A cleric or paladin may create holy water by performing a special ritual. The ritual takes 1 hour to perform, uses 25 gp worth of powdered silver, and requires the caster to expend a 1st-level spell slot.

We need to get out hands on a horse or someting and just put it all on that.

I will admit that I've been scarred away from getting mules because of bad experiences (bad DM?) from my early days of D&D:

DM: You arrive at the cave. Your mules won't be able to go with you.
Players: we leave the mules at the entrance.
(After a while, characters get out of the cave)
DM: Your mules have wandered off, never to be seen again.

DM: You arrive at the cave. Your mules won't be able to go with you.
Players: we tie the mules at the entrance so they can't wander off.
(After a while, characters get out of the cave)
DM: Your mules have been eaten by wolves and couldn't run away because they were tied.

(In combat)
DM: Round 1! The creatures / enemies attack your mules.

DM: You arrive at the inn.
Players: we leave the mules in the stable.
(The next morning)
DM: Your mules have been stolen.

That is... so, so incredibly petty, holy crap. I'm genuinely so sorry for you having to deal with that when you're literally trying to have fun, sweet christ-

Yeah, I won't say animals won't be targeted in a fight or stolen, especially if someone is riding them to great effect to advertise them as a good target, but to have that happen several times in the same game is super lame.

I mean the 3rd one at least is a pretty good deal. 10gp for a wasted enemy action that keeps you alive?

But yeah, sounds rough. Either make it clear that carrying your stuff and limited resources is an intention with no circumvention (boring, but honest at least), or allow you to solve the problem.

Threatening them - or having additional puzzles because of them - is fun occasionally, but not every single encounter.
