  1. Voile Domain Soline, Queen of Wolves (Dip 6/Mil 7/Ind 5/Fth 4/Int 3) Following Sabine's death, her daughter Soline assumes the duties of queen and commander as a battlefield promotion. Upon her victorious return to the misty isle, the Conclave assents after little debate and a token, almost performative objection from the silver-cloaked master of merchants. Soline is an aged leader with the most experience in matters of war, and as world peace is unlikely, the veteran valkyrie is the natural choice. Brigitte is selected from among the valkyries to command the Wolf Maidens (and replaces Soline as a Hero). [Industry] Buyout 207-TP2 Cedar from VVV (11) - [Military 5] Recruit Hero (9): Tristan "The Sea Hawk" - A legendary ranger emerges, peerless in archery and a brilliant guerilla tactician. [Military] Recruit 2 Units via Fortress - New Unit Count: 8 Land, 5 Navy [Diplomacy 5] Establish Cultural Identity (Dueling) - Though death in battle is a great honor and the natural end for a valkyrie, the new queen's rigorous doctrine demands brutal martial efficiency among her champions: to seek out and kill enemy commanders with haste, rather than to rely on more traditional skirmishing. [Diplomacy] VOI Offers Terms to the Rising Sun - Victorious, though saddened by the heavy cost of war, Soline delivers the following terms to the Rising Sun remnant in the hopes of forestalling another war. The Sun Borne must accept exile from Ana Kai, or surrender to indefinite house arrest with proper accommodations befitting her status. Rising Sun forces disband. Fighters will be granted amnesty and need not surrender their weapons. Voilese loyalists will be installed as regional nobility per Siobhan's agreement a decade prior. As the legitimate heir to Siobhan, the Sun Borne may appoint an immediate successor from her bloodline as leader of Ana Kai and the new marquis under Domain rule. Myrkran in the region will be resettled elsewhere in the Domain. (VOI requests MYR's assistance and pays 1 Favor) Bright's Glow faithful will not be persecuted, though they must commit to not proselytizing on the Isle du Voile, and preaching on the streets of Strange Port will be banned. (VOI will not convert or purge in 211) [Non-Action] Generate 1 Treasure with 5 TPs [Non-Action] Resist Buyouts and Conversions Record Keeping Technology: Tall Sails, Masonry, Animal Husbandry Translations: Yon Vaire Bonuses: +1 Exploration, +1 resist Raid/Sack Units: 6 [Valkyries, Utui Exiles] Naval Units: 5 [Sea Rangers, Jarl Hringr's Vikings] Treasure: 1 Valkyries I am already dead. Any deviation from this norm is temporary and will soon be remedied. This logic extends to the time prior to life, and even a gestating fetus is taken to be dead until the moment of the quickening. Therefore, your life is a reprieve granted by your mother and sustained by your sisters. That sisterhood is the only thing that makes you any different from a kit ripped from its warren by a she-wolf with whelps to feed. Far better to be like the wolf. 3. Region 218 - Ile de Reglisse Description: An idyllic, temperate island with few obvious scars left by prior civilizations. Much of the interior is old-growth forest with trees too gnarled to be suitable for masts, and a rocky soil unable to support much beyond the twisted alders. The coastline is desolate, lacking most forms of vegetation beyond moss. Where black stone has worn away to sandy beaches, the swift-moving water is still too frigid for recreational swimming. Winters and summers are both mild. People: Previous inhabitants of the island were wiped out by the Vandals, leaving no written records and few artifacts of any significance to the present Nord and Voilese settlers. Forgotten shrines dot the coastline, with stone figures in the likeness of a horse-fish hybrid and a shallow basin for burning oil -- an effort to appease the wrath of or gain the favor of the sea god, one supposes. Transplants from the Nord lands live here now, mostly highland shepherds and coastal fishermen. Slash-and-burn has left much of the topsoil too barren for staple crops, the last desperate play of the previous inhabitents in their final years of slow starvation. Voilese supply ships are a common sight, running to and from the daunting seaside fortress known as the Wolves' Den or the Lupercal. Resource: Barely fit for habitation by shepherds and fishermen, the island seems devoid of any exploitable natural resources spare for the wild Licorice, which has some dubious medical benefit when taken as an antiemetic or sleep aid. Region 213 - Pays-Bas Description: By the "low country", the Voilese mean the entire stretch of coastline between the western mountains and the turn of the northern peninsula which marked the territory of the Nords, and by extension the Domain. The region is dominated by vast, flat meadows stretching a hundred miles inland from the sea. Apart from the cultivated woods and the odd diminutive stream to interrupt a hike, the low lands are actually so boring as to disorient travelers and send them miles off course. People: The Vergers inhabit the Pays-Bas, known to the Voilese as "the people who keep orchards" due to the widespread and admirable arboriculture practiced among all tribes of the region. Contrasting with the rough seafaring Nord folk, Verger tribes are known to be peaceful and unskilled in matters of war. As for what passes for governance, each tribe is led by a trio of matriarchs, usually the eldest and respective best at oration, medicine, and woodworking. Tribes likewise each have a unique variety of apple, and a patron minor goddess thought to dwell within each grove, something like a dryad. Resource: Apples. The locals are quite proud of them, and there are several cultivated varieties, but they are just apples.
