Hey all, I hate to do this but I am going to drop from this game. To be blunt, I'm just not having fun. I had previously expressed some of this and gave it more time to brew, but the feelings are the same.

Catch you all on the 'Weave.

    Good gaming 👍

...I feel like our party is in way over their heads, unless the 'hydra' is an illusion even if the hyrda is an illusion. It looks like we're dealing with a high level spellcaster here, but other than that I'm not certain what the old man's game is. He may be trying to make us flee without some or all of our possessions so that he can take them, or maybe he's trying to put use between him and the hydra.

Oh crap, I just remembered that if fail the roll to disbelieve in this system, illusions can still hurt you.

...Ethraniel brought two dogs, but there are three on the map.

Rolled for detect illusion, but badly. Thalgack isn't going to spot anything this time I think.

Right players can always make a Perception save to "disbelieve" but only if the PC has a strong suspicion that an illusion is present. Fits this scene 👍

    Updating today or tomorrow.

  3. Parsool

The caravan slowly rolls through the city's main street the wagon wheels clicking in rhythm along the cobblestones. On either side the many shops and restaurants of the city are well-lit by lanterns and several crowds of people wander the street some gazing at the passing caravan. A few travelers who entered just before the Lysorians stop to chat with merchants and courtesans meeting them along the wide street. The adventurers had indeed gone from the wild desolation of the plains to a vibrant city that never slept --

    Adhra:

Two well-dressed men approach the riding adventurer but seeing her close they pause eyes wide! They mumble to each other and walk alongside Adhra offering her golden necklaces and perfumes, "These are the finest in the land! Look! We draw from the best Lemurian traders! Smell this!"

    Karim:

A basket-wielding young woman in robes walks besides the riding adventurer offering him fine-smelling biscuits, "You must be hungry from your travels. Please try these - the best buttered biscuits in all Parsool. I have berry jams as well ..."

    Vahanna:

A tall robed older man walks up holding silken robes in both hands, "Dress like a noble for the lowest fees in Parsool! These silks will make you feel as divinity!"

    Elkor:

Two attractive women stride up to the adventurer as he rides smiling, "Such a big strong warrior! Surely the road made you lonely -- my friend and I can provide the very best companionship on a night like this ..."

  4. The Cedar Forest, night

    Everyone:

A large thick cloud of fog emerges from nowhere shrouding the adventurers from the menacing monster! The creature pauses seemingly confused then resumes its slow movement in the direction of the barking dogs!

    Map

Most of the PCs can still see heat signatures of each other, the old man, the horses, dogs and the approaching monster!

Kai cannot see beyond ten feet around him due to the fog.

The monster seems to be following the sound of the barking dogs at the shore.

Other than Ethraniel who's already acted, the other PCs can take actions now!

  5. Eric said the problem was fixed. Can you see all my images now?

The Parsool experience is akin to being mobbed - seems everyone has something to offer for a price ...

  6. Scene: The hydra is roughly fifty feet from shore and moving about ten feet a second through the waters. It's big: probably at least fifty feet in length (the PCs can't see all of it yet but its three necks are nearly twenty feet long each). It is night which won't affect most of the PCs and moonlight gives some visibility. I forgot to add the dogs go crazy barking at the lake-monster and the horses get very unsettled - are they all tied up? If not, all but warhorses will attempt to run away! If untied the dogs will run for the shore barking at the monster.

    What do the PCs do?

The old man's eyes widen and seem to light-up as he grasps the coin examining it with a grin, "Yeeesssss. I --" He sits up more as he looks out towards the center of the lake ---

    Everyone:

The surface of the lake begins to ripple and swirl violently -- then the large green-black scaled head of a massive reptilian monster breaks the surface! It's wicked inhuman eyes stare at the party as its head rises from the lake on a huge scaly neck that's more than twenty feet long! Then - another identical head thrusts from the water close to the first -- and a third snakes from under the water hissing at the nearby party! A monstrous three-headed water-dragon begins creeping from the center of the lake towards the adventurer's campsite snarling and its large sharp ivory teeth gnashing wildly!

  8. Apologies for the long wait - had to shake off the vacation AND get Parsool in my head.

I'll give the PCs a moment for whatever quick actions and/or discussion then update tomorrow.

