area beyond," the small rogue adds. "If so, who knows where it might lead, including a way around the obstacles which we have faced in this place so far," the burglar concludes before resuming her watch over the group as the 'Tall-ies' make decisions. 22. Doing an about turn, you move slowly through the narrow tunnel and cross to the tunnel on the opposite side, moving up it single file after Rodin. The west tunnel is also narrow as the east. Several feet down, it opens up into a larger, wider cavern where you are greeted with a familiar sight and scent. Rodin counts roughly six large bees flitting by busily, seemingly either unaware or disinterested in you, for now... 23. Jessie listens to Rodin and nods affirmatively as she repockets the tindertwig in her cloak and quietly backs off from the hive, all the while keeping her eyes focused on the rear flank with her fancy short bow at the ready if the plan to peacefully withdraw fails. She will continue to move quietly and slowly covering everyone bigger as the group slowly withdraws to a safe place where they can regroup and explore in a new direction. Once the party is headed on a new path, Jessie will stay right behind Rodin, her bow at the ready, and her eyes and ears focused ahead.
