-Origin Benefit (Expert Knowledge): When you choose this Origin, select an area of study covered by a Smarts skill (Science[Acoustics]). When you succeed on a Skill Test in your area of study, you gain an additional benefit (such as greater information, additional healing, more potent effects) as if you rolled a critical success. If your critically succeed in your area of study, you gain two additional benefits instead of one.

Influences:

-Professional (Initial Influence):

Perk: When you choose this Influence, choose your previous career (Job involving sonar and sounds). You gain an Edge on Smarts and Social Skill Tests when performing tasks related to that career or interacting with members of that profession.

Hang-Up: None due to being chosen as initial Influence

-Specialist:

Perk: When you choose this Influence, select a skill you have a Specialization in (Technology[Sound]). Once per encounter when using that skill outside of combat, you gain an Edge.

Hang-Up: Your natural gifts and vast experience in one thing have left you knowing virtually nothing about other skills. Once per session when you would roll with a Snag, you automatically fail instead. You can suggest when this comes into play, but it's your GM's call.

-Gearhead:

Perk: You're at home with the software and hardware of machines, and quickly find shared footing with others devoted to how stuff works. You gain an Edge of Social Skill Tests when talking about technology with others, or when helping others work on them.

Hang-Up: You're fascinated with new technology, and when faced with it, you find it difficult to focus on anything else until you understand how it works. When dealing with new technology, you suffer a Snag on all rolls until you gain at least a basic understanding of how it works (usually a turn or more).

Role: Technician

-Perks:

Be A Hero (Quick Study): Once per scene, you may use a Free action to learn the Toughness, Evasion, Willpower or Cleverness score of a target that you can see.

Essence Increase: +1 Smarts and +1 Speed

Roll Skills: Gain one rank in two skills from the following: Science (chosen), Technology, Driving and Initiative (chosen)

Battle Cry: In the first round of combat, if your first action is a Move action, you may add an additional 10 feet to your movement.

-Primary Tech: At 1st level, choose the type of advanced technology you employ most frequently. You gain benefits of your choice, and can advance your technology as you level up. In addition to your Primary Tech's Standard functions, you can use your Primary Tech to make Technology Skill Tests.

Weapon: You are Qualified in a limited weapon of your choice, and can choose a Standard weapon upgrade as a free upgrade during Equipment Assignment and Requisition.

Focus: Expert

-Perks:

Field: +1 Smarts at 1st level, and again at 10th level. Skill point from this improvement must be placed in Culture, Science, or Technology (chosen). Additionally, choose a Culture, Science, or Technology Specialization, even if you do not have a rank in that Specialization (Technology[Sound] chosen). This is your Field. Anytime a Technician perk refers to the Technology skill, you instead use your Field for this Skill Test, including applying your Specialization bonus if any.

Appearance: Sylvio stands at a height of 5'6" feet and weights 180 lbs. He has short red hair, blue eyes with rimmed glasses and pale skin. He wears a buttoned up dark blue shirt with a green vest on top, a pair of brown pants with a dark brown belt around the waist and a pair of black sneakers. When on a mission, he replaces his vest for a protective bullet proof vest, his pants for outdoor camo jeans and carries his specialized sound rifle with him.

Personality: Sylvio is a very curious person, easily getting tunnel vision when it comes to things that interest him. That happens to be technology in his case. As a result, he tends to appear to be a quiet person most of the time, unless he talks about tech which in case, Sonar starts rambling excitedly about it, almost appearing as if he was bouncing out of excitement. But the fact that he accepted being enlisted into GI Joe shows he has a sense of right and wrong, joining to ensure any technology won't be misused and/or turned into a weapon for the purpose to harm innocents.

Background: Sylvio was born to two city clerks in New York, both parents being children of Latino immigrants. Growing up in Staten Island, he quickly took to technology at an early age. From getting a video game console at the age of 5 to getting his first computer at the age of 11 and so on, it was easy to see where his future career would be. But it wasn't until he was 14 that he managed to narrow down into what type of tech and science when his dad first introduced him to what would be his first favorite radio station. There, he heard what would be his first favorite song and later that day, a friend at school gave him a late birthday present.

It was a tape player, the latest model and a pair of headphones. What was missing was a tape to play with so his friend gave him an empty one and told him to record whatever he wanted. While Silvio later managed to get the tape of his favorite techno band, he messed around with the empty tape a lot, recording things that got his attention and even using it in class to help him remember important subjects for his test. The next year, he managed to get a cheap sound equipment that let him mess with sound frequencies. So it was no surprise that when he got into college, his courses were calibrations, electronics and radio, specializing in the science of acoustics.

After graduating, he obtained a job at a major firm specializing in using sound equipment and got himself assigned to the sonar department. Seven years he worked there, helping to create a new type of sonar, one that's more precise and could even be miniaturized for commercial use. Sylvio's intention was to give blind people a way to move around without needing to use implements like canes, at least indoors. The technology had potential for a lot more, which is why it got the attention of Extensive Enterprises. A visit from Xamot Paoli, who came offering to buy the rights to the research, including the research team.

Yet the manager in charge refused, unfazed by the subtle threats coming from Xamot. Watching her stare the businessman down before he finally walked away gave Sylvio some newfound respect for her. But that was not the end for a week later, the firm ended up being assaulted by a group calling themselves the Crimson Guard. The attack had gone almost too well and the group Sylvio was a part of saw why when one of the other scientist, one who started at the same time working there as him, gave them the data and told them where everything else was placed or hidden from view.

As the Crimson Guard ransacked the room, Sylvio saw the experimental sound rifle nearby, called that because it fired sonar waves. He originally made it like this as a prototype to study focusing sonar blips, but used the distraction to make some minor adjustments. One of the guard immediately saw what he was doing and Sylvio fired the first one in his sights. One of the Crimson Guard collapsed from the sound attack, which also heralded the ambush from their rescuers, the Joes. He and the other scientists were led to safety and the Guard driven away. Once the coast was clear, Sylvio was surprised to see that one of the Joes, Scarlet had actually been the manager in charge of the research.

They had received a tip about a year ago about the research and the Crimson Guard's interest in it. Thankfully, they had been able to stop most of it from being taken, but one of the Joes there, codenamed Sci-fi, had told him off for his stunt, telling him he was being reckless, despite it being what gave them the opening to ambush the guard since they were distracted from the hostages as a result. Still, he then surprised the young scientist by giving him an offer. Join the Joes and help them in the fight against the Crimson Guard's bosses, Cobra.

Sylvio thought for a moment and asked for some time... Because he needed to get his affairs in order if he was to join. Having seen what happened and learning there was a group after tech that was meant to help people gave him a bad taste in his mouth, and here he was being offered recruitment by an organization made to stop said people. Thankfully, Scarlet chipped in and said she can make the process smoother. And this was how the 26 year old sound researcher joined GI Joe. As for his callsign, it came from the Joes jokingly calling him Sonar due to his research in it, a name he decided to wear with pride.
