Quim looked down at the what remained of his weapon. It wasn't much more than wooden handle with some shards sticking out the other end and was more likely to get him cut than an enemy now. In a mix of disgust and panic Quim threw the thing away and scrambled to find something suitable to keep the approaching enemies at bay. He hadn't the time now to ponder his hurried decision nor that better scouting would have told him there was more to this lakeside cavern than just the cage and firepit.

He grunted and growled in frustration, dropping to his knee and grabbing the first thing he could find. The skum's pronged spear looked more like a farming tool than a weapon, but he'd seen how the one up top had wielded it. He could pin and poke, he assumed.

"Here they come!" He spewed as he spun the trident in anticipation, trying to understand the weight in it.

~ Month 2, Day 9: Afternoon ~

Battle Map

image.png.f4db010a45f9b358cbab714be122bb21.png

Vannan stepped foward until he was standing between Quim and Byran. Raising his large sword high above his head, he let out a guttural yell as he used every bit of strength he could muster to bring it down on the nearby skum. It sliced through the frog man, nearly cutting his from shoulder to hip. The creature was still standing after the blow, but barely.

With so many of the skum suddenly appearing, as if out of nowhere, Nancy isn't sure what to do. Her ability to affect the terrain seems to be slowing them down a bit, but she knows it won't last long.

Still not really sure what she's doing, she begins another chant almost by instinct, not even sure where the words are coming from. Focusing as best she can, she tries to channel her power outwards, instilling fear and hesitance in as many of the skum as possible.

Actions

Move Action: Move down to N6.

Standard Action: Use Inspired Spell to cast Bane (for 1 MP). It should hit all the skum aside from the ones right at the bottom. DC is 15, and it lasts 4 whole minutes if that matters. (Feels a bit weak, but it's one of the only AoOs available)

The Unearthly Terrain should last one more round.

As she had expected, and waited for, so it had come to pass. It was time then, for nature to reclaim what belonged to it. The odds, as they had often been against them remained, but this was the inexorable path forward. Ingrid took knee, hefting a handful of small powdery seeds from a pouch at her hip and slapped them to the stone heavily. A pulse of green light underfoot, and then undulating thorny growths ripped up from the cavern floor, grasping hungrily.

(Ingrid casts Divine Recall Mythic Entangle on Square K16, it is a 40' radius effect so should stop just short of our front line. Enemies roll a DC 13 Reflex Save at disadvantage and are entangled on fail. They take a d6 Magical Piercing each turn.)

Draco swings his head around to examine the area. Water on one side, an army on the other. At least Ingrid seems to have done something as the world around the creatures seems to roil, so he steps a bit closer to the cage to examines it and see if he could, maybe magic it open? Do they need a key? He spots the Skum in the back, then curses. He then gets himself ready.

~ Month 2, Day 9: Afternoon ~

Battle Map

Byran.png.46a5e29a685cc1c426f5d9e44015c0ca.pngNancy's magic bursts from her body and radiates outward until it passes through most of the skum. Many seem to recoil briefly from the magic as it washes over them.

Ingrid's plants burst through the rocky ground, seemingly out of place but also completely relentless in their spontaneous growth. Soon the entire area is covered in heavy foliage. Many of the skum find themselves grappling with the plants as they wrap around their limbs and torso.

Draco's blade stays ready, waiting for any skum that may draw near as he protects the group's flank.

Byran keeps his horned shield up, moving effortlessly and attacking with it as if it was an extension of his body. He stabbed the horns into the skull of the entangled skum in front of him, and the creature went limp even as the vines and plants slowed its fall to the ground.

Things are developing rapidly. Her allies are making much more overt acts of magic all of a sudden, changing the battlefield to their advantage. She files this information away for the next time they will need to defend a position, then snaps attention back to the present.

She steps up to the edge of the field of thrashing thorns, staying out of their grip, in order to better protect Nancy and Ingrid. She readies herself to meet the attack she knows is coming.

