  1. Afaik Open Office I think (more or less) became Libre Office (forked). Libre is still updated but I _think_ Open Office is not. I find that Libre does a better job going back and forth between its native doc formats and Microsoft's for what its worth.
  2. Ok, I keep chasing my tail build wise and need to crap or get off the pot so to speak. So DM(s), please look over these two options for build legality and LMK :P.   Caryatid Column Column 2 / Dark Creature 1 ||  Sword Sage 2 / Ardent 1 OR Half Fiend* 2 / Caryatid Column 1 || Monk 2 / Erudite 1 (Spell to power) *Could a few other "halfs" as well if needed.  Really this one depends a lot on ending as a construct and may (or may not) have issues with type progression. Very much up to how RFT wants to do things...     Steel raised some points: Sources for Caryatid is RFT 3.5 since Oselcamo was a no go previous ask a week-ish ago. Dark creature: Latest edition from after lords of madness = Cormyr, Tearing of the Weave 153 Ordering of Caryatid vs Half Fiend (3.5 version) matters depending on waaay too many things that are subjective DM calls. Type order may or may not apply, savage species type pyramid may or may not apply, starting monster 'class' needs to be level 1 or not may or may not appy. Etc.
  3. Sorry G, looking at Swordsage myself, and yeah afaik its a miss print and should be x4 at level 1. At least that is how I have seen t played in the past and a search for errata lights up more sparkly than a Christmas tree on it.
  4. As I see it agree with your assessment.   Pro's: Simple to play, easy to DM and very little to go off the rails a.k.a. characters do something weird that either bypasses a bunch of plot, or the party misses/fails to follow up on a theoretically blindingly obvious yet important clue needed to get from point A to point D. :P   Cons: Dragons feel over done and should be special. But that may just be my pet peeve. :P Also potentially very limited RP in a dungeon crawl post the 'we meet at the tavern' intro routine and variety will depend on what is in those rooms. Hopefully not just all combat.
  5. Tome is fun but not required for the spirit of it I think. Gestault with adjusted RLA and Oslecamo on the plate is not that far off.   It would of course start lower level so there is that...
  6.   I had the same thoughts. Only mine were borderline insane... i.e. thinking back to the various Menzo games run by Drowbane, Jreece, Kakita Ayame and crew. Nope, scratch the borderline part of that statement....
  7. Yep, at any given level to be clearer. And only for hybrids for the very good reason you bought up. I do not want to suggest anything to break what is in play if at all possible because that = a big damn mess. Since it looks like monster stuff needs to be continuous that essentially would translate into do monster hybrid levels... then you could do PRC levels after that. I suppose the thought process went if you were hybriding some low level monster stuff it would not come into play at all since you can't PRC till 6 (usually barring tricks or a very, very few PRCs) and your hybrid stuff would be done by then anyway. If you had say 6-10 levels of hybrid stuff, then it would just delay PRCs till later levels. But... If you wanted to be vampire, demon, dragon lord guy with a side of blink dog? Well that is an aweful bunch of crazy crap special as-is, so no need for PRCs for you as a sort of tradeoff power wise.
  8. Np. Game is complicated. Kinda figured it was a general suggestion to look at vs a 'you can just do X'. And, I was unsure of what living creature meant in terms of an awakened construct, but now I know. :P   That does still leave the Qs... 1) Can a healing belt MI indeed be a repairing belt? That was mentioned, but not by a GM. 2) Or, can I use that rune caster item I mentioned but for repair?   3) As far as char build concepts I have set my sights on the following (barring hybrid stuff changing)   1 Caryatid Column 2 Caryatid Column 3 Dark Creature (1 level template - there have been several versions of this printed as I recall, but the newest source I am aware of: cormyr - the tearing of the weave p153. The difference with the Tome of Magic version is it the HIPs is no longer EX (now sadly SU), but in trade it does include the built in 'cover' part of hiding like say shadow dancer does ) ... and then continuing from Caryatid Column on that track from lev 4 onward I may move where dark creature fits in progression on that track but otherwise I think that all works. Just let me know either way. Still thinking on class side.
  9. Not at all. It would allow anything not PRC on the other side of monster. Sorc is a base class. However Eh? I guess I was not clear. In suggesting PRC vs hybrid monster as an interesting tradeoff. Base classes would be fine. So your example is ok since you chose sorc which is a base class and not a prestige class. Now if you wanted to be a PRC on the class side? Then you would have to wait to start that PRC until after your monster stuff was done on the other side first is what I meant. Also, this is for hybrids 'crossing streams', which generally we do not have yet afiak. So it should not break most any current char since basically none use it yet? But good on raising thoughts / concerns. If anyone sees obvious holes in it feel free to keep shooting darts. That is how things improve. That said not sure the crossing streams thing is even live at this point, let alone a rules set for it tbh. Pretty much it was just a 'food for thoughts' kinda thing while the DMs mull it over and vote.
