Hunter Creation

It’s important to note, especially if you’re newer to Monster of the Week, that there is a heavier emphasis on how your Hunter relates to the others on your team. Mysteries are a team effort and your team will have a history of solving mysteries together. Our first mystery together will not be their first mystery.

 

The history will be the first thing determined once the players and their chosen Hunter are selected.

 

All Playbooks that are fully available within Monster of the Week or Tome of Mysteries are permitted for use. The core rulebook, Monster of the Week, technically lists others, but due to version updates, the playbooks are hard to find or missing, so I’m keeping it simple. This link will take you to the downloadable Playbooks which will guide you through creation.

 

Once you've chosen your Playbook and gotten to the Introductions part, write up a concise backstory about them and create a new topic/thread and introduce them, making sure to also include the specific stats, moves, gear, and Playbook specific selections.

 

Regarding backstory, leave some specifics vague or hold them loosely because you may need to alter aspects of the backstory once the history part of Hunter creation starts. If you’re new to Monster of the Week, history will be determined by each player choosing a history option from their Playbook and assigning one to each other player's Hunter. So, it’s possible a certain decision will change some aspect of your original backstory. In my experience, it has always resulted in a richer team dynamic.

 

If you have a picture to share, awesome! If not, but you want to, you could use https://artflow.ai/. Another alternative is to cast someone as your character. This is not a requirement; it's simply an extra tool available to showcase your Hunter as you see them.

 

TL;DR Create a new topic under Applications and introduce your Hunter by including your backstory and selections chosen on the Playbook.
