After getting in with Sandru's caravan and getting paid, she asked for a decent inn where she could get a good meal and hopefully a bath.  She didn't mind being dirty while on the road and bathing in cold rivers didn't scare her either, but in town she preferred the luxury of a hot bath.  Sandru told her to try the Rusty Dragon, telling her that he would drop by later to try and talk her around to go on another trip with him.  She had told him no, but she realised that he would try at least once more to talk her around before he left again.

Moving through the streets quickly, she found the Rusty Dragon quite easily and the smells coming out were promising.  So, she headed in and looked around.

"What can I do for you," asked a halfling behind the bar.

"I would like some breakfast and a bath, please," Darhana asked, "And if I can't find a job immediately, a room for the night would also be very welcome, if you have any available."

Either of those ideas will probably be pretty awesome. Though, correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t think I’ve seen a sneaky type character in any of the other applications yet?

Darhana has 'da sneaky'.  She's not a rogue, but rangers can be sneaky if they have to be.

    No issue with the background.

    • Not sure where you're getting 46 HP from?...
    • Same thing, 40' movement speed?
    • Assuming you used FCB on an extra skill point?  If so that would make 6 + Int mod (+2) + FCB (1) = 9.  I see 10 points spent.
    • I see Caravan Guard as your campaign trait, though I don't see the non-campaign trait selection?
    • Profession is a class skill for rangers
    • Please itemize equipment costs

-The HP was a typo, I've corrected it.

-the 40ft speed is from my non-campaign background (Wanderlust).  It's underneath the campaign trait in the same box on the sheet

Wanderlust: Your childhood was brightened by the new places you constantly saw as you traveled with your parents, who were merchants. Still excited by travel, you gain great energy when traveling overland. Treat your base land speed as 10 feet higher when determining your overland speed. (I changed it slightly that instead of her parents being merchants, she had to run away from the other kids when she was young and therefore is faster)

-In your Campaign rules/houserules section, it's mentioned: Background Skills (PU p46) is in effect.  Background skills gives 2 extra skill points per level which have to be spend on background skills.  So I have 6+int mod (2) + 2 background skills.

-profession added to class skills (the sheet didn't do that for some reason)

    Campaign Trait: Caravan Guard

    Stats

    STR: 13

    DEX: 17

    CON: 12

    INT: 14

    WIS: 13

    CHA: 10

    Description

She has the grace of a full elf, even though she’s clearly not.  She has long blonde hair, mostly done up in a braid, and blue eyes.  Her clothes are mostly in earth and forest colours, although she owns some nicer outfits.

She can alter herself to look like a human, an elf or even a drow.

    Personality

She’s a bit shy at times, having lived in a small village most of the time or with only her platoon around.  But once you get to know her, she’ll get friendlier.  She will also not talk much about her past.
She’s more at home in the wild then in cities and she doesn’t like too many people around.

    Backstory

Darhana was born in the small village of Kassen in Nirmathas.  She was the result of an indiscretion between a passing elf and the wife of the village smith.  When she was born, it spelled trouble for her mother with the gossip going around in the village.  But other than some taunts from the village children her childhood was quite nice.  She did learn how to run quickly though.  She also learned to change into a human and after some trying, a full elf and for some reason, she could also change into a drow (that freaked out her friends when she first did it though).

When she turned 18, she left the village and entered the military.  There she was trained as a scout, and she quickly was assigned to one of the roaming patrols who tried to keep the Mlthane out.  Things went well until they tried to get a Milthane patrol out of a small village near the border.  Another soldier in her platoon, a good friend and occasional lover was killed during the attack.  Darhana was devastated and as soon as they were back in the capital, she quit and started roaming the world.  With her training she was ideally suited to guide caravans through wild lands.

Three years after she got out of the military, she was hired as a guard on a caravan led by Sandru towards Sandpoint.  While he paid well, she wanted something more and when they arrived in town, she decided to see for something else.

Yes, I'm designing with "arbitrary" combinations in mind. If I read you right, what you will want for SR edge is success(explode(1d6,6),5); does it explode only once, or as many times as you keep rolling a 6?

