“There is yet a time where I will repay all you've done to me. Your foot will slip, your calamity will come, and vengeance will be mine."

Elre Baltoris

Class: Druid

Race: Elf

Deity: Chislev

Alignment: True Neutral (Swings between Good & Evil)

Height: 5’ 6”

Weight: 140 lbs.

Character Goals

- Elre wants to kill Zysstastix for burning down his home, Moro Taesi. Whatever he has to do to kill the dragon will be worth it.
- Elre also wants to recover his ties to his lost family, who he's never met.
-  I would like to see Elre learn to make a new family with the group, and learn that you can make a family with who you choose rather than who life throws at you.

Secrets

- Elre has killed many times, and is not afraid to do so. This may come back to bite him, and he knows it.
- Someone from his past (see character ties below) is (to him, at least) dead or missing, and maybe they come back for various reasons. Dealer's Choice.

Personality

Elre is an enigma. At one point, he was a laughing, jovial, happy elf who revelled in the festivals of his clan mates, clung to his studies of the astronomical signs, and lived every moment with joy and song. He doted on his daughter, and cared for her every whim. Now, he is a hollow shell of what he used to be.

After the destruction of his grove, Moro Taesi, his life is bleak and hopeless. His thoughts are consistently on saving his daughter by whatever means necessary, even selling his soul. He is always expecting danger, always mistrusting those who come before him, and always believing his death is near. He is angry at the gods for letting this happen to his clan and friends.

Despite all of his depression and anger, he is capable of joy. He fiercely protects his friends (when he has them), and will protect the innocent (especially children), even if that means brutally slaughtering anyone who threatens them or gets in his way.

Appearance

Elre stands taller than the average elf and has a moderate build. His thin body is muscled not for brute strength, but from years of being on the road, wandering to find housing and jobs. His once lustrous blonde hair is streaked with grey from stress and no longer has it's sheen. His once bright blue eyes new seem a dull blue-grey.

He wears armor made from the scales of some long dead beast; even he doesn't really know what it is, but he assumes lizard, serpent, or dragon. Any magic in the armor is long-since gone, leaving old, dark scales. A bright green cloak dangles from his shoulders, and a small totem hangs from a necklace--a gift from his daughter, and allegedly a good luck charm. He wears no shield, and carries only an ornate staff, which seems to be constantly in bloom with pink flowers atop it (an oddly bright spot on such a bleak man). He doesn't carry any other weapon, choosing to rely on his magic and spells to see him through.

Character Ties

- Daughter: Eilae Baltoris, Currently in the care of healers, in a coma, maybe cursed.
- Former Mentor: Thranduil Syndarin: Presumed dead, hopefully alive.
- Former Lover: Amarië Baltoris: Left Elre alone with daughter decades ago.
- Zysstastix, the Eternal: Red Dragon responsible for ruining everything.

Background

One hundred-ten years ago, a young elf was found by a clan of Kagonesti who lived in the forests along the mountain range that split most of the island of Southern Ergoth. This boy, approximately twenty years old at the time, was found nearly naked in the forest, covered in elven blood, battered, bruised, and lying half-dead from exhaustion, starvation, and dehydration. Thranduil Syndarin, a mighty druid, found him and nurtured the boy back to life.

In the years to follow, many search attempts were made to find his family, but none were successful. He could not remember them, nor could he really describe them. His apparent injuries had left him with severe amnesia, and he was unable to recall even a fraction of his life before the event. He couldn’t even recall how old he was, or what his name was. Thranduil even took him to neighboring cities in the area—an impossible feat for a Kagonesti who hated modern living—searching for his lost parents. None ever took him in. Thranduil had mercy on him again, and he took the boy as his apprentice/child, naming him Elre.

Elre showed natural talent with druidic magic, and was apparently naturally gifted to study magic, leading many of the Kagonesti to believe that Elre was Silvanesti. This was proven true as he aged, showing the fair skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes of a “High Elf” (A slur they often called him in jest). Despite the mistrusting nature of the Kagonesti, Elre was well-loved by everyone in the clan. He carried the reputation of Thranduil—who was popular by Kagonesti standards—and demonstrated his own brand of love and compassion that infected all around him.

As an adult, he carried out the duties of a driud’s apprentice. He aided in rituals, offered healing to the injured, defended Moro Taesi from the occasional raider & animal. He developed his own powerful brand of magic. He interited a love for the stars and astronomical signs from his Sylvanesti blood. He learned the Kagonesti legends and stories of old, and interpreted the weal and woe of the gods through the signs in the heavens. He even learned about love.

Amarië Baltoris, one of the great warrior women of the clan, caught his eye as a young adult. They became fast friends, and developed a close bond, developing a loving, trusting relationship. They experienced many of life’s greatest pleasures together, and soon were married, with Elre taking her last name, as he had none to give. They soon bore a daughter and started a family of their own.

While their relationship had lasted well into marriage, the responsibilities of parenthood, an ever-increasing load of responsibilities, and the woes of life caught up with them. Thurandil was getting much older, and left Elre to do many of his tasks, since Elre was so gifted a druid. Amarië had advanced as a warrior to become one of the clan’s greatest fighters, but felt tied down as a mother raising a child. The two argued constantly, Amarië became violent and abusive, and Elre received the brunt of the pain. Amarië would hunt in the day and come home to abuse and beat Elre at night. Eilae, their daughter, would receive harsh punishments from her mother, who resented the girl for “taking away her life.”

When the Baltoris elders found out about the abuse, Amarië was exiled, and cast out of the clan and the family, never to be seen again. Elre and Eilae held on together, and lived life without a wife and mother, respectively. Having his daughter made the situation easier for Elre, who loved that girl more than his very life.

As the years drew on by, everything seemed. The clan was growing strong, life was (relatively) easy, Elre and Eilae had worked out their system without Amarië present, and all was well. Even as the chaos of Takhisis and her minions descended upon the world, their family and clan were strong.

Everything changed when a great dragon made its perch upon the forest and mountains and laid waste to everything. Over the course of a few months, he feasted upon the animals until the elves were starving, he pillaged and destroyed the land until nothing remained, and when he had stripped the forest of everything, he descended upon the elves one fateful night. Very few survived the event. The dragon ate many of them, slew others, destroyed their most powerful warriors, and annihilated everything. There was no rebuilding the clan. They had scattered like mice in the daylight.

Elre pulled himself out of the smoldering rubble of his home, holding his daughter, and travelled to Silvamori, where he found help. Though the healers there did what they could, his daughter was still nonresponsive. As more refugees from the disaster poured into the city, it became apparent that the elves would soon have to relocate, unless something was done about Zysstastix the Eternal, the dragon who had attacked them.

From Silvamori, Elre began his work to right this wrong and find a way to destroy Zysstastix. He had gotten word of a powerful group of adventurers in the area and knew that they might be his only hope. With a general idea of where they were and living only on hope, he set out to find them.

I am finished. I have taken some creative liberties. I came up with a name & chose a color for the dragon that destroyed Elre's home, but that can be changed to whatever would work well for you.

I also took some creative liberties, so if anything conflicts with the setting just let me know. I am not very well versed in Dragonlance lore. This is all assuming I get in.
