Following as straight of a line as they can through the night with Shiro and Eizan leading and Oda sniffing along to find any scent that lingered from those that had gone missing before. Two hours of walking later the forest opens up into a small clearing. In the center of the clearing stands a large stone golem with several crystals adorning it's head, almost like a crown. The golem remains motionless until it catches sight of the party. It's head lifts and strange eyes glare down at you all for a moment. Slowly it turns from the party and removes a ring from it's finger. Placing it onto the ground the ring stays perfectly balanced on it's edge and within a couple of seconds it grows to the size of a large round door. The inside of the ring shimmers a moment before a new sight shows itself. A larger clearing near the base of a huge mountain that a keep has been built out from and carved into. The rocky cliff face above stretching on and towering over the massive stone towers. Upon the wall of the keep the party can make out several lights moving one way or another, nightly guard patrols. While similar lights are visible moving along newly planted farm land. Besides the keep, it's protective wall, and the mountain, the farm land has been sectioned off with several houses in various degrees of being built. The golem stands aside form the doorway and waits patiently. It's body and features unmoving as it just watches the party. (Anyone with knowledge arcana, or psionics would know this kind of golem is a simple servant type, not meant for fighting, it performs a set number of tasks, and the crown on it's head is an amplifier that will extend the range of some psionic powers.) Could it be that the villagers that came this direction are safe, and was it the golem that called them. He hopes the landscape can tell him if it's some place he's seen or read about. Finally Fredrick takes a few steps closer to the golem, "Do you speak?" "And did you call us here?" he asks. At least it really does look like villagers that came this way appear to be more or less safe." "I recall reading somewhere that there was an old keep in this area back during the time of the breaking, so maybe the mind flayers have restored it since, but if it's controlled by them now, I cannot say." "Since it doesn't seem to be any present danger, would you rather investigate the other direction? Or proceed through the portal." he asks. As he continues to stare through the portal, "Imagine if it were a portal to an older time? However unlikely." he says quietly. KoboldDM Posted June 25, 2023 Author Clone Share Posted June 25, 2023 The other members of the party all walk through the portal, having just a couple of seconds to take int he surroundings around them. Large swaths of farm land, grazing land that livestock has been placed into. The valley they step into is huge and been made larger with the lumber collected and worked to make houses. There is no portal leading back as this was a one way portal. The portal was positioned perfectly so the two guards on either side of the stone circle that makes up this sides base were unable to be seen. Each one wearing black armor, carrying large black metal shields, and spears who's tips are black as well, barely catching the moonlight. Ishino gives his answer and places his hand on his Katana. There is 10 feet between the party and either of the guards. Both guards upon hearing his answer quickly turn from him. Fleeing in opposite directions. They shift their spears to their shield hand and take out a horn. Bring it to their lips and sound an alert. Each guard stops and continues to sound the alarm 40 ft from the party in either direction.
