  1. Perhaps it is not necessary, but I do say I like this idea. For me specifically, as an archer, the fact that Percise Shot will upgrade into Improved Precise Shot is nice, but Rapid Shot into Manyshot feels rather like a waste, especially as I don't benefit from it at all. Instead, I'll rather be able to pick up, let's say, 3-4 upgrades to Point-Blank Shot? That way I can get Precise Shot and Rapid Shot, but instead of Manyshot (even if it does upgrade into Improved Rapid Shot, which is strange to say the least). I could pick up Woodland Archer instead for the better chance to hit people, or perhaps I could pick up Far Shot for the extra range, or Deadeye Shot to make people flat-footed to readied attacks... unlikely as the latter is too be. Same can be said for Two-Weapon Fighting and Weapon Focus. Instead of Two-Weapon Defence, I might want Two-Weapon Rend. Perhaps instead of Greater Two-Weapon Focus, I might want Dual-Strike. Perhaps I only want Two-Weapon Fighting in order to go the route of Double Wand Wielder? Or perhaps I want to go down one of the Style Feats available in Complete Warrior, even if most of them also require Weapon Focus? And after Weapon Focus, there is... well, there is Ranged/Touch Spell Specialization, but there is also the previously mentioned Style Feats, feats like Sense Weakness, Melee/Ranged Weapon Mastery, and then the updates to Melee Weapon Mastery such as Slashing Flurry. It would definitely allow for a wider ranger of flexibility. With all the feats already allowed, this might not be necessary, but it might feel nice to have.
  2. Looks good to me. Thanks for putting down the Question about Spot Rules. And this is a smart thing to do, put down the questions in a thread so you don't forgot, and so other people can easily see what has been asked before.
  3. Personally, I believe letting Shadow Blade as a feat (without the need for a stance), or letting you spend character points to be able to add your Dex-to-melee-damage is a reasonable decision to make. 3.5 is not 5E, and should not be compared as such. Even if you are allowed to add Dexterity to damage, there are still many advantages to go for a Strength-based build: It is much, much easier to increase Strength over Dexterity, especially with Templates allowed. THFing still allows you to deal 1.5x Strength damage, and whilst TWFing is much stronger than before, it doesn't mean that THFing's power has gone away, especially Power Attack is still a thing. Now, while the full instansty of charge-optimization is not allowed. We still have Leap Attack, if Arms & Equipment is allowed, we can play grab the Halberd of Vaulting and Raptorans can pick up Diving Charge thanks to Races of Wild being allowed. Failing that, there is the possibility of someone getting a flying mount and going for a lance-charger still. Strength's power and advantages will not be negated by allowing Dex-to-melee damage as an option. It will not automatically make Dex a god-stat. It would just make builds a bit more balanced and flexible, that is all. Genuinely, I prefer the Sphere's take on it. If you take the Weapon Finesse talent twice, you can add 1/2 your BAB to damage. But only if you are using Dex to attack and Str to Damage. This way, Dex focuses characters get a nice flat scaling bonus to damage, but it comes at the cost of a talent, as well as still inflicting Strength penalties if you do have negative Strength.
  4. Or the Targetting Fighter for ranged characters who might have been looking to focus fully on Dex rather than a Dex/Str split. Not to mention the Targetting Fighter also gets their Volley attack option for a super-rapid shot that really makes them expert archers. Edit: Also, thank you dalamb for changing the WoWD to only applying to AoE's that do damage, so now that Fog Cloud and the like are no longer considered destructive.
  5. Source Book is fine, Heroes of Battle. But page number is really specific and not something I can answer.
  6. ... Why would I know the chapter and verse? I'm just googling 'Resounding Voice' and looking up the spell, I don't know the chapter and verse. Plus, you've skipped over my question about Spot and which ruleset we are using? Which is very important for my character?
  7. I genuinely do not know. It could be, though there aren't many Breath Weapon users around. And yet, as per the description written out in the Laws of War, Fog Cloud currently is a Weapon of Wanton Destruction. And you just know they'll be assholes who use the letter of the Law rather than the Spirit of it to their advantage.
