  1. Well then, locations all sound interesting. Cards on the table, if it's Fallout I'm all-in so "where" is just the flavor of the day, heh. As to "pillars" that's tough to say, but gun-to-my-head (influenced by character build therein) I'd say: 1. Survival/Exploration 2. Crafting/Scavenging 3. Combat/Aggressive Negotiations 4. Faction Conflict/Relationships 5. Settlement Building/Management Bear in mind I want it all (not alone I'm sure). Even as I type I'm waffling on the order of choices. Point of curiosity, what books will be available (tentatively)? Like many here I delight in character creation and wondered which among my builds would be legit.
  2. Decided to go simple for now. Picked up Gunslinger and +1 Small Guns and added a spoiler at the bottom of the character sheet to track level progression. I thought about Scrounger or one other scavenging perks, but I don't think I completely understand how much of an improvement they provide just yet. Awareness was appealing, but you need to roll Effects to proc it so I figured the extra damage die (Gunslinger) was a good initial step. Gun Fu might be a good long term plan, but I'd need one more AGI and it appears to burn through AP and ammo; still it looks cool. Lastly I considered more craft perks like Gun Nut which would be helpful, but maybe a bit situational given our current circumstances. Truth be told I was kinda relieved Jane's specials prohibited some choices and helped to narrow down options, lol. I'm curious what, if any, plans folk have for their own characters. I keep looking at Demolition Expert and wondering if I should have narrowed Jane's concept a little more to start with. Or maybe that's just the RPG equivalent to buyer's remorse in a new (to me) system, 😏.
  3. Hmmm, lots of great options. Just trying to decide between build paths. I'll try and make a pick quickly.
  4. Sorry, sat here like a doofus wondering whose turn it was. S-M-R-T, that's me! I pre-rolled that held action just in case, not bad results at all, but it's probably dead before Jane can shoot. That was a good reminder, for the future, to look into effects to add onto the pistol if the opportunity arises, heh.
  5. AP Pool: 0/6 Defense: 2 HP: 10/10 Initiative: 16 Luck: 4/5 Ammo: 17x .38 Conditions: Keen SensesOne or more of Dogmeat’s senses are especially keen; they can attempt to detect creatures or objects, which characters normally cannot, and they reduce the difficulty of all other PER tests by 1 (to a minimum of 0). As fast as the snake had been Jane was just a little bit faster. With a sudden twist she quickly spun away turning a lethal exchange into a dance recital complete with a pirouette before leveling her gun at the Twinjaw. For someone who appears to collect bumps and bruises she sure could move. Knowing the others would likely make short work of the beast Jane resisted the temptation to squeeze off another shot unless things didn't play out as expected. All the while seemingly oblivious to the new hole in her garment. OOC: Minor action: Aim, Major Action: Ready Attack. Close Range weapon with Close Quarters quality (no penalty if within reach). Attack Dog for bonus damage when successful. Holding the attack to see if the snake dies from the party's hits thus far. Will pull the trigger before the snake can take it's next turn should it survive that long. EDIT: 6 damage total; 3 from the gun (no triggered effect) + 3 from Dogmeat (Vicious, one effect triggered).
  6. Quick question, was both the rolls a success? I ask because Jane has Defense 2, unlike most folks, given her high AGI. Hoping she actually dodged that hit, 🥺.
  7. Totally understandable. Look after family, this can easily wait. Hope they get well soon!
  8. AP Pool: 3/6 Defense: 2 HP: 10/10 Initiative: 16 Luck: 4/5 Ammo: 17x .38 Conditions: Keen SensesOne or more of Dogmeat’s senses are especially keen; they can attempt to detect creatures or objects, which characters normally cannot, and they reduce the difficulty of all other PER tests by 1 (to a minimum of 0). The serpents were proving tougher than she'd hoped, but at least Sarah was having success with them. "Yeah! Splat that snake!", she cheered as the monster died. The danger was closer to her and Dogmeat now, but that was more their style. Redoubling her efforts Jane took deliberate aim at one of the remaining snakes and fired off a shot as Dogmeat leapt around them snapping at the creatures looking for an opening. OOC: Minor action: Aim, Major Action: Attack. Close Range weapon with Close Quarters quality (no penalty if within reach). Attack Dog for bonus damage when successful. One critical success, so i believe that's a hit and can bank an AP. Looks like 3 damage total (before armor), considered using a Luck point reroll to try and improve that, but not sure how fast they come back in a pbp game. Besides I think Jane is more support than damage dealer so chip damage and banking AP is my combat goal right now.
  9. I think there was a misunderstanding for Jane's damage dice. The extra two were from Dogmeat, not the fire rate of the gun. Mechanically it all works out the same this time around, just didn't want to blow through her limited ammo on the first round.
  10. I dunno. Three of us have 10 or less hp with maybe 1 DR for physical attacks. Add in that attacks causing 5 or more damage are crits which inflict an injury and when the target is reduced to zero they get a second injury means most folk will be down and rolling death saves pretty fast. Lead free food is a bonus though.
  11. Wow, 8 dice is crazy! Is there gonna be anything left to take that persistent bleed damage... or eat? 😵 Seriously though, very cool!
  12. Okay. Jane has a readied attack on an opponent that moves into Close Range. She is using a pipe gun which has the Close QuartersCan be used with enemies within Reach without increasing difficulty. and UnreliableRolls a complication on a 19 or 20. traits. Her TN is 12 (AGI 9 + Small Guns 3 + Tagged), if she succeeds Dogmeat can apply Attack DogWhen Dogmeat assists on one of your attacks, he must move within Reach of the target, and he inflicts his own melee damage on the target if the attack is successful. for added damage. The gun has 3 dice (Physical) and Dogmeat does 2 dice (Vicious, Physical). I think that cover it.
