  1. Desmond   "I keep to those who keep to me," Desmond answers.   "It seems you understand me better than I would have expected, but we are not comrades yet.    "Time will tell if your walk matches your talk, but for now you have my attention. If you have what you say you have, then you have my help, also, for what good it may do."
  2. So... Conaldar and I made peace and now I'm back, if the rest of the group doesn't find my presence too objectionable.
  3. I'm... not asking you to? I did know. I'm not complaining about it being there. It's just... not doing anything for me, and I couldn't really have known that til we got here. But yeah, I don't want to cause a bad time, so, off I go. Thanks for having me, and, good gaming to everyone.
  4. Honestly I'm increasingly feeling like the entire prison sequence is nonsense. At least for me. I see it's working for everyone else, but I personally can't engage with it. I find myself just kind of waiting for it to end.
  5. All I'm asking is that you not do this often. If that's really an issue, maybe I should drop; I'm in a good position to right now since I haven't had anything to interact with in a while anyway.   @cbenny -- Yeah I guess I'll have to save points for that from now on.
  6. Generally yes; I don't enjoy having my character's actions, opinions, reactions dictated. It feels like it takes away from my agency as a player. Like I said, I'm rolling with it this time, but I would really prefer this be a very rare thing going forward.
  7. I'm not fond of having dice dictate how I play, but I'll go along with it. Let's just not make a habit of these...
  8. @Oceane -- Best wishes, really. It was great playing with you.   @Conaldar -- Sorry for me going quiet, too. I was originally just waiting on Hecate, and then got busy with stuff IRL that kind of ate me. I'm still here, but I might need some assistance getting restarted.
  9. idk, I'm not really engaging with the whole prison sequence as much as I thought I would be.
  10. Desmond   He greets Julia's nudge with a nod of his own, adding his tray to the pile but not bussing them.   Instead he offers her a hand up, and perhaps a shoulder to lean on. It would hardly be the first time he's seen one of her fits leave her the worse for wear, so to speak.   "Which way do you want to go?" he asks. "We could go to the infirmary. At the very least you might find a bit of privacy there."
  11. In Desmond's eyes, Insurgency is too loose an organization to have or need a leader.
  12. I haven't figured out what Desmond's color should be yet. Suggestions welcome.
  13. Desmond   "Scylla, must you...?" He sighs as she picks a fight, and withdraws from the scuffle to sit beside Julia and tuck into his own meal. Muttering under his breath while he eats, he mumbles something about 'serve them right if she gives them all fleas.'
  14. Desmond   "A more ironically named man I've never met in my life," he muses. "I have to say, he's right. We don't make trouble the way he does. And you know what? I am damn proud of us for that. The less we have in common with a man-eating lunatic like him, the better I think we are doing, wouldn't you all say?"
  15. It did the same thing the first couple times. I kept trying and eventually it worked. Thanks much!
  16. Desmond    He lets out a sigh, and answers, "This whole situation is... less than ideal. So long as we are enough for each other, we will make it through."    It is, of course, not an offer he would make to just anyone, either, especially not in this place. As it happens, though, she is not just anyone. Not by any measure. So it is, his fingers start at her shoulders and work their way down, finding every spot he can think of where the fabric puts weight or pressure or motion against her skin and giving a scratch, at first gentle as feathers and then more firm, somewhere short of a massage but only just.     "Join me for some meditation later, during whatever passes for 'free time' around here. We'll see if we can find a state of mind that helps, too. Regardless, I have a suspicion that I want to talk to you about, away from prying ears."
  17. When the doors slide open, Desmond takes his time sliding to his feet. He pauses a moment to check his hair in the mirror, then folds his hands behind his back and strolls along with the guard-bots. Everything about his posture and the languid roll of his stride is balanced to make it look like the guard-bots are more like his personal honor-guard than there to guard against him.   Rejoining the others in the common room, he maintains his dignified saunter, making his way over to Julia. Only then does his unfold his hands from behind his back. "Have a bit of relief first?" he offers, holding out his hands in an offer to scratch her back for her. It might not help for long, but maybe it might make the discomfort a bit more bearable, at least long enough for her to enjoy a meal.    He pays their erstwhile audience no mind. Their time will come later. For now, seeing to a suffering friend is far more important.
  18. Wow that was beyond even the test I was thinking of and worked marvelously.   OGMW you can't nest OOC tags b/c they're mouse-over not click. This is the first feature I've seen here that I actually like better.
  19. On the other hand, OOC tags seem to be working; you could use those instead for now. What happens if you put a list of those inside one spoiler? If I click on one will it pop them all?
  20. In the same room as Oleg, another body rolls over, quirking one eye at him.  Desmond's voice sounds different without the mask. Not quite "James Earl Jones vs Hayden Christiansen" different, but different nonetheless. "Must you be so loud, Oleg? It's morning and my head feels like the wrong end of a weekend in Vegas." He yawns and stretches... and pauses, noticing that the now-long-familiar weight of the cuffs around his wrists is mysteriously gone. A wave of his hand - a familiar gesture for his teammates of him 'drawing the curtain' as he does when he is becoming his avatar - and... nothing. But of course; that would have been too easy. "You know, Oleg, an idea occurs to me. We know we were all sentenced to the same prison. Does that not seem a bit... convenient, to you? Keep your wits about you, my friend; I suspect this place may not be entirely what it seems."
  21. Desmond would agree to help Hecate with some meditation and/or just try to help keep her distracted. At least until those things aren't enough.
  22. Vesanius - Desmond - feels naked without his mask, but otherwise isn't panicking about not having his powers. He understands that, given the kind of charges they were facing, ten years is a slap on the wrist. So long as he's able to read and write, he has something to do. (Expect him to be producing a political screed at least once a week.)   As for how they caught a guy who is never where he appears to be? The first thing that comes to mind for me would be saturation bombing with comic-book-logic knockout gas.   Also they probably "caught" his avatar an embarrassing number of times first. And every time they whipped off the mask there was a different face underneath. Including the hero who caught him, once. Whipped the mask off, ended up looking into his own face on live streams. He would've pulled this on somebody with a personality akin to Spider-Man; i.e. somebody whose ideals he doesn't hate and who would appreciate the joke.
