Paladin Class Abilities

Divine SenseThe presence of strong evil registers on your senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in your ears. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover. You know the type (celestial, fiend, or undead) of any being whose presence you sense, but not its identity (the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich, for instance). Within the same radius, you also detect the presence of any place or object that has been consecrated or desecrated, as with the hallow spell.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to 1 + your Charisma modifier. When you finish a long rest, you regain all expended uses.

Lay on HandsYou can cast a wizard spell as a ritual if that spell has the ritual tag and you have the spell in your spellbook. You don't need to have the spell prepared.

Divine SmiteBeginning when you select this tradition at 2nd level, the gold and time you must spend to copy a void spell into your spellbook is halved.

When you gain a level, one of the two spells you learn for gaining a level can be a void magic spell, even if you’ve never encountered the spell before. Similarly, when you learn a new cantrip, it can be a void magic cantrip, even if you’ve never previously encountered it.

Fighting Style (Interception)Starting at 2nd level, as a bonus action immediately before you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you can utter a few words of void speech and weave its dark magic into your spell. The tainted spell disorients one creature you can see that the spell affects when you cast it. The creature has disadvantage on the next attack roll or ability check it makes before the start of your next turn. You can’t use this feature if you are unable to speak.

DarkvisionAccustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen SensesYou have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Fey AncestryYou have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.

TranceElves don't need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is "trance.") While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Cunning IntuitionWhen you make a Charisma (Performance) or Dexterity (Stealth) check, you can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the ability check.

Shape ShadowsYou know the minor illusion cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the invisibility spell once with this trait, and you regain the ability to cast it when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Backstory

Iymbryl was training to join the the Solei Palancis long before he heard the news. Lamruil, his father, had been slain in the line of duty, a solider of the Valgari Palancis, the veiled legion. This second, unspoken legion was something Shaaladel had created to feed him information over the years, to learn when and where to strike. Lamruil had been instrumental to the creation of the legion, the first Shaaladel had personally trained and sent to Gate Pass. Both Shaaladel and his daughter Shalosha attended the funeral. It was there Iymbryl met Shalosha for the first time, and begged her for a favor. He wanted to leave the Solei Palancis and take his father's place in the Valgari Palancis, to discover who had murdered his father and why. Shaaladel refused, but Shalosha saw something in Iymbryl and convinced her father to send him. Iymbryl completed the 30 years of training required to join the Valgari Palancis in a mere 6, secretly determined to the point of obsession to avenge his father.

Iymbryl came to the city to find his father's killer and avenge him. He took up a position in the City Guard, his training and penchant for organization helping him climb the ranks quickly. It was only 6 months before he was given access to the hall of records in Gate Pass, where he was able to confirm the rumors about how his father had died. Olvyn Tallindor...He attempted a coup within the city and Lamruil had died trying to stop him. He also discovered that Olvyn Tallindor was still alive, incarcerated in Gate Pass.

When Iymbryl wasn't able to get close enough to the man, he began to switch tactics. He soon discovered Olvyn had a young daughter, Yveran. At first his intent was to murder her to exact his revenge, but as she lay there, drunk and unconscious (not to mention underage for drinking in a tavern), he couldn't bring himself to do something so cowardly. Instead he carried her home. It was only then he began to understand what her home life was like, and started to realize Olvyn had ruined her life as well. Over time, they became friends, bonding over their mutual dislike of Olvyn.

Now with a with direction, he started working toward gaining a high enough rank to oversee high profile prisoners like Olvyn. While he had once dreamed of becoming a griffon rider, he set all of that aside to pursue his revenge. And just three weeks ago, his efforts finally paid off. Olvyn had been let out as an advisor to the Council due to his knowledge of Ragesia. There were horrible rumors about the man, and it wasn't hard for Iymbryl to secure himself a spot among Olvyn's overseers. Everyday he would escort the man, and at night he would plot his revenge...
