Dae, in full retreat, halted. She turned to stare at Mags. If anyone else had said it... if anyone else had said that they can't run, she would be off, running to preserve any extra second she had to cling to this mortal existence.
 
But... he'd given her the pastry pie. She glanced down and saw it. She was still holding it, caging its soft sweetness in stiff fingers to preserve it for a taste. Just one bite, that's all she wanted. She looked up, trying to catch his eye with hers.
 
"If we can't run, we must stand and endure the darkness. If we want to see the light again, we must endure."