With respect to L5R, my knowledge is admittedly dated. I'll be reaching out for users with system expertise before I go tackling the image dice.

It's been a while since I played Shadowrun and I've never done the last version, but I think only once.

  6. It looks like it.  You have success counting and exploding dice, but will there be an option to combine them, as that is what shadowrun does.  5+ is a success, but if you use edge then a 6 means you roll again and if you have a 5+, you add another success.  A bit tricky probably (xD6 success 5, reroll 6 is sort of the pseudocode I think).  If it's too tricky, we can of course just add another roll beneath with the number of dice that have rolled a 6.

Also in the document I noticed that for L5R it's mentioned D6 and D12.  Is that the latest version of the game, as in the 3rd and 4th editions it's all D10s.

  7. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I checked the user manual and I couldn't find it: can you have a die being rerolled if you have the highest number possible?  For instance with L5R, you do the roll/keep thing as mentioned above: Keep(10d10,3,highest).  But if it rolls a 10, you roll again and add the results together (keep doing that until you don't have a 10 anymore).  Is there a mechanic to do that?

And in Shadowrun, if you use edge, you can reroll 6's on your D6 but you don't add them up (just add another success).  Is that also possible?

Now she has seen everything she could without actually breaking in, Chalia returns to the inn to wait for the others and inform them of what she had seen.

Chalia did a last tour of the bank to check if there were other routes out of the bank, as she didn't like the long path from the back to where they could choose between different paths, before heading back to the inn to report what she had seen to the others.

Is there any way to have private dice rolls? If a GM is rolling dice for monsters, skills checks, saves, etc, they might not want to show the modifier or even the result to the players. At the moment every roll is public and visible to everyone.

I have asked it somewhere else and they have added it to the list of things to do.  Probably when they do private parts in posts and things like that.

@farothel Not quite yet, no. That is something that will most likely be possible once the “private text/post/thread and language block” section of the dev list.

I’ll add private rolls to the feature requests on the tracker so it’s seen for sure by the dev team.

    perfect, thanks.

Chalia moved towards the bank and first did a tour around the building, checking it out with her eye for architecture.  Then she would walk the proposed escape route from the back door to get to know any obstacles and also scout out a few alternate rounds should there be unexpected issues.  She would also try to see if there were ways to throw obstacles into the path of anyone who would try to follow them, although the latter might depend more on what would be available the following day.

"Sounds like a good plan," Chalia said, "you can go talk with those guys.  Maybe take Morgrym with you.  You do the talking, he brings the expertise on clockworks.  I'll do a walkaround the bank to check some extra routes just in case.  I've also some expertise in architecture, so I might learn something from actually looking at the building.  Say meet back here for dinner."

"I think we might have the best chance of attack when we go in right before opening in the morning," Chalia suggested, "We can use those hats to pretend to be customers who want to come in a bit early.  If they are as greedy as we think they are, they might not object.  And if we go right before opening, there won't be any other people around who can be in the way... or worse, help the employees.  And the throng of people out in the morning can help shield us when we want to get away, especially if we take off our disguises.  That only leaves tonight for getting the extra information, but that should be possible if we concentrate on the important bits.  Mostly the clockworks and how they react.  We can also do a walk-by of the location, so we know alternate routes just in case."

Chalia nodded, but kept quiet for now, letting the others ask questions.  She did make a mental note that they best do a recon of the building, both inside and outside to see other getaway routes.  For inside the most likely person to do so was Flopper, maybe with her or the dwarf as bodyguard.  The others could check the outside.  She really didn't like these kind of rush jobs, but sometimes there was no avoiding it and getting one up on Mugland would be a fun thing.

"Just so I understand," Chalia said as she looked at the others to get a feel for their reactions, "you want us to break into a temple of Abadar and then rob a bank.  I'm not saying I won't be doing it, but I just want to make sure we're on the same page.  Well, my main question will be the usual.  Floor plans, number of guards beside those clockworks and also, how strong are those clockworks?"
