  1. It is with a not isignificant amount of satisfaction that Night Hood sees the eyes of her enemies widen in fear as the weapon transforms into her hands. Her fire cleanses it, burning away any impurities and markings. And it, in turn, shall burn away these mercenaries. One of them is quicker than the other. He was quicker before as well, when they engaged in melee. He rushes his comrade, pushing both of them to the side just as Brianna fires. A bolt of fire flies from the gun, and explodes against a wall. The alley shakes from the impact. A frustrated growl echoes somewhere deep inside Brianna's mind. The men are still alive. Alive, but not unscathed. The faster one has burn marks on his fingers and shoulders, the other one similar marks on his back. Nearby, Declan is vaguely aware his shoulder will be killing him tomorrow morning. If he sees tomorrow. Too many rolls to the side and he is not as young as he once was. And this damn guy is very good with a gun. But Declan is not a bad shot either. And he has rolled fAr away from the bystanders that he doesn't have to worry about any further casualties. He raised his gun again and unloaded a hail of bullets against the man. Then something curious happens. Le'Strange hears Theo's cries from somewhere behind him. Then he feels the kid's power washing over him. It doesn't affect him, but he can feel the sheer, raw pressure of it as it passes him and hits the remaining mercenaries. The effect is immediate. ''Cops are coming! Retreat. Retreat!'' One of them shouts and the others disengage, forming a unit. Then one them draws something from a vest pocket. A grenade. He throws it on the ground between his group and Declan's crew. The cylinder spins, filling the area with smoke. And just like that, they are gone. Then a voice carries over the rain and silence. ''Guys?'' says Allan. ''I got one. Should we uh... should we bail?''
  2. There isn't a specific list, but usually the narration narrows it down for you. For example, in this case Declan is using his gun, so it will have to be something related to that. Maybe you wound the other guy or maybe you scare him off. It's up to you. The only catch is, the severity of the status should be equal to it's tier. The higher the tier (max 6), the more severe the status. There is no Blasted to Oblivion - 1 for example. Tier 1 is the most minor of the statuses, so it contains conditions such as Dizzy - 1, Grazed Shoulder - 1 or Bruised - 1. Regarding your roll, I think you can invoke another tag or two in your face danger roles. I'd certainly allow premonitions and reality bending. These would up your power and roll to a 9 which means you would get a status one tier lower. As for Declan's statuses, unless I misremember, he only has Shaken - 2 so far. I don't think that applies here. Important: When facing danger to avoid getting a status, it does not affect your power. If you fail the roll, then you gain the status and it applies from that point on.
  3. You get to impose a 1 tier status to the other gunman. Since this not a 10+ roll, he gets to impose a status on you in retaliation. Roll a face danger in order to avoid a gunshot wound - 3. Blasted is a bit strong for a tier 1 status. Maybe ''Singed'' or ''Burned''? Right you are. Sorry, I just looked straight at the roll.
  4. These tags work great. What's your goal with Go Toe To Toe? Trying to hurt the other gunslinger or something else? If you are trying to hurt him, subtract 1 due to his body armor tag. Attention is necessary for improving your themes. Each time you mark 3 attention to a theme, you get to pick an improvement for that theme.
  5. That would do it, the Boys will attempt to flee. I would like you to describe how the power manifests here, and then I'll post an update with how the Boys try to make their way out. Before the Boys try to flee: still gets to apply the status. still gets one action
  6. I think its safe to say the police are on their way yeah. The boys have berserk 2 but also a scared of dying -3 from Theo's previous hallucination. +1 from size factor, so Theo rolls with +4 total. If you roll well, that should be enough to max them out and make the survivors flee. Also, can everyone give me a count of the attention they marked for their weakness tags? , you get to impose a 1 tier status on your two opponents.
  7. Sorry, forgot you were waiting a reply on this. Yep, this sounds like a Change the Game to impose a status. News paper prophecies seems like it fits. Any other tags you want to invoke?
