I would say that doing as much rolling on Baldr instead of OGMW would be in everyone's best interest (especially in helping the devs test things out), but having back-up plans like a dice thread in OGMW, especially for combat-related things, might not be a bad plan.

Decided against my drill lancer idea - I was struggling to find the right fluff to make it feel right. Instead, I went back to one of my classics, who hasn't show up in a very long time - Nanaya Yukito. Might as well embrace my weeb side, and use the power of god and anime to strike down my foes with glorious nippon steel folded a thousand times. 😂

Am I missing an application deadline in this? Didn't see it obvious anywhere, and don't want to start down the long and potentially very dark path of building a l15 gestalt spheres character if the deadline is looming. No-one needs their hobby to add that much stress.
July 10th, according to the calendar. So a bit more than 2 weeks from now.
Remember - it's all about the fluff over the crunch in this scenario.
(I gotta give Ark the props for actually using the calendar - I would've forgotten about it LOL)

@Arklytte - May I suggest you give us an example of how the Origin stuff works out? I'm trying to make heads or tails out of the rules, both yours and the wiki's, and I'm slowly going cross-eyed. And you know me - I usually can wrap my head around almost anything.
I chalk it up to poor organization of wiki, and crummy terminology choices.

Is all the spheres wiki available? No akashic classes, but what about pact magic? Is the material from city of 7 seraphs available? High aspirant seems even stronger giving 5 feats for the measly inherent bonuses it gives.
This I already know the answer to - Nope! It's just the Spheres of Power/Might/Champions content. Furthermore, Ark made a distinct point to ban all the City of 7 Seraphs content, obvious balance reasons (also because it uses content from banned material as well).

Hello, hello, two questions:
1) i'm a bit confused about the add, on one hand this game has one of the most sick powerful character creation rules i've ever seen, with all of this stuff one can build characters who are gods and you know it 😅 but then the game-add discourage game breaking characters, i understand there is a difference between being powerful and game-breaking but it would help to have some kind of benchmarks, i already see that there are no specific limits on skills given the dc 80 on some epic skill checks, but what about the rest? i think having an idea of whats low and whats high for the various key numbers(defenses, saves, attacks, spell dc ecc) would help form a party that is somewhat balanced with each other.
I can help with this one, in part because I've been in many Ark games in the past.
Arklytte prefers to have PCs that feel powerful from the get-go. In part because it's easier to deal with PCs that are stronger than expected (because you can always give the monsters bigger numbers) than the other way around (because TPKs are a risk in this case), and because that can be a lot of fun for many folks. Furthermore, the original campaign from which this is based on had the PCs start at level 15 as well (although not gestalt - that's an Ark preference there), and from what I remember of that campaign, you'll want that kind of power. As for the skill numbers - I think he's posting that for reference, in case some characters can actually swing those numbers. Some of that is achievable at this level without too much effort
In short, this meme:
Part the second: Benchmarks
Ark won't give you benchmarks to aim for, because he balances after characters are selected. In fact, I'm willing to bet that he's not even going to look at actual character sheets until selections are made, because that's not how he makes his picks. Instead, the method that he's used (and I've made use of as well) is to have all the selected players post their relevant stats, and compare between them - if someone outshines in too many areas, they may be asked to tone it down. Or maybe someone will get a bit of help to bring them up to speed if possible. It usually works itself out one way or another, though. So don't sweat it for now - focus on the fluff of your character.
-
Currently, I'm considering something along the lines of this:
Show this
but I'm trying to figure out how I'll build it. On one hand, I could easily use Technician (it's a very obvious choice) - could even use Adamantine Scientist archetype if you're okay with me refluffing the glove as a lance. The fluff is of course, the more important part of that.
The other route is Armorist (inventioneer) - summoned gear cannot be dispelled by AMF after its been summoned.
From there, it's just a matter of figuring out what to pair either with...

Having fun with those eye-puns, huh?