  8. 'Child of Heaven' means 'Medium Size'd individual. Therefore, any magical effect, alchemical concoction, or biological agent that has a range greater than a 10ft spread is considered a Weapon of Wanton Destruction. Personally, I am arguing that the statement should be changed to only apply to damaging effects of such size, and spells such as Fog Cloud, which has a 20ft radius, should not be considered a Weapon of Wanton Destruction. But as it currently stands, if its bigger than a 10ft spread, its a WoWD
  9. Wings of Flurry and Black Tentacles still fall under the 'Weapons of Wanton Destruction' rules, so, you know, not really convincing me it's a good idea here? If it wasn't for that, I would pick it up immediately as it would be a very fun combination to explore. But with how they are very illegal, even for Privateers, not a good choice to make.
  10. I mean, Arcane Archer is useable even without the Fighter boosting the BAB, and it's definitely an option I have been considering. Problem is, the main draw of the Arcane Archer's Imbue Arrow would be charging it with spells like Fireball, even if I wasn't planning on being a Bard with a limited spell list (and I'm not sure if I can Imbude an Arrow with a spell from a Scroll?), I wouldn't be able to use those spells thanks to them being Weapons of Wanton Destruction. I mean, I guess spells like Glitterdust might work? Or maybe I could use Imbue Arrow with Summon Monster? Would be an amusing thought, even if Summon Monster 2 wouldn't even be an effective meatshield at this level...
  11. Ah, thank you. Resounding Voice! Yes, that would be a perfect spell for my bard to have. So even if I am on top of the crow's nest I can still be heard by my allies. Probably even when they are fighting on the deck of the other ship. 900ft range should be more than enough to cover a boarding party. ... Except its not in the Spell Compendium, so I'm just going to have to hope the DM is willing to allow it.
  12. I would say TheFred managed to answer the question quite effectively (except I won't be using Fireballs and the like are those are Weapons of Wanton Destruction and those are very illegal). But I can go further: Sure, my optimal range is much, much longer than anyone else in the party. But the key word there is optimal. We aren't always going to be in the daytime in sunny weather. If we have stormy weather, the turbulent waves and darkness will make it hard for me to see effectively, not to mention I'm likely going to receive an attack penalty for firing in such windy conditions. If it's night-time, then I'm pretty much boned. Darkvision typically maxes out at around 120ft, and even that is pretty rare to find. And you know what I can't fire though? Solid Objects. Sure, I can snipe anyone who stays on deck. But what happens if everyone decides to hide bellow deck then come pouring out after we've closed in? Then we'll pretty much be fighting at the same time, and I might have been able to injury or maybe kill one or two people at best. Not only that, there's an important fact to consider here... most of my sniper capabilities are only on one side of my character. Fighter 7/Cragtop Archer 2. The other side is still up in the air, but I'm currently planning on leading into a Bard for support and buffing abilities. Admittedly, the issue of range of Bardic Music is now a thing, especially if I am posted up on the Crow's Nest, but hopefully, there is an item or spell that can help with that? Worse comes to worse I can make a bee-line down to the deck and start singing from there. I don't know if I am going full Bard, but I am absolutely going Bard on the other side of my build.
  13. I think I would enjoy having A&E, as it has some fun arrows that might be nice to play around with. But I don't think it is 'harmless', it is nothing abusive, but there is some pretty strong items there that can allow quite a wide variety of abilities.
  14. Sure, and that +20 to hit would become a +10 to hit if I'm firing at full range increments. +10 to hit isn't absolutely fantastic at this level of the game, and with the Defence Bonuses, AC scales a lot better than it used to. Even without any other form of Defence (like Dex), a Level 9 Fighter will have an AC of 18. Give them a decent Dex and a Shield, and suddenly it's a lot harder to hit them. Of course, dropping the Fighter 9 for Fighter 7/Cragtop Archer 2 only drops the BAB down to +10, and the range increments are then halved so it's only a -5 penalty at max range, rather than -10... does mean I am losing out on an extra attack however, which is pretty big.