  4. Voile Domain Sabine, Queen of Veils (Dip 10/Mil 10/Ind 8/Fth 2/Int 3) Otherwise content to leave the bloody zealots to their own devices, the Voilese cannot abide atrocities against the friendly Mykran. Queen Sabine demands the Sun-borne's amassing force remain on their side of the mountains and desist threats against the Rithaki, or face swift retaliation to obviate future conflict. 8. Voile Domain Sabine, Queen of Veils (Dip 8/Mil 9/Ind 7/Fth 2/Int 3) Standing stones are raised to memorialize the battle, honoring the Omega and Zavestra who fought with the veiled folk. Thankfully, they most competent mad dog has been eliminated, leaving them without leadership.   [Diplomacy] Press Claim on 213 (Automatic Success) - Similar enough to the Northmen already subordinate to Voilese sovereignty, a number of clan leaders journey to the misty isle to pledge their fealty to Queen Sabine, elevating them to the rank of count (or jarl in the Nord tongue.) 10. Voile Domain Sabine, Queen of Veils (Dip 6/Mil 7/Ind 7/Fth 2/Int 3) Earlier depictions of pine cones on standing stones is the cause of much semiotic consternation. "Why would the Raven King be harvesting a pine cone? You can't eat pine cones!" one druid insisted, before claiming the item on the famous relief was actually an artichoke. Debate continues about how edible pine nuts really are. Druids have been banned from carrying the customary thyrsi until the matter is resolved.   [Diplomacy] Colonize 218 (13, Success) - While few of the veiled folk are willing to leave the safety of the sacred isle to eek out a living, sea rangers succeed in establishing a foothold in the new land. More numerous Nords soon follow, the allure of unclaimed grazing land outweighing the vague threat of vikings. People are heartened by news of the Omega's victory. [Diplomacy] Diplomatic Mission E of 218 (12, Success) - The soft-spoken veiled folk sail bearing gifts. Also spears because there are damned vikings in these waters. [Military] Grant Protectorate Status to 213 - Following a frosty refusal of the royal family's alliance-building marriage proposals some decade prior, the Voilese are likewise slow to respond to the distressed mainlanders after the viking sack. At length, with the lion's share of the continent's warriors committed to mutual defense, the Voilese deign to include the western coastline in their naval patrols, and station a valkyrie regiment within the petty chiefdom until a more lasting political arrangement can be reached. Voilese silk is available at a ruinous price, though the port's main attraction is the assemblage of rare goods plucked from the entire span of Taer Mojr's coastline by the intrepid seafarers. 13. Voile Domain Sabine, Queen of Veils (5/7/2/2/3) A popular myth persists that the veiled folk are unaware of the male role in reproduction, believing instead that children are generated spontaneously and asexually. While it is true that Voilese children are raised communally, and it is often impossible to be certain of their biological father, the myth can be traced back to a translation error between a flirtatious (and brave) Nord and a Valkyrie. What was taken to mean, "I can make my own children without you," would be better understood as, "I'd rather **** myself." In a similar vein, Queen Sabine expresses some confusion as to the concept of monogamy. If she can take one husband, she suggests there is nothing stopping her from taking several. Prospects of diplomatic marriages are not forthcoming.   [Industry] Buyout Open TP of Cedar Wood in 207, TP1 (9, Failure) - Negotiations to secure timber rights are ongoing and hilariously inept. I glimpsed the broken silhouette of whatever damned horned thing their quarry was as it turned to ash on their pyre. I didn't ask what it was, but the ranger were in good spirits after the deed was done. They traded me a good stone knife and some jots of malachite for my beer." I've never seen one's face, but I've heard the lilting battle cries. Two hundred shrieking women with long ash wood spears and no trace of fear. They're dead already, they say. Just waiting to be called home by the Raven King." [Diplomacy] Diplomatic Mission to 213 - Emissaries of the nobility arrive along the coast, seeking out the local chieftains with gifts of mead.
