Short History

Sarah and her partner located the small vault by the regular depression in the ground above it. Laboriously digging their way through the collapsed entrance they found no power and no inhabitants bigger than rats. Once inside, while breaking into a locked room to recover medicines, they felt the whole vault shift. When her partner went to investigate, the whole entranceway collapsed on him, trapping her inside. Her radiation alarm went off and was going up so quickly she knew she didn't have enough time to dig her way out before it killed her.

"Fortunately" there were ampules of F.E.V. in the medical locker. Provides temporary to permanent immunity to radiation, they say. She knew better. But it was either an agonizing death by radiation, or the drugs. She chose life.

Much of life was a blur after that, and she doesn't remember much of what happened, or much of her early life, or what year it is. She hunted rats for food, drunk from the mildly glowing underground river (which is maybe what caused the whole vault to collapse, but she just can't remember the architecture she studied). Many a year later she was finally aware of a more human emotion: loneliness. With her newly trained muscles she slowly dug her way out and once again stood in the open sunlight...

Appearance / Personality

Sarah stands well over seven feet tall, but she's normally proportioned and it isn't until they get close that people can tell how large she is. On her bluish-grey face she wears an incomprehensible expression, the product of many years spent alone with the F.E.V. She tends to be a bit miserly with the food she catches for herself, but perhaps if you show her some generosity she'll repay it.

How did you get here? Who in New Vegas connected you to Doc Mitchell?

Sarah was walking South, and coming across a rise looked down at a road and a group people walking on it. It's the first people she's seen since she left the shelter, and she went down to peaceably say hello and ask if she could travel with them. To the Doc, at least, she seemed honest, and he didn't have any serious muscle in the team, so he agreed.

 

What does your character like to be called?

Sarah. She doesn't volunteer a last name.

 

What is one moment from your past when you lost something important to you and what did you lose?

She lost her partner in the cave-in at the shelter. He was a domineering, controlling man. They traveled alone and only saw other people when he thought it was necessary. Maybe he was a mistake. Especially now after the change, when her memories of the past are so dim that he's the only person she even remembers.

 

What is one moment from your past when you were pushed too far and how did you react?

She was pushed into using the virus. She didn't stop to think whether it was the right choice. It was the only choice. So she got on with it and acted before she gave herself time to say no. She'd done the same before with drugs she didn't understand, when she needed something to fight off disease or infection, but this was the most serious of them all.

 

What happened the last couple of days to bring you to this point?

She's been walking South since leaving the shelter, only her way to Vegas. It was the biggest thing on the map in the shelter, and she wanted to reach out to other people. There was a hole lot of nothing in before she got there, and no one until today.

 

What does your character look like at this moment and what is their demeanor?

Sarah is dressed in a ragged hooded cloak and boots. The cloak keeps the sun off and hides the appearance of her mostly hairless mutant head. She isn't inclined to take her hood off. When she lets the cloak hang open, it shows the cobbled-together armor she's wearing from her chest down to her feet. She has a long gun slung over her shoulder, and her walking stick has a rather nasty looking sharpened spike near the top.

Her facial expressions are hard to read after the change and having not been around other humans for many years (she hasn't counted them), but it's clear from her words that she's pleased to see other people again. She's willing to go along with what others ask of her, as long as they don't ask or demand she give them her stuff. In the only other human relationship she remembers, she was always being told what to do, and she's reverting to form. It soon becomes clear that she's inclined to do risky things assuming they'll work out for the best, and maybe she's so tough she can just manage to get away from the result in one piece.