  9. Parsool, Second City of Lemuria, evening

    Screenshot2023-10-11145544.png.009dbcba3c90e055afd6a72d02d69406.png

    Everyone:

After pushing their steeds across the rugged Lemurian plains within a few days - finally - the caravan catches sight of smoke from the hearths of great Parsool! Soon enough the spires of the ancient seaport come into sight as well as the Lysorians draw closer with their party of commissioned warriors in tow. The adventurers meet travelers passing away and tarrying around the outskirts of Parsool as the sun sets and lamplights begin illuminating the cityscape.

Parsool builds the finest galleys, and boasts the finest mariners. Parsool’s constant battle with pirates has meant massive tax increases in recent years, and the citizens are close to revolt. The current King is Zandar Bley. Parsool is a windy, winding, sprawling city, always with some kind of building work going on. The buildings of Parsool are mostly wooden – the poor live in clapboard terraces, while the rich live in buildings of ornately carved hardwoods. All roads seem to lead to the sea in Parsool, and the constant cries of the sea-birds sometimes drive visitors mad. The city itself is reached by the coastal road, so you see it long before you reach the main city gate (one of the eleven city gates, in all).

Although the nobles pretend otherwise, trade rules in Parsool. The richest merchants love to display their wealth by wearing sumptuous fabrics and draping themselves in jewels. Parsool envies Satarla but is constantly engaged in sea battles with pirates, causing ruin for many of the merchants of this otherwise bustling and diverse city. Parsool’s sea navy is the most powerful in Lemuria. The only reason Parsool has not yet challenged Satarla is due to that city’s Sky-Navy. However, Parsool’s navy does include the most powerful warship ever built – the mighty Glory of Parsool.

A great high wall of worked stone surrounded the metropolis as the caravan closed on a tall wide gateway manned by several imposing armored and armed guardsmen bearing the banner of Parsool on their bronze chestplates. Archers paced the upper ramparts of the city wall eyeing the terrain for anything suspicious as runner-boys went from wall-sconce to wall-sconce lighting exterior torches and lanterns. The smell of cooked foods, the city and the sea beyond washed over the adventurers as the sound of music and people past the wall met them as well.

    Screenshot2023-04-11115839.png.c8287158f05790823c8ef89baa04d62f.png

They nodded as the Lysorian caravan approached and one guardsman walked to meet the front drover. Words were exchanged then the guard waved the caravan through! The double-gate swung open with a metallic groan as the caravan's tired horses trotted from the fading outland grasses to the weathered cobblestone streetways of the city! The adventurers then saw the large crowds of people walking about Parsool's evening streets, many watching at the Lysorians entered - men, women, children, merchants, guardsmen and probably an untold combination of travelers exploring the seaside city. Some rather ragged looking folks ran up to the caravan waving and trying to touch the wagons - Khremel leaned out of the rearmost wagon's covering tarps and tossed gold coins out sending the urchins scrambling!

    Screenshot2023-10-11154801.png.8bdc9ca99308ae65fd72bd1984720b11.png

Street merchants hustled up to the passing wagons offering all manner of wares: clothing, jewelry, food, leashed animals - even attractive women stood and winked at the male adventurers -- it seemed Parsool had an infinite array of delights for those willing to indulge ...!

I just removed his throwing knife. He can buy one of those later. A riding horse would not be as well trained as a warhorse which is pretty big part of his build in how he interacts with his horse. He now has Arrows and 2 gold left over.

    Looks good 👍

The old man speaks to the Elven Hunter in High Elven, "Yesss. Now my friend, I need gold. One piece will suffice. If you are truly without, then a handful of silver. Quickly - I am fading, my friend ..."

  12. @darlis moonbeam Rhys is Charmed and must treat the old man as a trusted friend providing aid and protection for at least the next 24 hours.

Also I was wondering why you didn't have any gold: you bought a warhorse but forgot to buy arrows for you bow 🙄 Might want to fix that (you can switch to a riding horse and use the extra gold for arrows).

  13. Rhys turns into a frog! He now craves all manner of flying bugs! 😂 JK Get those bad rolls out early guys.

    I'll update later 👍

  14. Freedom City, around 8 p.m. (Day One)

    Ironworks:

Mike answers, "Yeah just get pizza - not that crap from Joey's down the block. Go to Mama Maria's around the way - the guys like her food. I don't wanna wake up tomorrow with fifteen cold pizzas in my living room, ya know? See ya when you get here, bro."
