I looked up the occupations, but apprentice isn't on there, so I don't know what weapon he'll be automatically trained with. (I know it doesn't matter until level 1.) Alphonse would be an apprentice in some kind of trade, you should pick what trade that is. He's a young man, about sixteen years old. I like the part where playtesting saw deaths skyrocket XD The narrative makes sense his mother would have made him learn the business, and thus apprentice as a jeweler. But he's young and rebellious and may very well have gotten more learning done under some off-time lessons in something else. I'll chew on it overnight. Some guy that passes through town every few months that has a layover in our village for about a week. He took pity on Alphonse and started teaching him to use a sword.