  15. That's... huh. Okay, I admit, I did not know that. Obviously, non-clear conditions will be an issue, but I don't know of any magic items or spells that would let me see well in those conditions? Put myself in the Crow's Nest and I should be fine? Hopefully? I guess it depends on how the DM decides to rule things, but these rules make much, much more sense than the penatly to spot rules. It's not that extraordinary. Even if we aren't using the above rules from Stormwrack, Guided Shot is a Complete Adventurer/Spell Compendium Spell that lets me ignore ranged penalties from increments for 1 round, and Chain of Eyes from the Complete Divine/Spell Compendium allows me to take an animal companion or an ally's familiar and see through their eyes to be able to snipe from such long ranges as well. I'm not asking if I can make the build possible, I'm asking if I can make the build non-magical. Plus, the Cragtop Archer's Horizon Shot ability is a full-round action? ... Then again, they already have the penalty for ranged increments halved at level 10, and Swiftwing Arrows from Races of the Wild half it again... gonna edit that into my first post to clarify how it should work.
  16. Very well, that does make sense about why you might be reluctant to alter the skill requirements of a prestige class. Even if I am suggesting that we add a different requirement in its place (in this case, you need to be a half-elf or elf), it is absolutely a can of worms, especially as I fully understand and agree with you when it comes to prestige class feat requirements. On the other hand... I don't think you understand the severity of the problem I am facing. Whilst magic could, potentially, resolve my issue. I would rather not be dependent on magic to be able to resolve the Spot problem. Even if I simply have a Longbow and I am using the Guided Shot spell to be able to attack at maximum range with no attack penalty. I am still looking at 1000ft range max. Which, in turn, is a -100 penalty to Spot. No Skill Focus revision or custom magic item for +X to spot is going to be enough to overcome this spot penalty. Even if I am somehow using Spyglass while trying to fire off a shot, I'm still looking at a -50 penalty to spot. And that is without using any range extenders like a Distance Weapon or the Far Shot feat, which increases this penalty significantly. Again, while Magic could let me overcome this problem with spells alone. I would much, much, much appreciate it if we instead significantly reduce the penalty to spot for long distances. The more mundane my character's archery abilities will be, the more flavourful I feel like it will be. Edit: The Cragtop Archer (Races of Stone) allows me to half the penalty for attacking at range. The Swiftwing Arrows (Races of Wild) allow me to half the penalty for attacking at range. Does this mean I A. Take 0 penalty for attacking at range thanks to reducing something by 1/2 twice to 0. Or B. Take a -1 penalty to attack for every 4 range increments, because I half if and half it again?
  17. Shouldn't the 'Weapons of Wanton Destruction' only apply 'magical effect, alchemical concoction, or biological agent's that harm creatures? Spells like Fireball, Lightning Bolt and Cloudkill, I agree should be seen as Weapons of Wanton Destruction. But spells like Fog Cloud, Solid Fog and Glitterdust, should not fall under that label in my personal opinion. There is nothing 'Wanton', let alone 'Destructive' about these non-damage, non-harmful spells.
  18. ... I genuinely forgot that in D&D, skills start at rank 4 and then go up afterwards. So I can get into the Cragtop Archer by Level 7. Sorry, so used to Pathfinder I missed that little quirk completely. As Lord Foul mentions however, that still does not allow me to get the level 3 or 4 abilities, which is what the Cragtop Archer is about and is kinda necessary for my build to work as intended. I might be able to get away without it, but it would significantly hamper the capabilities of the build. And honestly, changing the skill requirements by 1 or 2 ranks is much more palatable than 3 or 4 like I was asking previously, no? So there is a spell that allows me to ignore the ranged attack distance penalty, I knew I wasn't just imagining it! Thank you for pointing that out to me. Still, the Guided Shot is for 1 round only, and I was hoping to use my Spells for Hunter's Mercy to get that guaranteed crit? Its nice to know that I do have a back-up option if the DM decides to say no however.
