Worg

With his own pack just behind him, the worg was relentless with his snaps and snarls. When one of the skum got too close, he pounced forward a few feet to try and take hold of the things leg.

~ Skum Cave ~

~ Month 2, Day 9: Afternoon ~

Battle Map

image.png.7ee63db5bf5c4a46c91957444cd47f6a.png

The worg catches the nearby skum and takes a small chunk out of it's calf, which causes the skum to grit it's sharp, jagged teeth as it stifles a cry of pain.

The skum being held against the cage by the duergar and tiefling struggles to escape. He drops his weapon to use both clawed hands for the task, but is still unable to break free.  Others fighting against Ingrid's magic vines fair similarly well in that they also aren't able to break themselves free of their constraints.

Those of the frog men who are not held by someone or something, however, engage in a counter-attack of tridents, claws and teeth; a veritable barrage of sharpness. Ingrid catches a claw across her shoulder, while Byran is unable to dodge any of the attacks leveled at him and suffers though multiple strikes and wounds. Coalscuttle, meanwhile, lets her budding warrior instincts take over. She dodged, ducks and blocks, and the few strikes that manage to get past her first few lines of defense are blunted enough by her strong armor. In all, she is able to repel all of the attacks of two of the skum, including the particularly menacing looking one standing in front of her.

DM: Ingrid

She takes 4 damage from a skum claw.

The worg's success presses Quim to mirror it. This time though, he kept the three-pronged weapon in close until the last moment before flashing it out at his target. He hoped that it would make it far harder to block.

image.png.f4db010a45f9b358cbab714be122bb21.pngQuim's shift in styles bears fruit, and he manages to punch the tip of the trident through the skum's upper arm.

Vannan turns away from the sea of vines and charges towards Ingrid and the skum in front of her. He brings his blade down, but misses the frog man completely as he blades slams into the ground.

Whatever Nancy did, it doesn't seem to have had that much impact. Continuing to act on instinct more than anything, she begins another chant. Though noticeably different, the dark, infernal words are just as unsettling to hear, as Nancy points at a nearby Skum and attempts to exert her will upon it.

Actions

Spend 1 Mythic Power to cast Murderous Command (DC 15) on a nearby Skum, probably O8 but whatever's left alive really.

Nancy's difficult terrain should be gone by now I think.

Battle Map

Byran.png.46a5e29a685cc1c426f5d9e44015c0ca.png

As the caged fellows continue to hold one of the skum against the cage, Draco stabs at the other with his rapier and pierces its abdomen. Dark, almost black blood spills out and runs down it's stomach and legs.

Ingrid swings her mace at the same skum, caving in one of it's knees momentarily. The frog-man fight to stay on his feet, but its clear he only has a little fight left in him.

As Nancy finishes her spell, the skum in her sights' eyes seem to glaze over and his gaze slowly turns to his nearest companion...

Byran reaches down to grab a handful of dirt, then throws it in the face of the skum adjacent to him. The skum is quick enough to bring up it's hand to block the attempts, but Byran follows up with a strike from his horned shield.

The skum, or at least this one, are proving to be difficult opponents, but her efforts do seem to be keeping her friends safe.

Just keep doing what you're doing, she tells herself as she dodges and weaves and ducks under her opponents' tridents, don't second guess yourself. That comes later.

Letting herself slip into the rhythm of the battle, she strikes out at the creatures before her, hoping that things will be resolved quickly.

OOC

Coals attacks the skum at N8 again. If that skum is down, she'll attack the one at O8.

~ Skum Cave ~

~ Month 2, Day 9: Afternoon ~

Battle Map

Worg and Coal's strikes combine on the same skum and leave him bloody and reeling, though still in the fight.

Near the cage, the skum being grappled by the prisoners manages to free himself. He seems to intentionally falls backwards, and appears to completely disappear into the dark as he falls into the water. The remaining skum in that area takes a step towards the cage with his own eye on the water, and he lets out a series of strikes aimed at Draco...none hit their mark.

Byran continues to spar with one of the skum, and the creature manages to land another attack on the mercenary. He looks worse for the wear, and is having trouble staying on his feet as his injuries continue to mount. He sways uncontrollably as his balance is wavering.

The two skum still stuck by Ingrid's vines manage to free themselves and rush towards the edge of the overgrowth, and one manages to escape the area completely.

The apparent battle leader strikes at Worg, though Nancy's magic still seems to be costing it some of it's combat effectiveness. The first two strikes miss, though the third is a scaled claw that rakes across the beasts body.

DM: Worg

Don't know Worg's stats off-hand, but I'm assuming a 15 is a hit (let me know if that's incorrect). 2 damage to Worg.

The skum nearby, still under the effects of Nancy's mind control, punches it's trident out and catches the leader in the back. As the leader spins around, the magic is already wearing off, and the traitorous skum raises it's webbed hands apologetically as it points at the party.

The duergar reaches through the bars again and tries to grab a hold of the nearby skum, though this one manages to keep himself free of the dark dwarf's grasp. The tielfing makes a similar attempt, though has just as little luck.

Although there was nothing at his back, Quim felt pressed now. The skum raked its claw across the flank of the worg and would likely do so again if they weren't able to stop it. He saw no other option now, he had to continue until one side had been removed from the battlefield.

The worg snarled its painful displeasure in being cut by the claws of the skum. He twisted his body to try and keep that wound from being available to the enemy again, but he did not pause his own attacks.

Draco turns to the other remaining Skum and attempts to stab this one as well, hoping that taking it down, he can help out those on the forward flank sooner rather than later. He gives a glance at the waters, just encase the one that dived in comes out from the water.

Both Quim and his worg manage to land their strikes, with Quim's trident catching the skum in his shoulder and the worg ripping a piece out of his inner thigh. The skum manages to keep his footing and wits, but it's sluggish movements indicate its body is near failing.

Draco's rapier pierces deeply into the skum's torso, and as Draco pulls the weapon back out the frog-man drops to the ground.

Vannan turns back towards the larger skirmish line and moves to support Byran, who is looking worse with every strike landed against him. He turns his attention to the skum still contending with Ingrid's vines and cuts the bowels of the creature open, and it's entrails spill out as it falls.

"Ghaxrah ak t'kal!", Nancy exclaims, seeing that the skum seem to be on their last legs. She tries to find a gap in the melee in front of her, then looses a crossbow bolt at the skum furthest away from her allies.

Actions

Crossbow attack - if I attack the skum at O9, I shouldn't get a penalty for shooting into melee? He will still get +4 from soft cover, though.

Then reload. I've lost track of how many bolts I've used honestly, but it's at least two.
