Description

This gnome looks a little old man with wrinkled skin, and a long, dirty white beard and hair.  Under bushy white eyebrows, his violet eyes twinkle with curiosity and constant pondering indicating scholarly training, which you know is necromancy.  In casual conversation, you know he studied and worked at a Black Academy as a necromancer. Now after years in slavery, his delicate, ink-stained hands are heavily calloused, as are his feet that have never endured such constant hard labor in his life.

Personality

Besel has a love of knowledge that borders on obsession, a curiosity that admits no limits, and a vast collection of potentially useful information on every personal acquaintance. He detests physical violence and prefers to solve his problems with ideas and words. He gives an initial impression as a friendly busybody, always ready to lend a hand or share a story, while asking questions that tend toward the slightly-too-personal. Often, though, his cheerful and amiable demeanor obfuscates methodically adding to a mental storehouse of knowledge that might one day provide important leverage.

Backstory

Besel Wibble Wobble was born and raised in Caithness.  He lost his mother to disease when he was young and has been obsessed with the magic of death ever since.  His family encouraged his interest and sponsored him into a Black Academy.

A decade after he graduated and worked as an academic researcher (I won't bore you with the details that you would not understand anyway), his family came to him with a scheme that required him to smuggle restricted books outside the library.  The family organized secret scribes to copy the books.  The authorities discovered the scheme within a year.  Besel was kicked out of the Academy and sentenced to slavery.

Knowing that he would lose his spellbook and arcane focus, he carefully selected the spells that he would prepare.  After release from slavery, he wants to somehow return to his research.
