History:

Lara was barely old enough to know her father before he died. Her memories of him are just disjointed images really, his warm smile, the big hands that held her up so gently, flying over the plains riding on his back. These were the days of the Gyrich administration and the rising anti-mutant storm, people who undoubtedly would have considered Lara as at best no different then a mutant, but perhaps something much much worse. Certainly those mired in their delusions of humanity's past had nothing but hate for the Man of Tomorrow or any other alien, even if mutants made easier and more plentiful victims, and knew that their was perhaps no single greater obstacle to their plans.

Lara would not witness her father's death either. Whisked away from Metropolis she wound up in the care of her maternal grandfather on a certain former farm in the middle of Kansas. Lara saw little of her mother in those years.

Associated Characters and Brief Modified Histories:

  • Superman: Sometimes called the first superhero, though more accurately perhaps the first to receive widespread media attention Lara's father had been active since before WWII but even as he approached fifty years of uninterrupted service showed no signs of aging or slowing down. Physically at least, the upheavals of the 60s and 70s found the Man of Steel struggling ideologically against rising figures with vastly different views of what constituted "truth, justice, and the American way" even before Gyrich and his ilk came to power. Yet if his public image dimmed somewhat he was still easily among the world's most beloved heroes, his city of Metropolis was the safest in the nation even, and his personal life was one of great joy as Clark Kent married and became a father. When the Sentinels launched they filled Metropolis' skies but the men of steel did not engage Superman directly. Instead they released the monster Doomsday, a beast they could not control but managed to find sleeping in the Earth. Only when the veteran Superman defeated the beast did they move in for the kill.
  • Lois Lane: Began working for the Daily Planet in the 1960s, and made her name as an investigative reporter. Famously, and finally, demystified the Superman in a series of award winning interviews, breaking down his once famous reluctance to engage with the press. She never told the world how she discovered his identity fairly early, and Clark and Lois formed a successful partnership for many years. Finally agreed to marry the poor man in the mid-70s. After her husband's death she became an early leader of the resistance and saw little of her daughter in this time before dying when Lara was 8 years old under unclear circumstances.
  • Jimmy Olsen: Last of the Daily Planet mainstays still alive, living retired and greatly aged in Florida. Stayed a photographer for a series of publications. Never became a resistance fighter but still some of the most famous unauthorized photos of the late 80s and 90s came from his lens. Lara visits him every once in awhile and he delights in telling her stories of the good 'ol days.
  • Lex Luthor: Reinvented himself from 'mad' scientist to corporate mogul near the turn of the Millennium, courtesy of a clone body. Lex Corp is a household name and his its founder the face of everything the Sentinels made great about America again. All lies though. Beneath his socially acceptable and extremely successful façade there is one burning truth Lex will never forget nor forgive: they took Superman from him. Whatever he's planning it won't be good for the Sentinels and their supporters, whether it is good for anyone else is another question. Has tried several times to recruit Lara but she doesn't know what he's after so has turned him down every time.
