Cold Comfort (IC)

Grendel

Recommended Posts

With everybody pushing the door finally gives. It is hard to tell whether the hinges were seized or there was some sort of bolt holding it in place, but it pushes in slowly with some grinding. Inside the place it seems to be completely dark, the only light what little bit of moonlight or starlight can filter in through the open door. Tok, with his superior night vision can see there is a chamber inside and a large, looming object in the center.

Not wanting to anger the Yazirian and because he wanted to see what the heck stuff was in this room that they had discovered that had not been opened since the dawn of time and the very first beings... maybe even before the first beings even... even. Gloob, uses his 'back arm' to reach into his backpack and pull out the flashlight from the survival gear they acquired. He plods up into the center of the room... mostly flashing the flashlight onto the walls looking for more glyphs, and not necessarily dangers in front of him. "Gloob to the rescue!" he says.

Giving Tok a knowing look and mischievous grin, Kayla replied, "Oh, yes, definitely to the rescue. Whatever would we do without you, Gloob?"

Pulling out her own flashlight, Kayla shined it around the rest of the area to see what the room looked like and if there was a nice place to set up camp. She also took a moment to look at the back of the huge doors to see if there had, in fact, been something behind them.

The center of the chamber is dominated by a statue of some kind - or 'modern' abstract art. It is a collection of cubes about four meters tall that looks almost like some natural crystal. (Think a pile of bismuth metal crystals) The rest of the chamber, which measure 10 meters on a side and is five meters high, is covered in etched geometric lines, forming patterns like a giant maze covering all of the walls.

Doc pulls out a flashlight and turns it on shining it on the large object in the middle and if it isn't dangerous he will shine it around the rest of the room. Once he realizes that there is no danger he turns and closes the door to help keep out the cold winds. He then looks to see fi there are other ways out of this room.

"Oh, yes, definitely to the rescue. Whatever would we do without you, Gloob?"

Completely missing the sarcasm or his own ridiculousness, Gloob replies, "Let's hope we don't have to find out!" Then the Dralasite begins to inspect the geometric 'maze' thinking perhaps there was some hidden message foretelling of an ambush at this vary spot, at this vary moment.

Kayla sighed and replied, "Let's hope."

She shined her light across the sculpture as well as the walls, taking in its strange beauty. It was unfortunate she was dense, as its meaning likely escaped her. Kayla continued to look for a place that would serve best for setting up camp.

Dr. K makes a strange noise and shakes his head side to side as Tok complains.

I am just trying to make sure there are no surprises in here and the place is safe before we try to get some sleep.

Once he is as certain as he can be that there are no hidden doors or other way for something to sneak up on them, he starts pulling things out of his pack. He takes one of his all weather blankets and puts it on the ground and then sits on top of it. He finishes off the daily ration he has been nibbling on all day. Then he pulls the other all-weather blanket he has over the top of him. After a while of trying o find a comfortable position for his head he reaches in again and pulls out one of the life vests. Pull on the tab to inflate it he then uses that as a pillow.

As comfortable as he can get, he closes his eyes and tries to get some sleep.

Dr. K, Kayla and Gloob don't find anything of note, though the patterns cut or etched into the walls could still be hiding much. Tired after a long day of hiking, the fugitives prepare a make-shift camp inside the structure with the survival gear at hand and bed down for the night.

@JagrHunter, I don't see an INT roll for you old friend. So far the die roller has been murderous on this group...

"I have founD the focalized remains of the rare Narubian Dust Mite! This is an incredible discovery!"

When no one responds, or even pays attention to his discovery, he continues pontificating and muttering to himself.

"It does make one wonder how such a creature made it to this planet, though. They were extinct thousands of years before interstellar flight. Unless... unless... UNLESS they could make interstellar journeys on their own! But that begs the even bigger question of why they've never been found on other planets until now?"

Realizing that no one else seems to care and seeing them bedding down for the night, Gloob decides that they must all be too tired to care and perhaps he was very tired too but didn't realize it yet. The Dralasite begins making his own 'camp' for the night. He would show his find to his beloved friends in the morning after they've had a good night's rest and could appreciate the magnitude of his discovery, sure that they will shower him with accolades and financial rewards.

In the morning, Gloob wakes and has completely forgotten about Narubians and Mites altogether. He is still a little concerned with dust, however, as he'd rolled over from his rack and slept face down in the sand and dirt and many particles have pressed into his malleable epidermis. He focuses on 'pushing' his skin 'outward' so that the particles pop out. He looks around and wonders just where the heck he is.