The wagon stopped abruptly, jolting the demon slayer awake from his power nap. He didn't need the rest, but he certainly still enjoyed the act of sleeping, even if for a little bit. As he raised his head, he instantly noticed the reasoning for his awakening and sighed. "It had to be bandits. Okay, I got this." The swordsman climbed out of the wagon, taking his sword with him.
Yukito walked up to the front of the caravan of merchant wagons. He heard the snickers of bandits that surrounded them from the tree-lined road. This was almost routine for him…
"Okay you little buggers, here's the deal. If you all just walk away, I won't kill you. I also recommend turning your lives around, as this is a very bad and dangerous profession. Especially when you encounter someone like me."
There were more snickers, and even their leader laughed out loud. “And you think you alone is enough for all these boys?” The man raised both arms, one holding a battle axe and the other a heavy shield, and vaguely gestured around to the many bandits that had surrounded the caravan.
Yukito merely used his thumb to push his sword slightly out of its scabbard. “Oh, I’m clearly overkill in this situation. Last chance. Especially if you value your head…”
“You arrogant shit… OPEN F-” The boss didn’t get to finish his command. Suddenly there was a cut across his neck. The only thing he saw was the swordsman flicking blood off his blade and slowly replacing his blade into his scabbard, before his vision fell to the dirt ground and stopped. Several other bandits that were in clear sight fell too, although most still had their heads attached to their necks.
A few more bandits appeared, this time actually firing crossbows and even a spell. The swordsman raised his hand and effortlessly smacked each projectile away, as though he was waving away flies from his face. He could hear profanities as the bandits began to flee.
After removing the few corpses from the road, the carvaan continued its journey. Yukito once more returned to the carriage he was riding before. The merchant that drove it gave him a look, but said nothing. He knew that look all too well - the swordsman scared others. What he could do, even without the power of magic, psionics, or even mystics, was incredible and terrible. Normal folks would be right to be scared of him.
The swordsman rested his eyes, but could not sleep. Whenever he had to take the lives of humanoids, it left a bad taste in his mouth. He would rather fight demons and monsters than take on bandits. So he had a smoke instead, watching the smoke float off into the distance as the wagon moved on.
That evening, the carvaan reached a town. Many of the merchants and their staff went to the tavern to unwind after a long ride (and a stressful bandit event). A few bought beers for Yukito as thanks for his work earlier.
One of the women in the carvaan had a bit too much to drink and tried to flirt with Yukito. It was clumsy and obvious, but half of the merchants were too tanked to care. It was obvious to the swordsman what her goal was, but he turned her down and returned to the wagons. He wasn’t even slightly buzzed.
He stood out there that night, watching the stars. It felt like eternity.
Rain stalled the carvaan out. The roads were too muddy to proceed by wagon. As much as the swordsman wanted to finish the protection job, he had to reach the Monster Hunter Lodge sooner than later. It was a major summons, after all. He threw on a heavy coat before venturing into the rain storm, towards the mountains. Yukito didn’t even take half of the coin he was offered, only taking a bit for travel expenses down the line.
A troll laid on the ground, its body slowly burning in the rain. Yukito flicked the blood off of his blade before returning it to his scabbard. He pulled out a cigarette from his pocket case, using the flaming corpse to light it, then took a seat on a larger rock. The small gathering of goblins scattered in fear, understanding that they stood no chance against the human that stood before them.
He looked up to the rain coming down, letting the water run down his face. It felt refreshing.
The rain had finally stopped as Yukito had gotten past the mountain. He could’ve flown over it, in hindsight, but traveling by ground allowed him to observe more of the world around him. He wanted to see everything he could. He had to live on, for his family’s sake, and they would’ve wanted him to be happy.
Yet he still had work to do. The world wasn’t going to be a better place without his help, at least in the short run. Monsters still plagued the world, be it here or his homeland…

