Background

In his youth, Resourceful Jack might have been known for being a purveyor of black bean juice or spiced lemon wine. Raising a child in Nywiko has its challenges, the crowds, the cost, the smells, the traffic, the weather, which led to Jack spending his time off Mazphsir in farms on Mercilia. While he doesn't have a green thumb, he doesn't have a black one either, and it is in cooking that he finds his ardor. It's a great family bonding activity, it's science adjacent, and you can eat your successes and failures.

He also found out that he had a knack for shadow magic. In the beginning, it was neat tricks like picking up stuff from high shelves and far-flung corners. But as he progressed to its more advanced techniques, restrictions, bindings, puppeteering, he didn't like the stuffy stuff that came with it. He had a snooty image even when what fills his mind is eating fairy floss and figuring out vinegar. People assumed he followed rigorous customs when he can't even dress himself. He felt like people no longer sees him for who he is.

But then one day, [Glorious Purpose].

it might have something to do about being born on Magical Tax Day's Eve. Maybe not.

Personality

Jack is rarely serious, always keeping an eye out for possible rule-breaking and tomfoolery. His voice is meek and his delivery breathy. He usually slinks on the sidelines, paying attention to anything but the goal or their reason for being there.

Unlike his "born great" colleagues, he has little motivation at the present and is content to be an average little guy. A lazy cheeky ass, he is still an upstanding citizen who will put his life on the line any day of the week. There are some fluctuations in how exemplary he is, yet he fights for the good of the people. Even though, by his own testimony, he lacks bravery, he will sacrifice himself and face almost certain death, for the sake of his friends and family without a second thought.

After learning about his fortune, he is secretly afraid that he is not as brilliant as the bones predicted, and hence refuse to exert himself for fear he'll be exposed. He is unaware he is falling into the trap of Laborious Laziness, clueless that his smarts and his desire to avoid doing work are, in fact, making him work harder at being lazy than he would be working if he just did what he were supposed to.

Halfling and Human

Ancestral Traits

Age. Pick two of your ancestries from the available options. Select a number in between the two ages listed for when people of those ancestries come of age, and again between the numbers listed for their average lifespans. Write these down; these are your age at which you became an adult and your expected lifespan.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet, unless both of your chosen ancestries have a base speed of 25 feet, or your size is Small, in which case your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Additional Ancestral Traits. You may select up to two (2) other ancestral traits from your two chosen ancestries. For example, you might select Fey Ancestry from an elven ancestor, or Hellish Resistance from a tiefling ancestor.

Lucky. When you roll a 1 on an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll.
Brave. You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Cultural Traits

Ability Score Increase. One ability score of your choice increases by 2, and another ability score of your choice increases by 1. Base these off of your chosen races.

Proficiencies. You gain proficiency in two skills from your chosen races.

Languages and Tools. You can speak and understand Common and one extra language that might be spoken in your community. You have proficiency with one tool of your choice and learn to read and write your two chosen languages if you were taught.
