Change Shape (Kitsune) action_single_black.png (Concentrate, Polymorph, Primal, Transmutation) You transform into a specific alternate form determined by your heritage. If your heritage doesn’t list a form, your alternate form is a tailless form, which is a common Medium humanoid ancestry prevalent where you grew up (typically human). This form is the same age and body type as your true form and has roughly analogous physical traits, such as hair color. Using Change Shape counts as creating a disguise for the Impersonate use of Deception. You lose any unarmed Strikes you gained from a kitsune heritage or ancestry feat in this form. You can remain in your alternate form indefinitely, and you can shift back to your true kitsune form by using this action again.

Background: Children of privilege are easily prone to entitlement. When your House motto is "Ours Is the Right," that tendency may be understandably more prevalent. Unfortunately, tantrums and sulking make deft scheming rather difficult. When House Surtova finds a way to balm the capricious hearts of their offspring, then, they're quick to adopt it. Or, if "the way" happens to be a bright-eyed boy who makes a young minor noble of the house smile when he has been implacably maudlin, they adopt him. That's how little nobody Deslov Novik came to live in a noble manor.

The young lord was less moody, but never did grow deft at social graces. Another point in Deslov's favor: he seemed to have the perfect tale or quip to cast his noble friend in the best light at every function. The diplomats of the house even dubbed him the lord's "personal miracle," a title which always brought an inexplicably amused grin to Deslov's features. When "miraculous" Deslov found a gift for magic, sometimes instead of a quip, a spell did the casting. Many were the times a clever bit of magic cleared up dribbled wine or a bit of the ginger fur which mysteriously wound up on so many of the lord's doublets. Deslov gained strong favor with the house, and became the young lord's boon companion. The two were practically inseparable.

When House Surtova secured an especially advantageous political marriage for the lord, the powers that be began to wonder if perhaps some separation might not be wise. Tongues are prone to wag, after all. And a jaunt in the "Stolen Lands" was a wonderful opportunity for Deslov to gather a whole new set of ripping yarns he could use to regale the gentry. When he returned. After the young lord managed himself a proper heir. To each their noble duty for House Surtova, yes?

Deslov smiled and bowed and said all the things they expected of him. It was a foolish fox who thought he could raid the farmer's coop forever. Even a fox with an angel's face and the rooster's favor. Deslov set off for the Stolen Lands, but not for capricious promises from the head of a noble house which made its reputation by scheming. Deslov had other plans to fulfill with his bright smile and his shadowy steps and the fire in his belly. The only way to have unfettered access to the coop, after all, was to be the farmer.

Babbling on the concept

Given their trickster roots, I love the idea of a Kitsune character who's full of contradictions to keep people on their toes. That lead me to the idea of 'lightbringer' Aasimar heritage paired with a character who's growing into mastering shadowy magics (Shadowdancer archetype).

I toyed with Angelic or Shadow bloodlines, but Phoenix was another concept that tickled my 'full of contradictions' concept bone: their first level focus spell is fire that burns some people and heals others in an arbitrary mix that's basically at the whim of the caster. Best to stay on the fox's good side for whenever he casts it. :p

Right now, since Shadowdancer is a later-level archetype, I'm planning for Dandy archetype in the early levels. It fits his background as handily navigating parties and politics at the same time. It also sets up another fun juxtaposition: bright shiny "diplomat" by day, sneaky sneak in the dark. If the party needs more healing, I also thought about the Blessed One archetype, which trades a bit more on his Aasimar blood to play up the light-and-shadow motif. I can still have him act like a dandy even if he isn't mechanically one, heh.