  13. I had a couple questions about the scene. So we know there are three, but what do they look like? Do they have two mouths maybe? Also I was wondering what the terrain is like, I don't need a map, but maybe some descriptors to work with. Should I have pre-rolled my attack and damage or hold that for later? Maybe just list the details for reference? The rules for using Dogmeat in a fight were spread across three different parts in the book, so it took me a sec, 🙃. Turns out he really is the good-est-boy!
  14. AP Pool: 6/6 Defense: 2 HP: 10/10 Initiative: 16 Luck: 5/5 Conditions: Keen SensesOne or more of Dogmeat’s senses are especially keen; they can attempt to detect creatures or objects, which characters normally cannot, and they reduce the difficulty of all other PER tests by 1 (to a minimum of 0). A moment before Jane heard the tell-tale rattling Dogmeat had bared his teeth and let out a low rumbling growl warning of the impending danger. Jane reflexively drew her sidearm and pointed it in the direction of the serpents having long since learned to trust her pal's instincts. Knowing she was short on ammo Jane held her ground intending to pick her shots and make them count. Dogmeat, his ears now lying flat, was accustomed to this strategy and stood tensed up beside her ready for when the action began. OOC: Draw Pipe Gun (minor action - Draw Item) and prepare to fire on the first enemy to move into Close Range (major action - Ready). If Jane is successful I'll have Dogmeat move in and take advantage of his Attack Dog quality to bump the damage up. That is, of course, assuming the targets don't go down in a single shot since anything else would cost AP and I don't wanna do that just yet.
  15. Finally able to log in. Been having some bad-gateway issues trying to get on. Too tired to post atm, will get one in tomorrow soon as I can.
  16. AP Pool: 4/6 Defense: 2 HP: 10/10 Initiative: 16 Luck: 5/5 Conditions: Keen SensesOne or more of Dogmeat’s senses are especially keen; they can attempt to detect creatures or objects, which characters normally cannot, and they reduce the difficulty of all other PER tests by 1 (to a minimum of 0). Jane listened to what was being laid out while absently scratching Dogmeat's left ear as people spoke. "Seems pretty straight forward. Gotta a couple bullies flexing their muscles," she said reducing the whole issue to it's most basic concept. Furrowing her brows he asked, "Did'ja catch any names or titles that might identify yer problem makers beyond being NCR? Could be handy in sorting this all out." OOC:

Deciding they were not in any real hurry Jane hunkers down next to Dogmeat and begins scratching his head while continuing to watch the others. With a shrug she says, "Far as I know we got time, maybe folks will turn up something useful." OOC:
  18. AP Pool: 0/6 Defense: 2 HP: 10/10 Initiative: 16 Luck: 5/5 Conditions: Keen SensesOne or more of Dogmeat’s senses are especially keen; they can attempt to detect creatures or objects, which characters normally cannot, and they reduce the difficulty of all other PER tests by 1 (to a minimum of 0). Jane nodded absently as Sally spoke. She was definitely curious to see what this settlement had to offer, but stayed near their guide for the moment. Even so her gaze roamed across the various merchant stalls making a mental inventory of things she would want to pick up once she could gather enough caps or tradable salvage to barter with. Also, it was worth while to know what they had in abundance so that she could prioritize scavenging for what would fetch the most profit. Looking to Dogmeat she said, "Too much of this, not enough of that. Am I right?" To which her canine companion only responded with a sort of bemused snort. When the wind shifted bringing the scents of cooking foodstuffs the pair began sniffing the delicious breeze with uncanny similarity. The two looked at each other and Dogmeat began wagging his tail slightly. Jane held up her hands, "Okay, we can get something, but in a bit. Business first, deal?" Dogmeat seemed to reply with a sound like someone chewing their words which Jane appeared to accept as an agreement. There would be plans that needed making, but she wanted to hear what this mayor had to say before doing anything just yet. OOC: Does there appear to be crafts-folk available for modding gear or is it more shelves of final products available?
  19. I gotta toss my character in the bin. They're just not holding my interest enough to wanna write about them for several months. I won't hold folks up, thanks for the invite. Maybe next time!
  20. Oof! Got late fast. Got the basics done I think. I'll post something after work tomorrow.
  21. Just tinkering with point buy, forgot that my table had house-ruled a couple things over the years and I'm having to relearn standard creation again, 🙃. Fortunately Dhole's House has a generator that handles the math for me so I can look at the final result without taking too long. I always forget that the stat tables are more subjective than ironclad interpretations. Another stab or two and if it won't work I'll hammer together a quick-start character so as not to keep folk waiting..
  22. Jane was visibly relieved when their contact arrived to bail them out of the most awkward social interaction she'd ever witnessed. With Sarah Jessup's offer she gave a slight shrug and chimed in, "Yeah, that sounds great. A quick tour'll be helpful, thanks." Jane did her best to speak with a friendly smile while Dogmeat made a few short grunts that sounded for all the world like someone trying to conceal laughter. Jane rolled her eyes at her pal and poked him with her knee, but said nothing in response. The pair moved to remain near Jessup so as not to become separated from their guide while in the settlement. 23. I tend to use Point-Buy or Quick-Start as well when available, in case we are voting. In the meantime I'll start putting an idea together; faculty member of some kind, maybe a professor from another department if I can get a high enough EDU. So many possibilities, 😁.
