HISTORY

Born to Suma mobsters, Desirae had always lived in a world of violence and crime, a lifestyle which did her little favors given she was born parapalegic. The parapalegia Desirae was born with originated within the brain rather than the spine or the legs, so chroming up would have done little for her. A disability is often times seen as both a major and dangerous condition to have when one lives a life surrounded by organized crime, but her parents knew better than to simply write their daughter off over her physical condition. Instead they invested heavily into their daughter's education, ensuring that what she lacked for in physical prowess she made up for in intelligence and her interest in archery only further encouraged the Roja's to invest in Desirae's extra curricular activities. The cost of a formal college education was above what the Roja family could afford - even with their criminal rackets - but Desirae didn't need a diploma or a degree to commit her crimes for her parents chapter of Night City's Suma. They weren't the biggest, nor were they the loudest, but the Roja's crime ring brought in consistant and ''clean'' money for the Suma family. If one family needed money laundered? They went to the Rojas, though more specifically, they went to Desirae Roja.

 

Thanks in part to her growing name among the Kingpins within the Suma families of Night City, Desirae's safety became a growing concern for her parents, even with her archery training and handiness with a pistol, Desirae's parents both decided to take an extra step to try and ensure their daughter's safety: They hired a body guard. More specifically, they hired Malikah Miri. The work was relatively boring for a bodyguard and Desirae made no attempt to obfuscate such a fact, most of her days were spent reviewing records, handling paperwork or crunching (fictitious) numbers in a variety of Suma-owned fronts in Night City. The two became friendly quickly and Desirae came to value Malikah's opinions and presence, so much so that while in attendance of a 'family gathering' for the N.C Suma families, Desirae and Malikah had shared a kiss after a few glasses of wine and a slightly tearful coming out to Malikah.

 

Desirae's capabilities to help her criminal organization became apparent to some of the larger sharks in the N.C Suma, one of whom being the man who brought her parents to Night City. This man's name was Gael Bahiense, a crimelord whose family once hailed from Brazil. Gael saw the potential in Desirae's operational skills just as her parents did and took her under his wing, even helping her obtain a secture conapt to call her home. Life was looking to be bright for the heiress, though this bright outlook didn't last for long after her parents were killed by the NCPD. Desirae's uncle twice-removed had been a mole in the NCPD for her parents, feeding them information when necessary or whenever it pertained to their or Desirae's operations. That was until someone made him a better offer. The estranged relative had intended for Desirae to be caught up in the "crossfire" that killed her parents, but due to falling ill she never attended the meet. Gael continued to treat Desirae as his own, as the protegé her parents had raised to be and Malikah... Well. There was a grieving period, but the two became closer than ever through it all. Even though the paychecks stopped arriving, Malikah continued to offer her services as a body guard. Desirae didn't hesitate to offer Malikah a key to the conapt and her choice of which bedroom to stay. Needless to say, Desirae had lost a lot in the past year, but she'd gained just as much.

After Desirae's parents died she and Malikah began to grow closer together, their relationship slowly transfiguring from a professional one to a one of personal. This caused problems for Kodama Amaya - who at the time was trying to court Malikah for himself. The man is of Japanese descent, often praising his long family lineage of working in the media, dating all the way back to the second world war where his descendants were involved in printing propaganda. Kodama Amaya regularly attempted to woo Malikah with offers of financial and material benefits, often times even turning his nose up at Desirae whenever they shared a room. After Malikah and Desirae formally became a couple, the over-zealous media has been on the heels of Desirae's work, attempting to trip her up every stip of the way with bad press.