  19. Just found this game and I decided to have a poke at it. Took me a while to decide what type of character to build, but I decided to try something unusual: A sniper. Specifically, a very long-range sniper. Because of this, I am very interested in the Cragtop Archer class... except it has a requirement of Climb 10. Meaning I cannot pick it up until next level, even if I can easily meet the BAB requirements. However, Cragtop Archer comes with the possibility and discussion of making an Elven-Specific version of the prestige class that drops the Mountain focus on the class in order to broaden its flavour potential and encourages changing the abilities and skill/feat requirements. Hence I am asking the DM if it might be possible to have a version of the Cragtop Archer class whose skill requirements means I only need to be level 5 to take it? Having Horizon Shot in my build will be fantastic for the build I plan. And even then, will a single attack per round really be that powerful? I might have a lot of range and accuracy, but one attack per round won't be too powerful, at least I hope so. Even if the range will be, significant. Furthermore, even ignoring this fact... can we tweak the normal Spot Rules so I can legitimate spot and attack targets from long range if I have a good enough Spot? The normal restriction of -1 to Spot per 10ft is kinda ridiculous and makes it basically impossible for long-ranged fighting to happen. Maybe -1 to Spot per 100ft against people who are not actively trying to hide? I mean it's not like a ship is actively trying to hide, and you can normally see a ship that is a few miles away on the sea, even if you can't make out many details about it. So the normal penalties just, don't make sense. Sucks that a spyglass is 1000gp as well, kinda ridiculous how expensive it is for how useless it is.
  20. Indeed, congratulations to those who made it in. I'm not surprised I didn't make it, playing a Jedi in what is a rather fantasy-focused game was a long-shot in the first place. But I wish all those who made it a long, fruitful game.
  21. Why thank you! I'm glad to see you think so highly of the Jedi. So many people on the internet these days seem to hate them for being 'stagnant' or 'arrogant'. That's something I did as well. I specifically chose the casting drawbacks that I feel fit Force Users, especially a non-Dark user, the best. No verbal or somantic components, but it requires great focus and emotional control to pull off correctly. Okay, lets be real here, Rey is just... not a good example of the Jedi. I mean, even though she's repeating Luke's struggle with the dark side Arc, she just never stood out to be as having the calm composure that a Jedi is meant to have. Please turn to one Obi-Wan Kenobi, or perhaps Plo Koon to see how I will strive to have Arcantos act in this RP. Hmmm, I admit, I had not considered it too much myself... but I will confess that one of the Spheres I hope/planned to potentially dabble into is the Enchantment Sphere... and I am specifically going to be picking up the drawbacks to limit to me to personal use and perhaps natural use as well. I'm a Jedi, I can't magically give other people extra speed or accuracy with their attacks. But I can channel the Force through myself to make me stronger and faster... Maybe I should consider the flavour of the sphere-specific drawbacks more...
  22. As for me... well, I mean Gestures to my name I was given full permission to use canon universes in a Multiversal game. How could I possibly resist? Not the most imaginative or creative character by far, I am going to 100% admit that. But I'm hoping the broad range of utility, as well as the interesting story beats my Jedi brings to the table can help give me a chance of getting invited.
  23. Ah, perfect, thank you very much! Oh no, the submission is complete. I just know for a fact that the lack of image is going to end up being a mark against the submission. I just wanted it to look as nice as possible regardless, which TheFred helped with.
  24. Inquisitive Investigator | Dabbler of Many Fields | Survivor of Order 66 ~ Insert Photo Here ~ Name: Arcantos Race: Force-Sensitive Human Classes: | Likes: Learning, Theatre, Practising with his Sabre, Meeting New Cultures. Dislikes: Bullies, corrupt leaders, squandered gifts. Party Role: Single-Target DPS, AC buffer, Party Face, Investigator, Off-Combat Healer. Background Arcantos never was a remarkable Jedi. Growing up within the Jedi Temple at Coursucant, Arcantos never stood out amongst his peers. He was never the best at lightsaber combat, nor the best at diving into the Force and using its many different aspects. Yet at the same time, he never particularly struggled either. That isn’t to say that he didn’t find tasks difficult and challenging that required time and dedication to get over. Yet, he was never the worst in his classes no matter what they were. Maths, writing, languages, astronavigation, diplomacy and cultural studies, history of the galaxy as a whole and of various worlds, and more, so much more. He found himself enjoying the art of theatre and was part of the Jedi Theatre Troupe even as a Padawn, doing several courses in Force Healing, though he never dedicated himself to becoming a full Healer. As a whole, Arcantos