New Beginnings - Dangerous Brew

Jack's first day as a detective at the 13th was not meant to start like this. He didnt expect fanfare or a cake. But he had at least expected to be able to make introductions and meet the rest of the bullpen in a far different capacity.  Instead he was sitting in a cold server room at a brewery.  Somehow Koul-Brau Breweries had managed to become the victim of a cyber attack. Their servers had been subject to ransomware and the threat of corporate sabotage. If they didnt pay the set amount in a set time frame, all sorts of company documents would be released online for the public.  Financial records down to trademarked company recipes.  Shaw had happened to be the closest detective to the brewery when the 13th got the official call.  And so to have an official detective on scene to maintain the "crime scene" as it were, he'd drawn the short straw.   Information Crimes had gotten an initial hard drive with a copy of the virus software to take back to the lab to start poking out.  Eventually there would be the techs responding out to work on-site or remove more hardware for testing.  If the Koul-Brau wasnt associated with LexCorp the city probably wouldnt be putting this much effort into showing concern.  LexCorp however meant money for the city.

So Jack got to sit around and be subjected to the smell of barley and hops fermenting from the other side of the factory building.  At least he wasn't alone though.  There were two uniformed patrol officers from the 13th were also on site as well with him to maintain the custody of the servers.  Jesse Reese and Richard Grayson.

"Beer, beer all around me and not a drop to drink..."

He spoke softly to the other two patrol officers, eliciting a small commiserating chuckle from one as he looked up at the vast vats of brew and the decidedly less exciting computer room.  They had spread out and done the obvious, putting up markers around the area, trying to minimize any clumsy ham-handed yokels or officers touching the servers.  Beyond that, it was babysitting and he wasn't a huge fan of sitting around, hurry up and wait.  Especially being already behind the curve meeting the rest of the detectives.

"Ah shit....oh well Duty first, right?"

"We can't let the computer nerds do all the work.  Since we're sitting around, ought to do some work on the clock right?  Everyone is assuming its an outside attack, but we're going to do this the right way.

Reese, let's see if we can get a list of everyone who has access to this area.  HR or security will have a list of all employees, then compare that to people who have computer badges here to the locks.  Also check if anyone reported a missing or duplicated ID; people lose @#$% like that all the time.  While it likely won't show anything, it'll save them some time for investigating.  People are the weakest point in security...so lets see if someone did something stupid and let in a 'friend'.  Grayson, let's have you check with the manager or whatever and see if we can get some camera feeds for the area around here and the rest of the building.  Let's see if someone was doing some late night computer work locally.  Maybe someone helping said outside friend get access.

Again, doubt we will find anything, but just trying to look for other leads we can use.  I'll take a look around the server room here itself.  Computer folks are going to focus on the computer stacks.  Let's see if we find anything else interesting.  Like stuff that isn't supposed to be here in the first place.  Any questions?  Thoughts?

Detective Anderson Yan

Yan pulls into Koul-Brau's parking lot, eyeing up the exterior of the building from the driver's seat of the police sedan. "Hope they've got a back entrance we can use. Otherwise getting equipment through those front doors is gonna be a real pain in the ass." Stepping out and locking the car behind him he enters through the front door and makes for the receptionist's desk, getting his badge out of his pocket beforehand. "Morning. Detective Anderson Yan, GCPD I-Crimes. I understand a few of my associates are already here. Mind directing to your server room?"
