 Barrett the Hardholder

"Welcome to Gateway, we have whatever your heart desires, you only need to ask."

Description and Personality

6799fd51ce390650d86cbd444a3fdf0e.jpg.29e50f537ccca9e2984e6ffcba6e2bcc.jpgBarret has a massive body, but with a soft face and cool eyes. Normal wear is work wear.

Barret was born in a hold that instead giving names, instead give people numbers. To this day Barret still has a tattoo of of his number "3-1-7" on his left wrist. He left the hold as soon as he was old enough, and began working any odd job he could find. He quickly found that the world was a violent place, and that he was a master of violence.

He became a renowned as a merc, and amassed a small crew of cut throats loyal to him. After one particularly dangerous job of clearing out an airport of the eldritch horrors that had gathered there, he suddenly decided he was done with traveling, done with being a merc and was going to set up shop in the very airport that they had just cleaned up. Their client wasn't happy about his decision, but that was a problem easily fixed with a bullet.

In the intervening years through hard work and selective use of force, he and his gang have managed to turn Gateway into a thriving trade hub, drawing in people from all over.

History

Clutch - Hx+2 "Knew of Clutch before I settled down, he and I were always going for the same jobs, always trying to push each other further and to be better than the day before. Without him I don't think I would be half the murk I was. It's good he's back in town, might shake some of the rust off me."

Kitty - Hx+3 "Despite the sweet demeanor the first time meeting Kitty was almost a blood bath. Heh. She got caught with her hands all over Gateway supplies, dumb move, people who do that usually end up dead. I saw the potential in this one, and Judge still hates the decision to this day."

Dolly - Hx-2 "Dolly is a weird one, on one hand my instincts scream that she is a danger, but on the other hand she is merely a kid stuck in this rotten world. Also her friendship with Kitty proves that their is some humanity left in her. Though, if she ever becomes a danger to Gateway, I'll have no qualms about sending her packing."

Moves

Leadershipwhen you have to order your gang to advance, regroup, hold position, hold discipline, or put their damn backs into it, roll+hard. On a hit, they do it. On a 10+, they snap to; take +1forward. On a miss, they do it, but you’ll hear about it later.

WealthIf your hold is secure and your rule unchallenged, at the beginning of the session, roll+hard. On a 10+, you have surplus at hand and available for the needs of the session. On a 7–9, you have surplus, but choose 1 want. On a miss, or if your hold is compromised or your rule contested, your hold is in want. The precise values of your surplus and want depend on your holding, as follows.

Gateway

th.jpg.566aa222667d07ca028c882a0c0b2e82.jpg Gateway, true to it's name is an old airport, and two planes currently sit there; one is broken and is unfit for habitation sitting at Gate D, the other is a fully together plane that sits at terminal B, but Barret has claimed it has his own personal residence. For the rest of the 360 souls that live in Gateway they are allowed to set up where ever they want in the other terminals so long as they leave the main way clear, leading to a rather confusing layout to anyone not familiar with the habitable area of Gateway. The market place sits out in the open air between terminals B and C, with a fence that surrounds it, and the only way through is by going through the security checkpoint on the lower level. The upper level over looks market and is staffed by some of the gang keeping an eye out for any disturbances in the market, and keeping an eye on the horizon to watch out for threats.

The Gang

The big boss is Barret himself. His word is law in Gateway. Below him sits the "Jackets",Alaska which includes Alaska, his right hand woman and second in command of the hold. Her word is only superseded by Barret's, and he can count the number of times he's had to override her orders on one hand. She has been with Barret since his merc days. They have an on again of again relationship, it's clear that they care about each other a lot but neither one of them is willing to open up and take that vulnerable step. Next is Judge, the local lawman. His sole job in the hold is to maintain order. If two parties can't solve a disagreement between themselves Judge gets called and lays the law down. Judge was on the of the first arrivals to Gateway, even before it had an official name. He worked his way up through the ranks of the gang by proving himself to have a good head on his shoulders and a firm moral compass. Finally there is [Blank] who oversees the day to day running, and assignments of the squads.

Reds are the bottom of the totem pole and make up the majority of the gang. If a gang member is new to the crew they are forced to wear only red until they complete their training. Blues are next and there are only ten of them. Each one is in charge of a squad of reds. Finally there are the greens, of which there are 7, five of them over see two blues and their squads, while one green oversees the armory, and the last one is in charge of the garage and keeping the few vehicles the hold has up in working order. The gang is well trained for a gang, those that act out are either quickly corrected by their fellow members or find themselves not long for the hold as the Jackets are not the forgiving type.

Okay a couple things: One are you cool if I pick up the rifle from the Gun-lugger play book? I would like Barret to have a long arm like in the picture. Secondly, their isn't actually someone named [Blank], I wanted to leave a spot open that way if someone wanted to fill that role there would be space for them. If no one decides they want to I can come up with someone. Thirdly and finally, the map for Gateway does say LaGuardia, but I'm not implying we should be set in NYC, I liked the map and it got the creative muscles working. But if people want to be in the remnants of NYC, that's fine with me too.

No problem with the rifle, you do get some 'a few pieces of non specialized gear', so I think what you have is fair. Just remember the vest doesn't protect your legs!

During HX we will see how you all know each other, so leaving blanks in your gang is a great idea!

We can do NYC-ish, like a coastal type area. Fits the fish-man vibes anyway

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay, done with the Hx, highlighted the stat you picked (Just waiting on the other to be highlighted), added the rifle to my gear, and added Alaska's name. I had it picked out when I originally wrote the entry, but guess I never actually put it down.

So barring any issues I should be good to go.