was never exceptional as a Jedi. This continued as he became a Padawn to a Jedi Investigator. He and his master were good Investigators, but neither were they the best, simply competent as a Jedi was expected to be. He had a solid understanding of various Lightsaber forms, with a tendency towards Form III: Soresu, the Resilience Form, as well as Form IV: Ataru, The Aggression Form, but never committed themselves to mastering one or the other. Indeed, they were also quite competent at their Master’s preferred form, Form V: Shien, The Perseverance Form. Still, whilst the Galaxy was a more dangerous place than it was several decades ago, nothing demanded that Arcantos would become a master of lightsaber combat, and so his solid, but unremarkable skills were enough. And then, not long after he became a Jedi Knight, the Clone Wars began. Due to his unremarkable combat skills and his talents as an Investigator and from there, special operations, Arcantos did not get drawn into the most dangerous and prolonged battles of the war, instead, he stayed mostly on the outskirts and was never attached to a Clone Battalion. He was, however, still a Jedi, and so several times he was forced into pitched battles alongside the Clones, often with only one other Jedi at his side at best. His combat skills were pushed to their limits and focused. His previous talent for Form IV falling to the wayside as Form III and Form V served him much better in a fight. Somehow, through some twist of fate or the Force, Arcantos managed to survive though the war, even as friends he had known for years, including his Master, did not. And then, as Arcantos was in the Jedi Temple, recovering from a mission and lending his help, minor as it was, to the Healer’s Halls. Order 66 came in and the 501st Legion marched on the Jedi Temple. Arcantos did what he could, fighting the Clones to try and help his fellow Jedi escape, especially the younglings and the elders, but there was just so many of them. For every Jedi he helped escape, another three were cut down before his eyes. Arcantos escaped by the skin of his teeth again and again, the stress and tension building up further and further as time went on. Pressure was building within his chest that no quick attempts at meditation could help. And then he stumbled across Anakin Skywalker, the infamous Hero With No Fear himself, cutting down younglings before his eyes, leading the Clone Forces with sickly yellow eyes... and what could he do but rush to stop him, rush into a fight he knew he could not win in a desperate hope to save them. To save one youngling from Anakin Skywalker’s saber and the Clone’s blasters? The battle was brief and brutal Anakin’s raw power smashing through Arcantos'desperate defences as that pressure built up more and more and more... Then he was driven through by Anakin’s saber, left to stumble away and fall off the walkway to tumble to his death... and as Anakin and the Clones turned away to continue their massacre. In what he swore would be his very last breath. That pressure ignited a spark of power that Arcantos never realised he had, and his body was ripped away from his universe to realms unknown. To say that Arcantos was lucky that the first use of his Gatewalking did not just happen in the rare, but not unheard of Sparking that allowed for an Instantaneous but random jump through the Multiverse. But also brought him to the proximity of a powerful druid, alerted to his arrival by the small explosion his arrival created, and had the magic able to heal Arcantos fatal wounds, would be an understatement. Arcantos always believed that the Force, no matter how unknown it might be to the outside world, was what brought him to Nailah - the Druid’s - forest. Yet even this belief was tinged with doubt and uncertainty, how could it not when he saw the fall of his order and the massacre of his people in what was meant to be their greatest sanctuary? Needless to say, the time that followed his miraculous transportation and healing from certain death, was a confusing stretch of time for Arcantos to say the least. Sure, he was used to the existence of other worlds. But being transported through space and what looked like time to the feet of a random individual who was of a race he had never seen before? Needless to say, that was strange. Then there was the fact that this stranger did not just have healing powers that felt like the Force but far stronger, but was actively able to transform into beasts? If he could not reach out to the Force, Arcantos would have felt like he was in a coma or dream. Even if the Force felt different in a way he could not describe. And then on top of all that, was the fact that Arcantos was able to understand them perfectly and be understood, despite knowing that he did not know, nor speak the language that Nailah was? If anything, it was a relief when Arcantos interfered in an altercation between Nailah and poachers, feeling their sheer desperation and finding that they had been encountering bad food shortages and the promised relief for them had not arrived. Letting him not only work out a deal between Nailah and the surrounding villages to help tide them over but also investigate the vanished relief. What followed was the slow unravelling of a conspiracy that