Yukito Nanaya
"Just a wandering spellsword looking for a challenge..."
Appearance
A human standing at roughly 6'1", with a strong athletic build and a pale complexion, Yukito looks a little out of place, but not drastically so. His dark wavy shoulder length hair is frequently a mess, and is often pulled back into a ponytail to keep it out of his face. He has amber eyes, a sign of something else within. Several tattoos adorn his body, most of which are easily concealed under clothing. He frequently smells of tobacco, which isn't surprising given his chain-smoking habits.
Since coming to these lands, the demon slayer has taken up the more common garb of the land, rather than stick to his traditional yukata of his homeland. This is usually a long sleeve shirt, with the sleeves rolled up, a vest, and a pair of slacks - clothing commonly seen among duelists and swashbucklers that have forgon armor. Embroidered on the back of his vest is Amaterasu's holy symbol.
Personality
Yukito is very much an overconfident man, in part because he has the skills to deliver what he promises. Which is usually death to those who would oppose him, or threaten the general populace. His frequent trash talk and taunting is one part tactical mind-games and two parts his own amusement. He almost always has a cigarette in his mouth, even in a fight. Despite this, Yukito is a man with honor - granting quarter to those who request it, parlaying when possible, and avoiding drawing his blade unless the situation truly demands it.
When not on the job, Yukito is a very laid back man that enjoys a good book and a good drink. Years ago he took up writing as a hobby, and has written a few books about his adventures. Furthermore, he has become a very skilled cartographer, taking joy in making maps. He's contemplated retiring sometime in the next 5-10 years, so he can travel and explore the world. He also enjoys cooking, although he is not particularly skilled at it.
History
The real story surrounding Yukito is one shrouded in mystery. In part because Yukito loves the extra bit of attention for being cool and mysterious (he is a bit of a dork like that), but also because he just doesn't like talking about it.
In a unknown distant land, Yukito was a slayer of demons and monsters. He worked with the shaman of his land to fight the demonic hordes that plagued his homeland. Like many before him and many after him, Yukito lost his family to demons, in this case his wife and child. But despite his best efforts to eradicate the monsters from his homeland, it was never enough. Worse yet, the demon slayer organization he worked for fell into in-fighting and corruption. At the source of it all was a monster that had taken over the mind of chain of command, which Yukito exposed and barely slew, but not without suffering a mishap nor causalities. The final exchange took the head of the monster, but also resulted in a strange magical implosion, which sucked Yukito into it.
Yukito came to in a strange land, badly injured. The battle had drained him of everything he had and was hanging on by a thread. Thankfully, the demon slayer was discovered by a monster hunter, who helped him recover and get back on his feet. The slayer would join the hunter in a local quest to take on an ogre, as thanks, which would lead to more adventures with other hunters. In the end, Yukito joined up with the Monster Hunter Guild, making good use of their resources to continue his trade as a demon slayer in this new land.
He had considered returning to his homeland after realizing where he had ended up, but the logistics of returning home were too great. Furthermore, the slayer organization had too much in-fighting and corruption with no sign of stopping anytime soon, even with the monster responsible for it slain, and Yukito was far too jaded to deal with that. He had nothing to go back to. So instead, staying in this new land and exploring and traveling while plying his skills seemed like a far better use of his time and energy.
Since then, Yukito has almost broken the Monster Hunter Guild record for most confirmed monster kills in a year in two non-consecutive years, released two books about his adventures and travels, drawn up several regional maps of great detail, and even created a small shrine dedicated to his goddess, Amaterasu, which he tends to when he's not working as a demon slayer.
Faith
Amaterasu - the goddess of the sun
The patron goddess of samurai, demon slayers, and heroic figures in a distant land, Amaterasu represents the sun which burns evil away and brings life to all. She expect honor and bravery from her worshippers, but urges them to not to seek battle unless it's necessary. She also teaches her worshippers to honor and respect their ancestors.
Back in Yukito's homeland, it was believed that he was Amaterasu's chosen for a short while, specifically when he was gathering and leading a revolt against the corrupted Demon Slayers. It may attribute to how he survived that final battle, although the sun goddess hasn't said anything even when asked. But Yukito doesn't know anything about this one way or another - the rumor itself (which appeared some time before his disappearance and persists among the surviving demon slayers) nor Amaterasu's position on it.

Oh hot damn - that's waaaay cleaner. Not very stylish, but I'm okay with that - readability is far more important. I'm sure it can be toyed around as time goes if time/energy allows, but I like this much more than the previous version.

