  1. Sorry to hear that, but it's your call after all. It was good while it lasted, and I am looking forward to play with you or anyone else in the game in the future. Cheers!
  2. I have no genius idea, but I stand by what I wrote before. The simplest way to make this work for me is: Every player makes a general statement of how his / her character acts in combat. Each, round, every player makes a statement of intent and rolls dice accordingly. The GM computes the SR and resolves actions, rolling additional dice if required, based on all information at his disposal. This might require interpreting the character intentions if the original intent does not make sense anymore, and we players will have to accept the result. Or we switch to an Openquest based system: 5s rounds One action + one reaction per round in addition to movement Each player acts at his DEX or INT rank (so no SR) First option is a lot more work for the GM, so I can understand if it is not the preferred one. But hopefully someone will have a better idea...
  3. OK, that makes sense. But since Surrak's DEX SR is 2, that would make it possible to cast Demoralize on the current round. Which would add the interesting question of the necessity to add the 3 SR 'reload' tax next round... Now I somehow understand now why MRQ / Legend / Mythras switched to a more manageable action points economy. Maybe we could use DEX / INT ranks as in BRP or Openquest?
  4. Surrak was in front of Broo2 if I remember well. The chairs take a full square on Roll20, which is an abstraction I suppose but somehow might make the distance bigger than it would be. Surrak's DEX SR is 2 however, but overall we can roll with the round sequence you described.
  5. Surrak, Prax Nomad Surrak finally recovers from his surprise and decides to jump across the table to make the broos he is facing out of reach. He then attempts to befuddle the nearest one (Broo 2), and disrupt the other one still standing (Broo 4) using spirit magic, touching the relevant tattooed runes on his body. 6. OK, so Surrak will obviously attempt to flee, and I have a few questions: Is there enough space for him to move between the stairs and the tables on his right? If he elects to jump over the table, will he use his straight 'Jump' skill, or a DEX roll of some kind? Will he get any bonus / malus doing so? What would be his chances if he attempts to roll under the table?
  7. Surrak, Prax Nomad The first reflex of Surrak when seeing the monstrous foes behind the door is to yell: "BROOS!". Figuring that it would be foolish to step outside, the apprentice shaman moves slightly to his left, leaving the opportunity for the others in the room to shoot at the broos or join melee combat with him. Then he prepares to strike if the enemy enters, and is ready to dodge the first attack coming at him. HP 13/13 Head 5/5 Chest 6/6 Left Arm 4/4 Right Arm 4/4 Abdomen 5/5 Left Leg 5/5 Right Leg 5/5 Impala Rider Apprentice Shaman Daka Fal Ancestors Cult You don't need to prepare to attack with a sword. It happens on your shortsword strike rank. Every move action you take delays it by 1, every spell preparation action delays it by 1. At present, here's what's going to happen. You'll move two squares away from the broo. This is within movement allowance for the broo. You'll end up standing just inside the door with several opponents on you. Each opponent gets to try and hit you with a weapon attack and then a head butt. Your dodge defends against one opponent, which means if you're lucky enough to roll dodge, that one opponent's attack won't count, unless they crit, in which case of you don't critical dodge, you'll get hit. Then his mates will come up to you and each of them will take their two attacks, for which you will have no defence roll. If they successfully attack they will hit you. You're only wearing 1pt of armor, so in Star Trek parlance that's shields down, and 'everything' will come off body location hit points and general hit points. So unless you're really lucky, you'll be dead in about 5 seconds. If you're really unlucky you'll be knocked unconscious and dragged out the door to become a sacrifice out of the Alien movies. In RQ, getting caught alone by multiple enemies is the surest way to get killed. The good news is your dex sr is above average, which means if you run, you'll get back to the shield wall that's forming. Your big strength is your magical attack. If you get dragged into melee, you'll get butchered. So, my advice is change your turn and adopt the 'Run Forrest Run strategy'.
  8. Surrak, Prax Nomad Surrak turns his head back for a brief instant, seeing everybody stir up. He shows a mild grin of distaste looking at the Pol Joni riders, but smiles at Grem when he gets up. "Are you coming along?" he asks, before adjusting his leather clothing and opening the door to peep outside. 9. 'Clarify' here simply means that Surrak wants to know what is the source of the noise. I agree I should have been more descriptive: he opens the door to have a look at what is happening outside.
  10. Surrak, Prax Nomad Fast asleep in his bed, Surrak is torn from his dreams by the sound of people getting off their bed or talking. He opens his eyes and tries to understand what all this is all about. Hearing the scrabbling, he thinks first of his mount, wondering if he bound it properly earlier. This thought is quickly forgotten as he realizes the sound is coming from outside. He gets up quickly and, bringing his sword with him, reaches for the door, decided to clarify quickly what is forbidding everybody to sleep properly. 13. I played a forum based RQ2 game ( for those interested), where the policy in combat situations was that every player would make his declaration of intent, then the GM would roll dice (by hand) and resolve everything. We had to trust the GM to be fair, and accept his rulings in case things didn't pan out exactly as planned, but the game was running smooth enough I found. At some point we decided that every character should declare his default combat actions / policy for the cases when a player is not available for some time. Here we could ask every player to roll dice according to his declared intent to ease the work of Starhawk, if rolling by hand is not acceptable. I'm just throwing that out as an example, not saying we should do the same. I'm perfectly fine with trying something different for the purpose of making this particular PbP game work. In any case, factoring in movement in a combat round will necessarily involve GM rulings at some point, and I am fine with that.
  14. I finally got around to post my character, which took longer than I expected. I still have the base 30 pennies to spend from previous experience. If you allow me to raise it to 32 I can improve my armor (head / chest / abdomen). Otherwise please tell me if anything is not right.
  15. Name: Surrak Gender: Male Age: 21 Cult: Daka Fal Parental occupation: Shaman Character appearance: Character history and personality: Surrak is a man of a few words, but when he speaks, people listen. He is destined to be his clan's future shaman, and he takes this responsibility very seriously. However, his family history made him very wary of any external influence. His grandfather was the clan elder shaman, and even though he remembers little of him, he made a strong impression on the little boy that he was. He also remembers dearly the sadness in his father's eyes when he told of his demise to the clan elders and his family. That day, a rival Morokanth tribe viciously raided a clan party and murdered a great magic user, and a great priest of Daka Fal. Surrak kept an undying hatred for the whole Morokanth race ever since. Unfortunately his father followed the same path three years later, taken by a broo detachment while coming back from a ceremony with a few clan warriors, who failed to protect him. Even though he wasn't there, this made him experience the bitter tribute chaos is exacting on the world, and increased his willingness to combat it whenever possible. These consecutive losses made Surrak very secretive, and at the same time the center of attention of his clan family and community. He devoted himself to remembering his elders, thus continuing the Ancestors Cult of his father and grandfather, and to become a worthy successor of them as clan shaman. One day he went to his mother and the clan elders to say that he heard the spirit of his grandfather talk to him in his dreams. He was told that a great ancient artifact belonging to the clan is still lying hidden in the Rubble, lost there centuries ago by one of his ancestors. And he asked them to consider his request to go to Pavis, and attempt its recovery, even though he has no clear indication of what it is exactly. The elders pondered his request for some time, for Surrak is among the most promising shamans of the clan, but finally accepted, recognizing that the young man would not find peace before he succeeds in this endeavor. "Go if you must, and do what the Ancestors told you to do. But beware of this place, which holds much danger and ancient evil!" they warned. The day after, Surrak was on his way, ready for his quest and decided to avenge his family if the opportunity arises.