OOC

Coals 5-foot steps to N7 and readies an action to attack the next skum that comes into range. She will use Sudden Block to protect the first adjacent ally who gets attacked.

Worg - Baldur's Gate 3 Wiki

Worg

The bloodlust of the worg is instinctual and well known in the company of those who deal with the beasts regularly. Even as a pup, they gnash their teeth and claw at threats and prey alike.

Now standing between threat and Master, the worg's hackles raised and he prepared to bite at the closest skum.

~ Skum Cave ~

~ Month 2, Day 9: Afternoon ~

Battle Map

Worg manages to catch one of the skum's thighs who had been wrapped up in Ingrid's vines. The bite left a trails of bloody holes where it's teeth penetrated its fishy flesh.

The skum do their best to contend with the vines and plants trying to wrap around them. Many wounds are suffered as the thorns prick at the skums' skin and flesh. They fight and claw to rip themselves free as they try to advance on the party.

The skum approaching Draco from the party's flank catches him with its trident, ripping into his arm.

DM: Draco

Draco takes 3 damage.

One pushes through the overgrowth to free itself and then takes a swing at Byran, who easily dodges the blow. A few more skum are able to pull themselves free of the vines, and one manages to escape the affected area. He hustles around the cage to help his companion facing Draco. The few others who are able to move through the thorny vines have to use all of their energy to try and get away from the magic growth, but they are able to harry the party and put themselves in positions to engage.

In the distance, the trio of skum at the rear escape the area and move away from the party and out of sight.

spacer.pngspacer.png

"Come 'ere ya' filthy fish!" the duergar calls as he reaches through the cell bars to grab at the nearby skum, the same who hit Draco only seconds earlier. He manages to get a hold of the skum's arm, but not before the creatures slashes at him and cuts into his pale skin. But the duergar is able to hold on and pull the frog-man into the cage. The tielfling reaches out to assist, taking a hold of the skum's arm as much as he can.

"Hold on, don't let him go," the tiefling says, trying to help.

"Tell me sumthin' I don't know!" the grey dwarf calls back annoyed.

The trident isn't ideal, but it's simplicity is enough for Quim to manage. Three of the skum come up on his left side through the muck and tangling vines and Quim doesn't venture waiting for them to get comfortable. He thrusts out with the dangerous end, intent on skewer now and worrying about being stuck later.

Battle Map

image.png.f4db010a45f9b358cbab714be122bb21.pngDespite Quim's best efforts, his thrust is awkward and the skum in front of him easily dodges it. He can't help but notice this particular skum's trident seems of higher quality than the others his kin carry, and he has a series of four humanoid-sized skulls strung together around his waist.

Vannan raises his large, curved falchion over his shoulder, and literally cleaves one of the skum in two as he brings the sword down across the frog-man's chest and separates it's arm and shoulder from it's torso.

Draco attempts to stab the Skum that approaches him, but manages to miss it. Instead, he got a gash in his non-dominant arm as a result and he gives a cruse in Draconic. He winces, slitted eyes glaring out in the firelight as he attempts to stab it again. He posts the second and scowls. "Two back here!" At least they didn't need to worry about volume anymore.

With the spell holding vivid in her mind, and the enemy line now crashing upon them, Ingrid seemed satisfied. Turning towards the Skum surrounding Draco, she hunkered behind her shield and bellowed before falling upon the nearer of the two creatures. (Charging K4)

Ingrid charges the other skum adjacent to Draco, but it blocks her advance with it's trident.

Nancy tried to harness the same cursing power that she had earlier in the day during the fight with the skum on the surface. As she focuses on the nasty looking skum with the skulls around his waist, she reaches out with her magic and feels herself jinxing his aura.

DM

Nancy cast ill omen on the skum at O8.

Byran keeps his defenses up as he tries to strike the skum in front of him with his horned shield, but he misses.

DM: Coalscuttle

Retro Edit: Coalscuttle's readied attack from last round hit for 6 damage to the Skum at N8 (who looks like the leader of this group).
