spacer.pngFukimi Watanabe (富貴美 渡辺), a.k.a. “Kimmy Tanner”

A former geisha in the town of Sakakabe in distant Minkai, the tiefling Fukimi developed a love affair with her client who served as a samurai for a minor daimyo in the province's Sankyodai mountains.

For his open defiance and criticism of the Jade Throne's policies, the daimyo and his forces were beseiged upon by an overwhelming army from Kasai, forcing Fukimi and her newlywed husband to flee from their home country.

After many months on the run, the pair arrived in Mendev, eventually settling in the city of Kenabres in 4690AR. When Khorramzadeh's demon horde breached the border from the Worldwound only two years later, Fukimi pleaded with her husband not to join the fight, remembering the horrors of the massacre which caused their exodus from Minkai as though it was yesterday.

But she knew her pleas fell on deaf ears, for her husband was bound by the samurai code, and his honour drove him to lay down his life in defense of innocent others that day at the beginning of what would later come to be known as the Fourth Mendevian Crusade.

Before he left however, Fukimi's husband made her vow to cherish her life. And so she did. When she had finally finished mourning her love's great sacrifice, Fukimi remembered one evening the happiest times of her life, the days when their love was still beginning to blossom among the opulence and grandeur of the karyūkai in her hometown. Inspired by her memory of the oiran courtesans, whose covetous ranks were forever forbidden to her simply by virtue of her fiendish birth, Fukimi endeavoured to emulate their refined mannerism and skills of diplomacy, and set out to build an establishment she hoped would one day rival the celebrity of the traditional ochaya from her distant home.

Today, the Honeyed Blackmoor Café offers fragrant drinks and delicate snacks to its clientele, but the real selling point is the company and conversation provided by her serving girls, offering many a lonely crusader a much-needed if temporary respite from the ravages of a terrible war.