I'm kinda putzing between a handful of games. On the PS4, I'm kinda weakly replaying thru Infamous: Second Son, but I'm not putting any real time into it. On the Switch, I was making my way thru the newest Kirby, and I'm getting closer to the end of the game but kinda got derailed. Meanwhile, now that I have my Steam Deck finally, I'm trying to get back into PC gaming - bouncing between Rogue Legacy 2 and random games that are calling to me (right now, Fallout 4 is calling to me - not sure how long that will last, but I never did finish it...).
In the last few months, I wrapped up the main game of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands (rather enjoyable, if kinda short), finished up the Mass Effect Trilogy finally (never did finish the 3rd game), and have some random JRPGs to cruise thru that I haven't worked up the gumption to start up yet. I may go back to Persona 5 Royal sometime this summer...

So far, I like the dark mocha theme the best. Easy on the eyes, for the most part.
Minor gripe, and I'm sure it's a general dark mode issue, but the various editing tool buttons are too dark. Especially the Fieldset and OOC buttons, but the rest are hard to tell what's what.

I think the Dashed Underline idea is a good one - it's still distinct enough from hyperlinks and standard underlined text, but isn't obtrusive when used in IC text. @bwatford - you got a knack for this sorta thing.
Personally, I don't find the speech bubble to be an issue, but I'm just not used to seeing it, so I tend to miss it. But I haven't been using Baldr much so far, so take that opinion with a grain of salt.
-
Yeah, those look a lot better. Much cleaner. I think the darker outline is good, as it gives a good amount of pop to it (and it'll print cleanly onto other things).

Yep, and we want to have ad posts in a dedicated forum, with the addition of end dates to close them again!
And that would be the best new feature LOL
A lot of folks I suggest MW to get confused by the ads because they're unsure what's open and what's actually effectively closed (but forgotten).

I also voted #2, but honestly, i would abandon the gradient and the emboss - reminds me of the early 2000's when I was dinking around with Photoshop to make my own logos. These days, I think cleaner logos are better. I do like the font thou.

Probably want to include the Baldr New User Guide as well. 🙂
Yes, that would indeed be a very useful link. I've added it in. Obviously the boilerplate will need additional updates to this and that as time goes on and the new forum smell begins to fade LOL
-
I suppose I should actually do my jazz 'round here, as well as the old site.
Currently linking to the old New to PbP thread, as I'm not sure where to link to here yet. Also had to rebuild the links, but that was a quick and easy fix.
Maybe I should find a way to include Harpo or the Chibi-Amy welcome image into the boilerplate welcome? New site means I can improve on the formula, after all....

When you get a hot minute or three, please add 'Lancer' and 'ICON' onto the list. Not a high priority, since I'm not expecting to run either anytime soon, but it would be nice to have those for if/when that happens.
Now excuse me, I have a jar to add a dollar to... LOL

That is being replaced by Pages on here (in your game, added to the bar), which can be set to be GM-only.Ooooooh, that's the purpose of those! That makes sense. I was banging my head against it the other day going "What's even the point of this?" but yeah, that's clicking for me now LOL
Note to self, once things start stabilizing, maybe get a few folks together to write up a guide on forum best practices? I dunno, will have to see how things pan out down the line first.

Character Creation Q&A
in The Hunters
Posted
Ark - I know that Extradimensional Room and Create Demiplane are effectively useless on the island, but what about Manifest Planar Zone?
Manifest Planar Zone basic info
Manifest Planar Zone (space) [DbH]
Prerequisites: Warp sphere, caster level 5th.
You may create an area which mimics the environment of another plane or demiplane of your choice, including one which you have created (chosen when you take this talent). The area lasts for as long as you concentrate (or one minute per caster level if you spend a spell point) and measures one 10-foot cube. You may increase the area by an additional 10-foot cube per 5 caster levels, arranged as you wish so long as the entire area is contiguous. The effects that can be mimicked are as follows (see Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Planar Adventures for rules on these traits). If an effect which is created within the area of this aura leaves the aura, it loses any modifications which it would possess as a result of being in the area.
It's not like I need this for my idea, but I am very curious because it's a funky talent to mess with LOL. Also figured I should bring it up just in case it wasn't considered.
