Character Death

Death in Delos just as in any fantasy RPG is not final. Spells like: Raise Dead, Resurrection, True Resurrection, Etc, still exist.

Death however takes its toll. Dying is a bad thing and there are costs to it. The risk of Constitution drain and negative levels has been removed. However characters that die will always risk the possibility of not coming back "whole." Leoris is a very forgiving God but the circle of life may only be broken so often. For those that have characters die and are rezzed they may suffer thing636364325235118776.pngs as minor as memory gaps, to more severe as mental disorders or phobias, to the extreme of not coming back "alone" as some other otherworldy creature comes along for the ride or cursed in some strange supernatural way. Also as a character dies the bounds of the afterlife begin to take hold of his/her soul.

After a character is brought back the first time, every additional return from death has a increased 15% chance of failure. So if Billy the party rogue has died 3 times now, to rez him the third time there is a 30% chance of the spell failing, and his soul remaining locked in the land of the dead. Also if the spell fails and there is another attempt to rez him yet again, the additional 15% for every rez still applies. So the failure chance would now become 45%. This may increase until the failure chance reaches 100% and the character may not return to the land of the living.

The only way to restore someone to life that has reached the 100% mark is to travel to the land of the dead, and recover the person's soul directly. However there are no known records of anyone having attempted to travel to the land of the dead and returned themselves.