  8. The boys also have Body Armor, that applies here, so that's an extra -1. Are you attacking both? If so the size factor will apply and there will be an additional -1.
  9. You can attempt to remove or reduce the status with a Change the Game. Each point of juice you spend reduces the status by one, so to fully remove it, you need at least two relevant tags. I'd say that his rugged and authoritative tags give him enough discipline to try and shake off the status, without having it apply for this particular move. However the status will apply at least until the next Downtime (you can choose to reduce it then) if he tries to do anything else. Declan's rift powers are about dreams. Iirc his exact mythos is supposed to be either Morpheus or the Dream Time from Indigenous Australian culture, but really any dream related mythos could work. Its up to you. I can see his reality bending being a really versatile tag and his premonitions could be used both offensively and defensively.
  10. Declan moves sideways, staying ahead of the shots the man fires at him. Parts of the wall burst behind him as the bullets pierce old bricks. This is bad. The mercenary is hell bent on emptying his entire magazine on him, there minimal cover, and Declan is getting close to the bystanders. People scream. He fires again, but the shot goes wide. The mercenary rolls to the side, giving Declan precious moments -a breath or two maybe, no more- to try and shift course. The flash of another shot lights up the alley and a bullet flies next his cheek, blocking his move, pushing him back towards the crowd. Had it been a little to the right... More bullets follow and the screams get louder. Le'Strange grits his teeth, raises his gun, takes a step... and slips. He falls down, bullets fly just past his hair, and suddenly the screams stop. There is a splash as something heavy drops on the mud behind him. For one moment, Declan can hear clearly everything that goes in the alley. The mercenary looks behind Le'Strange and murmurs ''...Shit''. On the other side of the alley, Allan wrestles with a frenzied mercenary. A cut runs up his forearm and torn sleeve. He manages a kick, pushing his attacker against the wall, and throws his hands over the man's hand that holds the axe. Gold spreads immediately, fusing flesh, metal and brick. He staggers back and runs a finger over his wound, covering it in a delicate sheet of gold. Close by, Night Hood leaped up in the air, dodging both shots and landing between the two men. Both of them left their shotguns fall to the side, and one of them was fast enough to draw his axe. Brianna levelled her stolen gun at his direction, but he was faster. He angled the axe and pulled the shotgun off mark. His partner took advantage of the situation and hacked at Night Hood. Brianna managed to jump back and avoid the worst, but she felt the blade of the axe cut her shoulder. Back at the entrance, Theo has another blank sheet in hand. OOC Declan barely escaped death from pure luck and is pretty sure a bystander just died from a bullet meant for him. He gets the status Shaken - 2 Brianna gets the status Wounded Shoulder - 2

  12. The man screams as Brianna slices as his leg and falls down. Night Hood has a moment to savour the strike, but the feeling is cut short as another one tackles her and they roll away from the wounded man. Brianna rams a boot in the man's face, pushing him away but he seems barely winded and both combatants jump into their feet. Brianna has a new weapon now, dragged from mid and trash: the shotgun of the man she just killed. Night Hood feels her lips form a savage smile as her flame engulfs the weapon. The men face her with their weapons but before they can react shots start echoing from the side. One of the Boys takes cover and starts firing back at Declan, while Allan jumps at another thug from the shadows. Gold glimmers under his coat and Brianna hears a metallic sound as his makeshift armour manages to repel a throwing axe. The teamaker awkwardly throws a fist at the mercenary, who blocks easily. However, his hand immediately starts turning into gold, locking into place. The man looks at that and shrieks in horror. The two remaining Boys waste no more time. They level their weapons at her and fire.
  13. Right now Declan doesn't have that status, but is in danger of getting it. You roll 2d6 and you can apply any power and story tags/statuses that help Declan avoid the shot. If you miss, you take the status and it will apply from that point onwards in any related moves. If you roll 7-9 you take a status one tier lower. If you roll 10+ you avoid it completely and if you roll 12+ you get bonus stuff.