swept across several nations and had Arcantos making a name for himself in this new world. A wandering warrior with a sword made out of pure sunlight was quite attention-catching after all (and being that suns were made from plasma like the lightsaber, oddly close to correct despite how fantastical it was). Eventually, he managed to trace the conspiracy to its source, and with a small group of allies he had gathered over the journey (though was admittedly, not particularly close to), stormed their castle to confront the villains... only to find themselves beaten to the punch and an entirely different group of outsiders had unravelled and resolved the conspiracy as well. This was Arcantos’ first introduction to Realmwardens... and where he first learned that he was a being known as a Gatewalker. Taking the invitation, Arcantos followed the Realmwardens back to the Nexus and joined the Realmwardens themselves. Taking the opportunity not simply to learn how to use their capabilities as a Gatewalker, but also to learn more about the Multiverse as a whole. Fleshing out their knowledge and abilities, even as they remained a Jedi at the core. Though the Realmwardens are, in some ways, mercenaries. Arcantos finds himself happy with his role among them, as it allows him to help out many different worlds and planes, similar to what he did previously as a Jedi. Using not just his blade, but also his mind and diplomatic ability to resolve issues. Yet beyond that, Arcantos isn’t a Realmwarden simply to help out the Multiverse, happy as Arcantos is to do so. No... Arcantos wants to rise through the ranks of the Realmwardens and expand his capabilities until he is ready to bring not just himself, but an army back to his home plane to defeat the Sith and rebuild the Jedi Order once more. Personality As a Jedi, Arcantos tries to act with calm composure even in times of stress. He is a simple Jedi Knight, however, instead of a venerable Jedi Master, so it not perfect at this task. Outside of this, Arcantos does his best to stay approachable and friendly, seeing no reason to be a negative nancy when the world has enough darkness in it already. Always open to making casual conversation and trying to befriend others. Not all people are up for becoming friends, and not all friends will be close companions, but that is fine, it is part of life! It is not like Arcantos' trauma from seeing his friends and family killed in a pointless war and his Order slaughtered en-mass before his eyes has made him reluctant to make close bonds with others for fear that he will inevitably lose them as well in equally painful fashion. Not at all, it's simply that some friendships aren’t meant to last. All is one with the Force, attachment is the path of greed and darkness, and one must be able to let go to be a Jedi. It is simply how things are, no need to get upset about things. Still, once you do engage Arcantos and get him talking about a subject that interests him - stories, theatre, history and different cultures are all excellent topics - he is the type of person who could happily discuss a subject matter for hours on end. Even if the other person does not actually say anything much in reply, Arcantos brings passion and energy for the both of them, so it's fine. Even if it likely will apologise for taking up their time and not letting them talk much when he realises how long it is. Poor boy gets so flustered when he realises he’s been doing nothing but talk for several hours. Appearance With messy brown hair and blue eyes, Arcantos is a rather ordinary-looking human. His choice of dress might stand out, as he goes around wearing a grey tunic, beige trousers and a thick brown robe with a hood over the top of it (even if the hood is kept down most of the time). He had a simple brown belt to keep everything in place, and a small metal canister attached to the left side of this belt. The robe often hides this canister from sight, however. When he is going on adventures to other realms, he often takes a rustic backpack with him as well, but beyond that, Arcantos tends not to wear much. He is quite content with his Jedi robes, thank you very much Species Force-Sensitive Humans are, as one might expect, a subspecies of humans, that are more capable of connecting with the binding field of energy that connects all living beings: The Force. With training, this allows one to pull off spectacular feats. Empowering their body beyond mortal limits, moving objects with nothing more than their will and their mind, as well as being able to alter and trick the minds of others, if only on the surface level. Yet, for those who simply have Force Sensitivity, their capabilities surface in more subtle ways. An innate capability of reading others, faster reflexes and reactions than what you might expect, and what others might declare as ‘luck’ or ‘destiny’. A special x-factor in their lives that cannot be described, as the Force is not a simple energy field, but has a conscious and will behind itself, even if it is so alien and beyond that of mortals one can spend lifetimes trying to understand it and always coming short. Yet for those who can reach out to it, even unconsciously, they will always find a comforting, guiding hand on their shoulder to help them on their way.
