Description

Gunhilda is slightly taller than the average dwarf at 3' 9" with a stout, stocky, but also solid and muscular, build weighing around 175 pounds. Her face is rather pretty with pale, flawless skin, deep blue eyes and a slightly upturned nose. It is framed by curly red locks and a matching beard that she keeps well oiled and groomed, tied up in braids adorned with gold wire and clasps. She wears brigandine armor with heavy mountain boots and a dark grey cloak. She carries a shield with the rune of the Ancestor Gods on it and wields her family's ancestral battle axe which she was (reluctantly) given after completing her training and taking her final vows.

History

Gunhilda hails from the dwarf city of Kirn Todur in the Shield Mountains. She was the only daughter of a relatively wealthy and influential family. She received a noble's education but was promised to the cult of the Ancestor Gods in payment of a family oath despite the fact that she really wished to be a warrior. When she was very young the dwarfs delved too deep and opened up a chasm that held a gateway to the Void. Ever afterwards the city was plagued by demons and eventually had to be abandoned. Gunhilda's family, along with a number of others, sought refuge in the Freehold of Nar where they didn't make too many friends insofar as they were of the opinion that they ought to have a larger say in how things were done given that the community was based in an old dwarven fortress.

In Nar, Gunhilda met and fell in love with a Dwarf smith of much poorer means named Bardin. Being young and impulsive and already somewhat embittered by having her dreams of martial glory denied, she ran off with Bardin and they eventually settled in the town of Esker where Bardin found work with Tobias in his blacksmith shop the Nail and Spice.

Not having anything to do herself and feeling isolated, Gunhilda soon began to regret her decision. Bardin didn't help much by revealing a heretofore hidden resentment of her privileged upbringing and berating her sloth. The Ancestors came to her in the form of three mice, Hogni, Gamal and Ospak, who whispered in her dreams and urged her to return, appealing to her sense of honor and duty and the weight of tradition. Eventually she agreed but insisted that she be trained as a warrior-priest rather than a chronicler or keeper of the Ancestor's hall. She hopes to erase some of the shame her past actions have brought upon her family and the Ancestors by doing great deeds, showing the world what a dwarf could be.

Recently she received a letter from Bardin asking to see her and, feeling some guilt about the way things ended between them, Gunhilda has undertaken a journey to Esker to see him.