  10.   - So a buncha posts happened while I wrote this apparently. Take this as not ignoring those posts or concerns. Rather that was me just tipity-typing away for a while when the world moved on.   --- Admittedly not asked ,and so my vote counts zero... But just some random thoughts from the peanut gallery since Blue Jay brought up limits. If allowed, and to nerf power gaming, I would (preliminary) think about something like...   Traits and Features: You gain the sum of all negative game mechanic effecting traits and features period, in the case where all your 'breeds' have the same negative feature then you get the worst one. E.g. You want to be a vampire demon cross breed (which is possible in Oslecamo)? Sure, but your not only going to be 'sunlight sensitive', 'turnable' and subject to holy water, you're also a non native outsider now too and as such not only are raise dead and so on no bueno to you, but you will not reform if you die on the abyss. For the purpose of hostile spells you are considered as the most permissive meaning if any of your types count? Then Gratz bruh you are targetable. :P You gain the sum of non overlapping traits and features. So our example vampire demon could gain telepathy and the ability to shape change into a bat or wolf or whatever. You must pick between overlapping positive traits and features and forever be that you. Presumably you take the best, but hey take the worst if it really floats your boat.   Stats: You only get the best between positive stat mods, but you must sum this best with any negative stat mod. Note that this would not count the stats from the Oslecamo feats since that is feat based and mechanically reflects the advantage of the cross. But, otherwise from listed progressions? Yeah... Non stat crossed with stat? You get the non stat for all the good and bad that gives. Note that if a non stat replaces a negative stat mod you still need to 'pay' for that stat to be brought to zero modifier by some means either by taking the awakened feat and/or though usage of point buy that just gets flushed on creation.   Progression: Monster progressions are potent generally and add to a PC, just like a PRC is supposed to be 'better' than a base class. So treat them as such. Like a PRC only one side can have it and you can not take a PRC on the other side until all your monster side stuff is done. Puts just a touch of trade off balance in place by allowing std chars to have more PRC-ability.   Book Keeping: On submission and on levelling the player (and not the DM) is required to use and maintain a standardised format table showing all the complexities of stats and traits clearly delineating each breed as a column along with a 'result' column for easy reference and rules adjudication. Failure to do so means the character is not playable. With great power comes great ... wait for it... wait for it... accountant-ability. :P   Overall? Opens up some fun pasta-bilities. Will still be a bit of a pain to check and so on, but should nip the power abuse aspects in the bud I think, and removes a heck of lot of the book work for these sorts of frakensteins from the GMs. Would need a standardised table or two made up by GMs for char gen, but that is a one time thing.
  11. Cool that helps a bit, although not sure that Monster Hybrid applies to non-Oslecamo progressions or not? But if it does it is an option.   Also, edited my post and replaced all links to anything that might be copyrighted (best guess) with book and page references just to be on the safe side.
  12. Challenge accepted! Wait... There was no challenge? Well anyway.... Healing. So, repair spells work, but so too does the vigor line of spells, or it should afaik since it grants fast healing to the subject. That opens up more class options, and class options are for sure the easiest way to address this issue. But maybe I want something not divney or arcaney for the build. So then what? Well we can still slap those spells on eternal wands (or non-eternal for that matter) easy enough. Issue here is going to be UMD rolls if they are not on a spell list. Then a maybe brain flash occurred. FR has a PRC class called Runecaster(Player's Guide to Faerun p69) that creates no-spell-list needed daily (or charged) items that would be perfect for this. Well there are some limitations to these runes like fixed target (user) and they are permanently dispellable, so don't go running around with it out in the open/LOS for enemy caster to see... But none the less pretty perfect for this mostly out of combat application. If I have it right it works out to be a Lesser Vigor rune at 400gp to buy a 1/day use assuming setting spell level and caster level of the effect to 1, which is indeed budget friendly for 3rd level char for sure.   Looked at... Healing Devotion - Certainly works, but is a touch miserly and more importantly the feat cost is high given awakening already eats one of 'em. Dragon Shaman - Half a cigar. Normally pretty awesome but heals to half... and then nada. Which begs the question and then what? Shadow Creature(Lords of Madness p167). Very cool idea. Also adds to sneakiness and a sneaky gish psion is one of my top build concepts so far... But only if its applicable to a construct in RFT, not sure how fixed on creature types allowable you are for templates. Either way, which version(s) are we using? Official, Oslecamo or other?   New thought. What about level of The Crossbreed which is (or at least was) approved. As I read it you get both sets of racial traits construct/human and can choose whichever you want as most beneficial. So that could be can heal normally, and even add in eating/sleeping and whatever to better play that role I was shooting for of "Awww... Isn't that cute? The puppy construct thinks its a people." It may also (re) open shadow creature.
  13. No problemo 1-2). For 3 the reading is relatively clear, but its is easy to get it confused with savage species where you become a monstrous humanoid I think.. mebbe? Been a while since I char genned or played 3.5ed so I am for sure still knocking the rust off. :P Maybe the feat just saying retains type, unless vermin or animal (or whatever) would probably work... And two moar Qs. 1) There is no mention of eating or sleeping on the RLA progression? Constructs don't ofc, so maybe just default to that. I would be in favor of having to eat rocks per Oselcamo as think exploring a 'I am alive?' line of RP would be fun, but whichever works. 2) Same for healing? Also not mentioned RLA, but per construct base answer would be no, and it would need to use repair. Presuming a wise choice if so would be some eternal wand(s) of whatever level 1? artificer spell fixes stuff otherwise its career might be just a wee bit short. Would self repair using knowledge - engineering skill work in that case, and if so how? Now do I want a future template? Hmm.... Let me think on that a bit.
  14. That works pretty well for the most part actually. Two Three questions. 1) Do I have to build with the RLA progression straight in one go on one side, i.e. no interleaving anything else? 2) Would it be possible to keep one of Oslecamo's perks where of the Carytid's chosen weapon counts as a martial weapon of any style? 3) I assume for awakened that con is the same as mental stats. i.e. you get what you paid for in 32 point buy?  Actually, maybe it stays a construct? Not sure on awakened feat but RAW it might...
  15. So question on how the DMs feel about Caryatid Column  and any modifications it would need to be considered playable?