  14. You manage to achieve your goal and drive one of the attackers away from Brianna. However his attention is now focused on you. I'll need you to roll Face Danger against gun wound-3 as he pulls out a pistol and starts returning fire. I'll need you to roll face Danger against Axe wound-3 two times. Current status of the fight: Brianna is engaged in close combat with 2 Boys Allan is fighting Boy 3 Declan is in a gunfight with Boy 4. Theo next to Declan, hidden by the wall next to the door.

Its in page 250 of the original rulebook but basically for each point of juice you can do one of the following: -Create a story tag -Burn a power tag or a story tag -Give or reduce a status (one tier per point of Juice) On a 10+, you also get the following extra options: • Increase the area or the targets. • Make the effect ongoing • Hide the effect • Something else that you come up with, subject to MC approval. However, anything that you do must fit with the method you used. Can't use the ability to speak every language to heal someone for example.
  16. So far Theo is not exposed, but Allan will enter the fray and engage one of the men aiming for Brianna. I think Declan using his guns to drive back or "herd" combatants would be a go toe to toe. I would invoke "Dark and stormy night" and if you have more than one target, take a further -1 from the size factor.

  18. Heavy bleeding sounds fine. Creating a weapon would be one or more story tags, depending on how you do it and how well you roll. It could be something like Sanctified rust pipe or a flaming broomstick. Statuses are always some kind of ongoing buff or debuff that affects a pc or an npc, if that makes sense. Everything else is represented by a tag.
  19. EDIT: What kind of status do you want to impose? Face danger is a reaction. It triggers when you are threatened or about to take a status. And yes you get to have an action now :) What's your plan for Changing the Game? On turn order, City of Mist is different than Dnd style games. For pbp purposes however, I also prefer letting everyone do an action per turn. I don't count movement as an action by itself, unless the distance is far enough. If someone wants to do something complex that would require several rolls then its a case by case basis on how long it takes.
  20. Since the Boys are a collective with a size factor 1 and you are targetting all of them, this reduces the tier of your status by 1. So the status will be ''Afraid of Dying 2''. For reference, the Boys (4 members) currently have the following statuses and tags: Berserk - 2 Tactical formation - 2 Afraid of Dying -2 Body armour
  21. Insane roll. Since you have Dynamite, you get to pick: -Reflect the attack back to the attacker (Apply an appropriate status of equal power back at them) -Enhance your ddefence and gain an appropriate 1-tier status.

  23. Outside Brianna does her work quick and efficiently. It is a relatively simple matter to feint, bypass and strike. These guys may be trained but she had a goddess raging inside her. One down, four to go. The counterstrike of the nearest one is clumsy. Its easy to block the axe and- A gunshot near her foot causes her to stumble, lose her balance. A kick on her good arm does the rest and "Maria" flies off into the dark, the flame fizzling out before the mud swallows up the knife. Damn. Screams fill the alley now, people that so far were just observing now scramble to get back inside the bar. The men are all rushing her now, cursing, yelling, promising a slow and painful death. The flashes of lightning make them seem different. For a moment they look like Old Norsemen, dressed in Roman armour. Inside The chaos helps Declan out, takes the focus away from his veiled questions and the balding man seems all too eager for some help here. Sammy Jefferson Jr is his name, and he remembers the file mentioning he is the owner of the club. Declan believes him when he mumbles that he doesn't understand what the hell is going on or why these men are here. But when he asks about Darnell, the man gives him a side glance. A regular customer. He run into him and the skinhead having words and then Darnell dropped dead. First time he has heard anything like that. And Declan knows. He is lying. He knows something about Darnell Fox or the hooded man. Something there made him tense. Before he has time to formulate a response though a gunshot sounds from the back. Then screams as people burst into the room. "They are killing each other!" His eyes meet Theo and Allan and all think the same thing. Brianna.
